June 9, 2019 at 10:31 am #1402514Morning folks,
As always I’ve really enjoyed looking through the fantastic, inspiring work on here and can finally add I few bits of my own and maybe ask for a bit of advice.
So this is a Bear I have painted up to use in my Barabrian Warlords of Erehwon Warband.
He is by Atlantis minis who’s models I think look amazing.
The Guinnie Pig on the base is from Bad Squido who also make some really cool stuff.
Now my latest WiP is Richard the Third.
This one comes with a bit of a story-
My Girlfriends Auntie works as part of the Archaeology department at Leicester University. This is the same department that had a lot to do with the Exhuming of Richard the Third from the car park in Leicester a few years back.
She was given this model and has recently asked me if I can Paint it.
This is my very early WIP..
Now looking at pictures of how Richard the Thirds armour would have looked I can see that it has an almost Mirror quality to it.
Any suggestions on how I can achieve this effect would be most welcomed 🙂
Picture for reference

June 9, 2019 at 1:47 pm #1402667@thedace a high contrast nmm would do that for you. If you prefer “traditional” metallics, Vallejo do some splendid metallic paints, some water soluble others not. Worth a look.
That bear is terrific btw
June 9, 2019 at 3:43 pm #1402707Popped down my local Warhammer store to try out the contrast paints with my 10 year old. He spent 19 minutes on his…
I spent a little longer, 27 minutes (however this included an inordinate amount of time debating colour choices and trying to find them!)
Overall I’m impressed, although I couldn’t bring myself to ‘one thick coat’ them. I ended up having to reload the brush and pull it around.
The brushes in GW had clearly seen some heavy work. It was incredibly difficult to keep a point on them. Not sure if the composition of the paint affected that.
Another tool in the box though. My real test bed will be my copy of Lost Patrol

June 10, 2019 at 9:56 am #1402893Just a little teaser of what’s about to be finished (not much left to do : seal and water on the base…) with a bad picture. I’ll post something decent when the models are fully finished…
June 10, 2019 at 10:47 am #1402912@thedace I really love that bear miniature. It’s out of stock on their website though. Is it a limited run or recent kickstarter that’s not generally available yet?
@darkvernon excellent warband! brimming with character. I really want a good closeup of the drunk weasel though.
I’ve been working on the Landsknecht-inspired Otter Mercenary from Burrows and Badgers. He’s had a bit of a tidy up and some more highlighting work since I took this photo so apologies for some of the sloppy brush work.
A fun one to paint and a lovely sculpt that I’ve coveted from day one – just not brave enough to take him on until now!
June 10, 2019 at 12:08 pm #1402984I’m ploughing through my kabuki models collection. Not that it is so vast, but models like that tell a lot about changing tastes. I really get a lot of “what was I thinking moments” (like with the guy bellow – his face is cool but armour is all over the place and Santa Clause cloak is… well…).
The mini has a bit of its own history. I bought it back in 2010-ish to act as Daemon Hunter in my Warzone Mishima army (my favourite troop type of that game in all but last editions of the game). Before I’d managed to paint him, I switched to Infinity and in my first army of Haqqislam had no place for that mini. He had his second chance with me starting Yu Jing Army just after they introduced Shikami profile. At that point I built him new base and put magnets in his feet so I could change bases between playable and scenic. Unfortunately official Shikami mini was released soon after and was way cooler (and then the profile was completely denied for me with the Uprising…). So he awaits his chance to finally see battle, to that end I left his converted sachimono mast empty, who knows what colours would he wear in the end.
And as a bonus the same mini on his original albeit not fully painted base.
June 10, 2019 at 12:47 pm #1403021@mellett68 for some reason you can still get the bear via their ogre Kickstarter. I backed it at the time and am on my second late pledge. No bears so far though.
June 10, 2019 at 1:01 pm #1403030@somegeezer thanks for the advice. NMM are a bit above my skill level lol. Like you say a good Vallejo metallic might do the trick, someone has advised a bit of gloss varnish too.
Thanks for the compliments on the bear 🙂 on a great model like this they almost paint themselves 🙂
@somegeezer and @mellett68
The bear was recently on offer at, I think £12 or £14 so may have sold out because of this. Somebody on the Antlantis FB page mentioned they had bought 6 of them!
June 10, 2019 at 1:36 pm #1403046Absolute steal for £12, bit eye-watering at £20 (plus p+p) – I’ll have to keep my eye on them 🙂
