Could it be that Warhammer Total war has something to do with this?
I know it is popular and there is a 3rd one coming. Maybe they think the can lure some of those players in.
November 16, 2019 at 8:28 am #1457415Fuck them.
This offically makes GW massive ass holes.
November 16, 2019 at 8:29 am #1457416lol eloquently put @twodeesick 😉
November 16, 2019 at 8:32 am #1457417I think the licensing revenue they’ve taken in from third party games set in the Old World has contributed to the decision to revisit it.
November 16, 2019 at 8:40 am #1457418Thanks @warzan XD I do try! hahaha but this was a pre coffee coment and I think it’s lucky no one died haha.
To expand on that, anyone buying this crap is very likely to be trapped in an absive relationship because “The love me” *they say as they hide the bruises*
I can’t get my head arond anyone who still panders to GW after their long history of trashing game support and IPs for quick bucks and showing a complete contempt for their loyal customers. Yes there are good ‘people’ who woork there but the overall company is still a publicly traded monster that demands expanential growth to its shareholders.
Guys…. for fantasy, just got to Para Bellum…. or Mantic…. or anyone else for that matter…
No where’s that GODS DAMNED COFFEE POT??

November 16, 2019 at 9:45 am #1457421I think GW underestimated how popular the historical version of Total War series was. They also made the mistake of not linking with any of their own products (even with something as basic as Bloodbowl). I guess they thought that handing over their license to a 3rd party in exchange for a new source of free money would be all the effort they needed.
I wonder … if this ‘new’ warhammer is simply a recreation of the Total Warhammer series on tabletop. As such it may lack the connection to the WFB series, because that system is dead and the current audience is more likely to make the link with TW.
The things that were happening at GW at the time AoS was developed didn’t help the launch of the product. I suspect part of GW wanted it to fail as it was the brainchild of a former manager. That sort of thing often happens in companies when a manager or management team is replaced : ‘they did it so it must be bad / our ideas are the best’
@twodeesick any company is in it for the money. They might appear to be customer friendly initially, but they either change that attitude or fail.
Companies are only loyal to their customers if there is profit to be had.
Likewise customers are only loyal as long as it suits their needs.
The thing that makes Warhammer different is that you can’t find a competing company who can (legally) produce content to use in that setting.
Part of the problem is that thinking in abstract terms is difficult for a lot of people , which is why telling them that they could switch from GW to a new system (or back again) is not easy. This only works in historical settings, because the fluff isn’t unique to a specific company. This new marketing is brilliant. I do doubt it was designed to hinder the launch of KoW, because with this being the Christmas season it is the perfect time to let your friends and enemies know that you’ve got something new planned. And with GW being as big as they are they don’t even need to show a lot to generate hype. Everyone is going to have an opinion and do their work for them as this thread proves.
I’d say that other companies could learn a thing or two from this. The only problem is that they lack the branding and marketing budget to try and compete.
Mantic could easily claim “They always new it was hip to be square” … but I kind of doubt they are the kind of company who would engage with their competition like that. They will have to do something if they want to be more visible and not rely on word of mouth alone. Especially these precious few weeks after launch and before Christmas.btw : I wouldn’t be surprised if GW eventually acquires Mantic or Warlord or any else for that matter, because that is something big companies do when they need to acquire a profitable technology/IP without having to invest their own time.
November 16, 2019 at 9:52 am #1457422And boom! There we have it folks. The 1st gw apologist who loves an abusive relationship.
Thanks for sharing with the group. Help yourself to snacks.
November 16, 2019 at 9:54 am #1457423Mantic have already engaged with it – https://www.facebook.com/manticgames/videos/794774804299081/
November 16, 2019 at 10:13 am #1457427Hmm. I’m not sure I have an opinion on this. I like the Old World as an IP, much more than AOS which is nonsensical, unreadable pap in my opinion. Seeing it return in some form is therefore welcome.
Square-based games though… hmm, not so much. These days for me, collecting and painting a big army for a single system is not where I’m at. I enjoy dabbling in lots of smaller systems nowadays and see returning to the old WFB format as a step backwards. So I’m unlikely to by into a new edition of WFB for the same reason I never got into 9th Age and have ground to a halt with KoW (just play existing armies now, and pretty rarely at that)
We’ll see.
Watch this
November 16, 2019 at 10:18 am #1457430Interesting reactions to this news!
November 16, 2019 at 10:22 am #1457431I don’t think Mantic are ever going to do miniatures that i prefer and Kings Of War does not appeal as a game. I thought Para Bellum might deliver something more to my liking but the more they’ve revealed the less i like it. So as much as i’m wary of Games Workshop i will still be watching with interest, just in case they actually deliver.
November 16, 2019 at 10:28 am #1457433Great analysis @limburger.
