@brianfowler713 I like the space marine upgrade. I understand your distraction and suffer from similar ailments.
@soldado loving that Nightmare force and always like seeing other Kings of War armies in progress.
@doctorether your work is always impressive not surprised you rock the contrast paints. Wonderful chimera.
I’ve put some more time into my dwarf army standard bearer (with Boomstick). Not only did the tough little fellow get more paint but I started work on the banner. Gotta admit that I don’t have a plan, per se, just a couple of ideas. We’ll have to see how it goes.
October 2, 2019 at 11:33 am #1443121@144artist – Thanks for your comments on others work, it is a pleasure to read such feedback. Looking forward to seeing the progression of your dwarf, I think the banner will be a focuspoint of that mini and your outline looks like a good start!
I recently completed twelve Libyan Spearmen from Victrix. I used LBMS transfers and contrast paints in addition to “conventional” paints for these. Again, this reduced the time it took to get these figures done and that makes me quite happy.

October 3, 2019 at 1:55 am #1443378Home converted Watchers in the Dark
The heads are obviously servo skulls and the torch is from an old (huh) Empire Wizard, but I have NO idea what the rest of them are from. All I remember is one had a little shovel or spade where I pinned the torch, both had teeny tiny chibi skulls and they’re REALLY cheap plastic (think Reaper Bones, then think of a knockoff of that found in dollar stores). Don’t remember where I got them either, but I remember thinking they would make good Watchers in the Dark, at least I did up until today when I noticed they’re almost as bloody tall as the flipping Marines (proper Marines, instead of Primaris filth, but you get my point.) I put way too much effort into them while waiting for Stirland mud to dry on some bases and they are officially done.
PS. Here’s a size comparison, just in case you thought I was kidding when I said the blighters were almost as tall as my Marines:
You’d think I would have noticed that earlier.
October 3, 2019 at 7:20 am #1443411Speaking of Space Marines, eight of them are done. I worked on them all day, and I may have trimmed a corner or six, or clogged up some minor details, but they are officially done. And if I may say so, they look a bit better than they used to. There’s a Sergeant, a Captain and a Librarian left, but they’re wearing robes so I didn’t just zap them with metal air spray. Then, it’s just the Ravenwing guys, and the Terminators and the Dark Vengeance set is done. Speaking if the Terminators, just as I was about to prime them my airbrush got clogged, again! This time, I managed to fix it without breaking off my nozzle.
Trying to take photos with my camera sucks. I guess I should go back to using the camera I bought for this sort of thing.
October 3, 2019 at 9:59 pm #1443536October 4, 2019 at 9:38 am #1443581I need some help here. Has anyone already painted the Well of Orboros? I’m about to start painting the water tonight and I don’t know what the pools should look like. I’ve never painted water before so I’m following the studio pictures as my guide, but they have rather helpfully only taken photos from exactly the same angle, which doesn’t show any of the 3 pools. PP usually give 360 rotations, but not for the new Black Anchor range. Google hasn’t been helpful either.
If anyone can share or link some top down pics or pics angled to show the pools of a painted version I’d be very grateful.

October 4, 2019 at 10:17 pm #1443828I decided I needed this guy off my desk as I work on a bigger base, so just battered together a wee stage effect in the meantime.
October 5, 2019 at 12:54 am #1443845A shameless copypasta of my post to another weekend thread.
Basecoat for Recluse, a not-Spiderwoman superheroine, is done. The small details of her costume need to be put in with the face mask and chest. I’ll hold off on the web wings under her arms until I get some of the UV resin in hand and I can make a small silicone mold. A quick side thought of thermoplastic use probably wouldn’t work as there might be some miniscule heat production that would kill the thin detail. Back to paint and thinking the yellow will also be touched up later since the current undercoat is an ivory with the highlighting in straight white. Once done I’ll wash with Casandora Yellow for a strong bright tone.
The base will get some pigment love with the “concrete” dusted to make it more convincing. I’ll do a drybrush of silver over the VMC Oily Steel for highlighting and then touch up with some more pigments to play with color in various patinas. The current steel paint I’ve tried to gove some life to in throwing on some inks. It might be useful or useless in the end as I break the monotone metallic.
As a final detail I want to add some spiderweb to the base in future as well so I’ll likely add that to the order when I put in for the UV resin. The many Spiderman comics that just add web for the hell of it for the spider motif are numerous enough to give me some leeway in that department.
October 5, 2019 at 1:07 am #1443857I’ve just spent the evening on this artillery crew plus leader for Sharp Practice.
Not wonderful sculpts unfortunately but they’ve come out pretty well.
October 5, 2019 at 1:20 pm #1444080I present a Shrewzilla the Shrew-Zerker, Gromley the Mouse Burglar and Katie the Shieldmaiden for Burrows and Badgers. Also the Mouse house in the backgrounds is from Oathsworn. These were so much fun to paint and I love them. More to come.
