Good morning from rainy Germay. Since I have the day off I’d thought I’d kick this thread back to life.
### Star of shameless copy & paste ###
Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS!
### End of shameless copy & paste ###
Questions:
- Making money work. How to you plan your spendings in the hobby? Do you plan at all?
- Painting at home, at friends or at the club? Do you ever move your base of painting operations? And if you in what quantities?
- Getting back into it. Everyone of us has had a phase where the hobby wasn’t anything we’d be doing. Either because of job reasons, growing family or just not being motivated. How do you get back into the flow?
Now lets get this thing rolling.
October 4, 2019 at 11:45 am #1443606My Answers:
- Yes, I plan. I must plan or there won’t be any hobby budget. Money always seems to burn holes in my pockets so I put a certain amount a month aside and when that’s used up I wait until the next month.
- Only painting at home. Don’t have enough spare time to “waste” it on travels.
- Don’t have really an answer to this. Usually I clean up a lot before starting again.
Here comes the weekend!
October 4, 2019 at 12:23 pm #1443611Hey.
So something I didn’t get into the last thread was the scenery I am making for Warcry. So think desert canyons.
Also finished my enforcers.
Tomorrow is more Warcry, texturing the terrain, and airbrushing some BSF models to paint.
1. Making money work. How to you plan your spendings in the hobby? Do you plan at all?
Yeah I do a good bit of planning to maximise my money. What am I playing the most? Does a purchase work in multiple armies. Stuff like that.
2. Painting at home, at friends or at the club? Do you ever move your base of painting operations? And if you in what quantities?
Never paint anywhere but at home. I just don’t want to move around like that and risk losing things, or have a lack of control over the environment.
3. Getting back into it. Everyone of us has had a phase where the hobby wasn’t anything we’d be doing. Either because of job reasons, growing family or just not being motivated. How do you get back into the flow?
Moving house really was a knock on my hobby – often the first thing to get the inspiration back is to get some games in. And then plan a painting project that will enhance that game. Even just one small model is enough.
Sorting out my office space has now meant I can get into the swing of airbrushing again (especially as the cold weather sets in).
October 4, 2019 at 12:25 pm #1443612Ok, I’ll jump in this week.
- It depends. If something new comes along (game, army) that piques my interest, I’ll tend to plan my spending accordingly…gets a tad expensive if I lose control. If it’s hobby or single unit/minis related then I’ll just throw whatever money it needs at it. With that said I’m not blessed with a lot of funds, so if the money isn’t there I have to wait.
- I always paint at home, although our club sometimes has a terrain hobby day which could change that if I get to one.
- Usually ends up being a new game or a new version of an existing one that kickstarts me into action.
Happy weekend everyone, all going well mine will start within the next 2 hours.
Nearly forgot my pledge. The wife has made sure my weekend is busy this week, so I’m looking to finish just one Bloodbowl Ork as a paint scheme test.
October 4, 2019 at 12:58 pm #1443619Pledge – Finish this
but there is a fuck tonne of rugby on this weekend and I wouldn’t be surprised if I spent most of my time watching it and shouting at the TV.
Answers
1. Yes and no. I’ve spent Octobers money already but see Halfling Wizards I want for my KoW army. I’ll probably get them but it might mean less Budgies and Badgers when the Kickstarter kicks off.
2. I went to a 40K weekend, but that is it. I used to be able to build the odd model in work during weekends when it was quiet, but I never brought in painting things, just snipers, knife glues and sandy mould line remover things.
3. Looking at the projects on here is a good way to get motivated, seeing lots of awesome toys being built and painted.
October 4, 2019 at 1:32 pm #14436211. Plan that’s an interesting concept , I think answers it !
2. Bootcamps and Hobby weekends, at OTT, does regularly doing hobby, painting in the kitchen of an evening , rather than in the games room at the weekend count as moving your base of operations?
3. Did have a brief interlude for 4 years when I played soldiers for real in RAF ( some may argue that’s not really soldiers) though did build a 15mm Byzantine army in the set room over a period of months on night shifts.
Pledge is to annoy boardgamers at Walsall board games event on Sunday with Battletech.
October 4, 2019 at 4:48 pm #1443736It’s about time I jumped into one of these threads instead of just lurking.
Pledge: Paint at least Asterix (Bonus points for getting Obelix printed)
- Making money work. How to you plan your spendings in the hobby? Do you plan at all? I generally don’t have a huge amount of money to throw around so I try to limit my spending every month to about £50. I could afford more maybe but I’m trying to be sensible which is difficult when people keep releasing wonderful shiny minis that I must have
- Painting at home, at friends or at the club? Do you ever move your base of painting operations? And if you in what quantities? Sometimes I bring painting stuff to the OTT visitor centre, I prefer to paint at home where I have my tv that I can mindlessly watch Bob’s Burgers on.
- Getting back into it. Everyone of us has had a phase where the hobby wasn’t anything we’d be doing. Either because of job reasons, growing family or just not being motivated. How do you get back into the flow? Small steps I suppose. I think the most important thing is to get something done. Even if its just a small bit of paint or tidying up a mini. It’s like with writing you have to keep doing it, even if it is only 100 words a day. Keep momentum.
October 4, 2019 at 5:52 pm #1443758Pledge-wise I feel like Pinky & Brain … what are we doing ? The same thing as every week.
Gots to get my Orks finished.
1> Making money work. How to you plan your spendings in the hobby? Do you plan at all?
I think I am lucky as I have minimal expenses and the only expensive hobby I’ve got is this one …
Besides, who needs food anyway, right ?2> Painting at home, at friends or at the club? Do you ever move your base of painting operations? And if you in what quantities?
The one thing that’s kind of making hobby difficult is a lack of a space to prime & paint, which is kind of preventing me from finishing a lot of the stuff I’ve started.3> Getting back into it. Everyone of us has had a phase where the hobby wasn’t anything we’d be doing. Either because of job reasons, growing family or just not being motivated. How do you get back into the flow?
The events like the recent 40k hobby weekend are great motivators. It provides a way to focus on a specific project.
I think having a dedicated hobby space is going to be the one thing that is going to help a lot as well.
It’s one of the things I’m focussing on in my search for a house to buy (it’s a shame they don’t list “man cave” as a feature ;-)).And given this months’ unofficial theme :
October 5, 2019 at 11:05 am #1444027No one alive ? Or everyone too busy hobbying to post ?
The mailman always rings twice …
One expected package (WaaaghCry! + the new Ork codex for Age of Sigmar + a few other bits and pieces)
And an unexpected delivery : Chronicle X core game (Archon Studios )
I think the guy doing the delivery for UPS was new and didn’t understand how to read a re-routed package. Net result is I gots it today instead of picking it up on monday at the pickup point.October 5, 2019 at 11:26 am #1444031Still recovering from some beers yesterday…. and trying to figure out the last riddle
October 5, 2019 at 11:44 am #1444042On my second rugby match of the morning and have been weeding the garden as well as it isn’t pissing with rain. I did pop into the shed and added some more slime to the Nurgino.
Mon, Samoa!
October 5, 2019 at 7:04 pm #1444340(no … I am no spammer … I’m too fast for this forum ;-))

Nemesis, Core space and Gaslands:Refueled … the boys do know their games 😉
October 5, 2019 at 8:19 pm #1444363Finally got asterix base done it was bloody hard. Very fiddly because unlike a real mini it’s difficult to see where one part ends and the other begins.
Here’s the start of him anyway. Pretty happy with the colours at least needs clean up obviously.
October 5, 2019 at 8:33 pm #1444365@limburger Mon = Come on, Samoa = Samoa
@lordsanes good start, also is the movie Stalingrad any good?
Terrible day of rugby… England won… boo! Japan won and got an injury time bonus point… boo! Ulster lost… embarrassingly bad….boo!
Hobby, nothing exciting to report… more colour on the Nurgino and a I did a bit of work on a converted Nurgle Blight-Hauler – it really has been nothing to see here stuff and don’t have photographic evidence.
October 5, 2019 at 8:53 pm #1444368@robert does watching rugby reduce speaking and writing skills to grunting ? 😉
I’ll make sure to never to watch that sport if it does … 😀
@lordsanes Asterix is looking good. Obelix and Idefix next I suppose ?
