Heard? I’m so old, I bought the boxed copy of the game when it was new… and that box is still on there on my shelf of PC games XD
February 11, 2020 at 12:20 pm #1485344I remember playing a three-screen demo off a magazine cover disk (back when they used to tape a few floppy disks of shareware on the front of a PC magazine) I loved it and went out to buy the full boxed version – on three x 3.5″ floppy disks! (the CD version with the voice acting came later). Those were the days…
I sent some DOTT miniatures to the Beastie Boys. I thought they’d love them – everybody just looked at me blankly. But never mind those – check out that honking great ogre. I’m loving printing my own minis!
February 11, 2020 at 12:23 pm #1485345February 11, 2020 at 8:33 pm #1485408Day of the Tentacle ?
I just missed that one as I more or less the 386 – series. However I do remember it being one of the LucasArts adventures that got good reviews.
I did play Monkey Island 2 and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.GoG probably has them somewhere in its archive.
Roland MT-32 … I remember that sound
this was when sampling wasn’t perfected yet and MIDI music became an option for pc-games.
I still have a Roland MT-32/General MIDI box of magic, but no MIDI output for my pc.February 11, 2020 at 10:26 pm #1485417I remember playing day of the tentacle too. It took me ages to beat the game with its weird time travel problem solving.
February 11, 2020 at 10:54 pm #1485445I just wrote a review for Mythic Battles: Pantheon if anyone is interested (https://www.beastsofwar.com/game-review/1485432/). I’ve played a few games of it now and feel comfortable publishing my opinion on it.
February 12, 2020 at 5:41 am #1485464Writing a review for a boardgame, I can see myself do that… but for a complete miniatures game…. I think I’m way to single minded to do anything justice there. But well done.
February 12, 2020 at 9:36 pm #1485668Kickstarters … they really are like delayed/early Christmas presents 😀
Currently tracking one listing ‘WARGAMER KONRAD SOSINSK’ as its source.
I hate it when there is no clear indicator who or what is heading my way.
It’s as if as soon as something crosses the border the vital info dissappears.I think that’s Anno Domini 1666 kickstarter, because I got a notification that its status had changed to a new Polish word.
February 13, 2020 at 9:01 am #1485772So it’s nearly time for a new weekender; just a few loose ends to tie up on this one. I got my animatronic forge working, but it’s all held together with string and blu-tack and looks a bit rough – as soon as it’s presentable, I’ll post update pics.
In the meantime, I got a bit sidetracked…. adding LEDs to miniatures again!
Those 1206 surface mount LEDs in the tutorial? They’re massive, right? I got hold of some Titan Forge “Metal Beards” (self-printed of course) and modified the .stl files to include channels for wiring. Unfortunately, the robot dragon on Gargy The Dragon Engineer is only a few millimetres tall and his head is far to small to fit one in…
So I made the void in his head as large as I dared (the resin gets very fragile; it’s already very brittle, and when it’s so thin it’s like your mum’s best china) and soldered up a tiny 0603 LED:
The channels meant that even microfine wire had a few problems squeezing through the voids:
But eventually, with plenty of patience (and quite a bit of swearing) the wires went through not just the head of the dragon, but the dragon body, down the dawrf’s arm, back along his body and down his leg. The best bit….
….it worked!
So I threw an LED inside Lord Gemalin too, to make his cyborg eye glow a cool, hi-tech blue:
Of course, they still need painting up to block out the LED light from everywhere except where I want it to escape from – but as a first try, dry fit, they’re looking pretty good!
February 13, 2020 at 9:36 am #1485809Have you ever considered using silver paint for one of the two wires? I’ve seen a lot of people using it to light the light sabres on Legion models. No need for drilling holes and can be painted over.
February 13, 2020 at 11:27 am #1485876I’ve played a little with the silver paint (I used the car windscreen heater repair paint rather than GSW conductive paint, but I’m guessing they’re pretty similar). It’s *ok*. But on models where I want to get the LEDs inside, rather than sitting on the surface (for example, the robot dragon has an LED *inside* it’s head that shines out) it’s not so easy to join two pieces of a model, trapping the LED inside AND ensure a good continuity connection between the silver paint, once assembled.
Also, each LED needs two traces painting to it, and these traces need to be as broad as possible (resistance in conductive paint is measured “per square” so it’s not great for long thin lines) so it’s not really suitable if more than one LED is required (as per Gerry’s Necron with eyes and gun illuminated) as you quickly run out of surface area to use for the traces.
Lastly, I like to add a controlling circuit in the base (like those touch-to-activate darlington transistors) which is almost impossible to connect to a line of conductive paint, without soldering on some wires anyway.
In short, yes, I have. I’m just much more comfortable with wires and solder!
February 13, 2020 at 11:59 am #1485887See, that’s why I love this site: each time I ask I get a very comprehensive answer and not something like “google it!” 😉
Thanks. 🙂
February 13, 2020 at 1:41 pm #1485921each time I ask I get a very comprehensive answer
Yeah, my missus says I drone on a bit too 😉
February 13, 2020 at 3:26 pm #1485928I’m not dead! I’ve just been worked over very hard and suffer from having no more work at the moment.
From the hinterlands I pledge to move house and get my hobby back up asap.
As far as questions..
The studio is off limits still … no droids allowedAn OTT/BoW beer flavor… that makes me think I need to head over to the gaming store/beer hall I know of to perform “research” but off the cuff I’d say something along the lines of each on camera personality could do.
- Gerry would have a brew that snuck in the flavor of other spirits from fermentation barrels (a double IPA).
- Sam’s flavor would be a light session (heffeweisen or pilsner) for easy drinking.
- Justin to bring a homey feeling of comfort (brown ale).
- Lloyd, rough to pin down but maybe a simple but solid brew to have at the ready might work for him (kolsch).
- Ben could throw in the odd flavor of roasted coffee for an element of sophistication (a milk stout not to be given to Warren due to caffeine potential).
- Warren would be the shock element to make people open their eyes wide and water to wonder where this flavor came from (a sour or gosse).
A new logo to see is hard since most things are pretty well set and still working. Maybe a “Voices Not in Our Heads” segment-for community outreach- could work.
Page 1 for stuff and things
@sundancer why do I suddenly imagine slash-fic of MLP/Transformers and all the horrors of Rule 34 when you post things like that?@thedace The castle must be EMBIGGENED!!! Honestly though it looks pretty cool as is.
@limburger fragile minis for play? Are you nuts? Those things are going to be dropped atleast 2 dozen times. Be careful my friend.
February 13, 2020 at 4:02 pm #1485988@horati0nosebl0wer Rule 34? You think of it because you’re a veteran of the web… 😉
