Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausführung B, 1st Panzer Division, France 1940 This is one of my recently finished projects and I am going to explain to you the process of painting and weathering this tank. First I started by applying 2 thin layers of RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau from the AK interactive Real Colors range of paints. Then I added some RAL 9002 White little by little highlighting and modulating the basecoat to increase contrast and getting a more interesting look. One of the great things about the AK Real Colors is that they can be applied directly over the plastic of a model kit without applying primer and it still does not peel off. After that I started the Oil process, starting by applying dark blue and dark sepia in the shadows and for the highlights I applied some light grey and buff. When all colors have been applied I started blending them using a flat brush dampened with Odorless thinner from Abteilung 502. I then varnished the model to seal it for the next layer of oil paints. The next step was to apply a dot streaking filter using mostly brown and grey shades of oil paints from Abteilung 502. After the oils it was time to start the rust and dust process using enamel weathering products from AK Interactive and also some pigments from PK-Pro focusing mostly on the horizontal areas of the tank and the places near the tracks. On darker paint schemes like the early war german tanks, Dust and dirt washes can help alot when trying to show details in the armor. When the dust is done I added some mud on the lower hull around the wheels with AK interactive light dust deposits mixed with PK-Pro Plaster to add more texture. Finally I added some interesting spots of fuel and oil stains around various areas. This was a very fun project to work on and I learnt alot from it.
