Excellent haul @tuffyears – many happy returns 🙂
This morning I got in early to catchup on some work… had covfefe in my favourite mug 🙂
Then with a little time to kill got stuck into the Lake Town Set to get the painting underway…
Step 1 – I use black primer on the roof tops – haven’t fully decided what I’m doing with them but likely a grey tile effect of some sort so black was a reasonable choice for these.
Step 1b – While I had the black can out I flipped all the walk ways upside down and primed the underneath of them black to give the undersides the darkest shade I could, this will save me time later I hope.
Step 2 – Grey Seer
So I have been wrestling with the idea of either using GW’s new Wraith Bone or Grey Seer Primer for the Upper surfaces. I love the warmth of Wraithbone, but struggled to find a can of it in the studio this morning, so I thought what the hell, lets go with grey seer, it ‘Might’ give me a better more aged wood effect in the long run anyway.
The nice thing about Grey Seer is it has just a touch or warmth to it as well, it really is an interesting colour. And it goes on beautifully.
Step 3 – I then applied Grey Seer to the tops of the walkways. Now I’m just gonna let that cure for a while and enjoy my covfefe!!!!
Happy Monday folks!
October 14, 2019 at 9:16 am #1446997How did you tackle the problem with attaching the small roofs to the big roofs? Stuff it with green/grey/brown-stuff? (And no, I can’t be arsed to rewatch the XLBS to find the spot where Justin gives the appropriate term XD 😉
October 14, 2019 at 9:21 am #1447007For the moment I have just left them as is to see what the effect is like. The ‘seal and leading’ on those kinds of winds is quite recessed as it is, so it might look fine.
October 14, 2019 at 9:28 am #1447010If you do need to do anything, I’d just use tin foil (plenty in that in the hats you wear 😉 ) to proxy lead around the dormer.
October 14, 2019 at 9:38 am #1447011October 14, 2019 at 9:42 am #1447015Good idea @robert!
So put it all back in a little layout to see how it goes together now
So far so good – I’ll have a think about the next stage now… 🙂
October 14, 2019 at 11:08 am #1447066I’m not just a pretty face! I actually like those buildings. They aren’t worth the RRP, but they are nice if a bit shoddy.
Coffee this morning was provided by this guy. I always wanted 23″ pythons.
Saturday and Sunday were the first days since the 40k weekend that I didn’t do any physical hobbying… no not that… but painting, building or converting, so my streak is gone. Going to concentrate on a few other things for the next wee while, especially 15mm Germans and 28mm Romans.
Will finish the green stuff on this though.
And speaking of 15mm Germans… today I am going to get a lot of these cleaned up, I hope.
October 14, 2019 at 11:11 am #1447069The dude on the mug was the shirt ripper… you’re thinking of Jake “The Snake” Roberts 😉
October 14, 2019 at 5:28 pm #1447140So I managed to grab a few mins to do a rough test of the colour and shading on the walkways.
The camera makes it look just a little more orange and warm than it is in real life.
But for a fast Model Mates method I’m pleased enough with the results 🙂
October 14, 2019 at 6:24 pm #1447155You need mermaids on that…. like the ones from Brother Vinni XD
October 14, 2019 at 8:26 pm #1447188@sundancer that would cause a ton of awkward questions from kids.
Q: “What are they doing?”
A: “She’s got sand in her eyes and he’s pushing her ashore … ”*wink* *wink*
// — edit —
Interesting … I noticed there is a scale-model convention in my area this weekend and Brother Vinni is listed as one of the traders. Might be interesting to see what he’s got.
