Hey all,
it has been quite some time since I posted in this thread… time to get involved again. I’ve been working on the 40k Conquest Magazine. Currently focusing my attention on the Plague forces. Though I’m hoping to catch up with all the minis so far received before my next batch.
July 30, 2019 at 12:16 pm #1419692Hi all,
I finished the magic duo Kling & Schulz (Stoessi’s Heroes; 28mm):D
And a new Opel Blitz (Rubicon Models; 1/56) for my late war winter Germans (Warlord Games; 28mm)
Regards

July 30, 2019 at 7:29 pm #1419828A bit more progress done, now mostly working on the rider. A lot still to do, but its coming along quite nicely I think.
This mini is fun! Sort of reminds me of a character from an old videogame, but I can’t quite place it.

July 31, 2019 at 12:14 am #1419931July 31, 2019 at 1:33 am #1419962And now, the end is near, and now I face, the final currrrttttaaiiin.
It’s been a long time coming, and they’re not actually finished by a long shot, but I’ve finally got to my goal of well over a hundred marines, support and full command for the Death Strike – which means I can get on with other things whilst perhaps, occasionally doing more of these guys more for enjoyment than like feeling like an uphill struggle through a sea of blue armour.
It’s taken about three years to get to this stage, on and off, with two colour schemes, and most were assembled ten years ago for the first Apocalypse release. I’ve plans to rebase on 32mm the ones that need it, and even unify the colour schemes eventually, but hey – no rush now.
I’m fairly proud of the banner for this field command. I’ve cleared the kitchen table to do some full army shots tomorrow too. W00t!
(oh yeah, just to properly annoy me at the very end, my spray varnish decided to start frosting up on these models. If you look closely you’ll see some lumpy bits – a split second of pure hulk like rage crossed my face when I noticed, but became very zen and didn’t launch the whole lot across the garden. Be proud of me.)July 31, 2019 at 3:28 am #1419964Some creatures for Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. Radroaches, Radscorpion, Deathclaw and Feral Ghouls.
July 31, 2019 at 4:28 am #1419965Not painting, per say, but important for documenting it. I have finally set up and tried out my Foldio light box. The whole thing folds flat and is held together by magnets. The lights can be attached to the magnets in several ways. So far, very easy to use and it even holds an entire building. Now to practice more…
July 31, 2019 at 4:29 am #1419966Try the new Vallejo matte spray varnish – it is hands down the best spray varnish I’ve ever used. It goes on kind of disturbingly thick – I’ve actually seen it foam up on a mini if I’m not careful – but it always dries to an even matte finish. I’ve not had any problem with frosting or overspray onto other minis. Great stuff.
July 31, 2019 at 10:30 am #1420046So lets say I wanted to paint a blade made out of fire. Sword shaped. No flames coming off of it. I’ve googled images of flaming swords and typically it starts off white/yellow at the tip, and passes through orange, red and black as you get near the hilt. Seems legit.
But stop and think about the narrative of the piece. The white part is the hottest. Theoretically, if any part was the hottest that would be the “source”, which should be near the hilt, right? The colours should run the other way along the blade? Or it should be more or less equally hot along its length.
Anyone have any opinions? Perhaps you’ve done actual smithing? I’m asking because I am thinking of painting my swords like this for my Khorne in the upcoming hobby weekend.
July 31, 2019 at 10:50 am #1420051@dogma2097 on your frosty bits, try painting on a very thin layer of varnish to see if that helps it defrost. Perhaps try it on an area that isn’t very noticeable first. It has worked for me in the past with Vallejo Polyurethane Gloss Varnish… on one particular model that went frosty, I gave it a second thin coat and thankfully Mr Frosty looked much better.
@lawnor I would paint them whatever way you think looks best given your chosen colour scheme, either way you’ll have some pretty funky/cool looking swords.

July 31, 2019 at 7:53 pm #1420286Tinkering with contrast paints still but this is what can be done in an hour or less.
August 1, 2019 at 12:32 am #1420366@laughingboy, bit bigger than my attempts with contrast paints , tried them on the not forgotten US paras from bootcamp.
Then learning a bit, tried again with the Armoured infantry platoon I brought at Battlefront open day.
