I say that *points up* as someone who still has five boxes of Greatswords to paint.
November 15, 2019 at 3:10 pm #1457170Not a lot of information really but they seem to be on the brink of admitting that getting rid of their best setting was a bad idea. They’ve basically announced that they’ve got a team looking at ways to bring the Old World back.
Now if they wanted to say sorry they’d destroy all the Sigmarines as well but they won’t do that because they have bad taste (and the hobby ruining Sigmarines are too established now).
November 15, 2019 at 3:10 pm #1457172Won’t be as good as KoW. Thread closed.
November 15, 2019 at 3:12 pm #1457173I quite often thought Forgeworld should take over Warhammer Fantasy. Its just an immensly strong IP and I have no doubt there is a valiable niche for it.
I would immediately start a Dwarf and an Ork army.
November 15, 2019 at 3:14 pm #1457175@balginstondraeg the Sigmarines going the way of Poochy would make this grognard grin like a fool.
November 15, 2019 at 3:15 pm #1457176November 15, 2019 at 3:20 pm #1457179My dwarf army is still unpainted… From 6th Ed…. It’s all built and I love it I just suck at making progress painting.
Fantasy is what got me into the hobby so I’m intrigued to see what they do but they better not fuck up the setting…again…
November 15, 2019 at 3:32 pm #1457181I just don’t get why they didn’t keep the old miniatures and the old Warhammer Fantasy. Instead they waited until most of the old kits are repackaged or go out of print?
November 15, 2019 at 3:59 pm #1457191The main problem with WFB financially was that players already had armies to use. Explode the old-world, wait a few years for enough players to dump their armies, then bring it back : players need to buy armies again! 😉
More seriously, while I’m excited about this announcement, obviously it’s a little soon to tell exactly what it’s going to bring. Are we talking new ruleset? If so, hopefully it’ll still be along the lines of previous editions.
Most of all I’d love to see GW releasing new figures (dwarf warriors please!), though I can imagine this may well be more of a ‘back-burner’ project without the resources for new plastics – possibly Forgeworld resins, but the market is already pretty full with alternative models in resin, and I haven’t always been impressed by FW’s sculpts.
November 15, 2019 at 4:13 pm #1457195So it sounds like Mantic has a couple years to formulate a Kings Of War response.
November 15, 2019 at 4:38 pm #1457211I’m betting it has casualty removal to annoy those multi base players. The beautiful unit dioramas. Games Workshop will be trying to compete with something (just as contrast paints were obviously trying to compete with Army Painter) so the question is not so much what are they competing with so much as how they’re going to do so and that question is the main one that this new team are probably trying to address right now.
At least it’s not going to be for a while yet so we have some time to get used to the idea before they announce anything more detailed.
November 15, 2019 at 5:16 pm #1457219All the best to GW but honestly that ship has sailed as far as I am concernex. KoW 3e looks like fun, I can use all my old WFB armies with it and more besides should I choose as it contains a few “generic lists” like the Kingdoms of Men.
Also, I think I might have won a copy of 3e here on BoW…
November 15, 2019 at 5:17 pm #1457220I say who cares. About as many people will play this as play 30K. AoS is bigger and will remain bigger (and make more money). GW just figures that there is a portion of the market out there that they can tap into. Their profits are up as are their shares. It is a business and if there are people they can make money from that they aren’t right now (or people that they can make more money from) then why not have the old world. Any of the AoS haters out there that think this is the end of AoS are very mistaken.
November 15, 2019 at 5:35 pm #1457222Dear Tom Kirby,
Everything you did was shite and we will not rest until all your works are eradicated and forgotten.
Sincerely,
Everyone at Games Workshop.
November 15, 2019 at 5:45 pm #1457227A movement tray is all that is needed to change round based mini unit to a square formation. Enter the “Specialist Game Warhammer Battle Base” being the modular movement trays of old in new packaging @£25 each. or they even will make movement trays with indentations for bases.
I would hazard a guess that they will make the unit footprints in the “new” WFB larger seeing as the new minis are on larger round bases.
