I’ve started work on my Krampus Christmas diorama. Everything is now primed. I should finish off my current project on Saturday and then I can begin work on this. The walls will be off-white. I’m thinking VMC Deck tan, but I may switch to more of a cream/ivory when the time comes. The chimney will be a grey stone. The beams will be a rich dark brown. I’m not sure what to do with the roof and ceiling (Not in pic) tiles. I can’t do chess board flooring if the walls are white. I can’t do roof and floor as terracotta. I’m currently defaulting to terracotta roof, and I paint the floor a lighter grey than the chimney, possibly add splashes of Seraphim Sepia to it to suggest iron. Not sure how mdf and a wash will interact though(?), and it seems a little dull. Krampus should cover most of the floor, and I’ll likely add a sprinkling of snow coming through the fresh hole in the roof so that’ll help break it up, so long as it stands out against the grey.
Anyone got any colour choice opinions or advice? I am unfamiliar with the architecture of this period/style.
How do washes react to MDF? Do they just get soaked up and stain badly?

November 19, 2019 at 11:54 pm #1458376Day Three and what is better than a political debate, yes more 1938 A Very British Civil War illustrations. Today what have a chap from the Anglican League’s Kent Militia. These were the first troops to actually fight the Royalist and Government forces at the Battle of Canterbury and beat back the Government chaps.
November 20, 2019 at 12:55 am #1458378@chaosgorka what a wonderful T-rex you’ve painted there. The saliva really makes it. Is that from Bones4? Nice work on the Marvel characters. Especially nice detils on Ultron’s base.
@lawnor really looking forward to seeing where you go with your diorama. My experience has been that MDF soaks up whatever paint you put on it. Stains usually need several coats while I find a nice even coating with two layers of acrylic.
@civilcourage You can’t go wrong with Hasslefree Minis. The female Asterix and Obelix have been haunting my prep area for a couple years now. Glad to see someone painting them.
@laughingboy great job on that corroded metal. Hell of a job for 40 minutes.
@panzerkaput I’m enjoying your paintings.
@madgolem those decals look like they took a lot of patience. Great looking planes.
@piers not surprised that your fantasy work is as polished as your historicals.
I put a little more work into my Hasslefree dwarf.
November 20, 2019 at 11:45 am #1458500November 20, 2019 at 1:37 pm #1458532Day Four of posting something more interesting than the current election and debate and today I bring you more 1938 A Very British Civil War goodies. With King Edward VIII not abdicating over Wallis, the collapse of the Boldwin Government and the King left with no one to run the Government for him, He invited to his friend Baronet Oswald Moseley to form a Government with his British Union of Fascists Party. This didnt go down well with large part of the country, including people loyal to the King but needs must. Moseley loved the challenge and set about raising BUF Militias to defend the country.
