My Pledge: Get the Secret Satan posted out, its been packed up in a box for over a week and i haven’t done it (edit collection booked for tomorrow)

    Question: Generally yes.

Its been a year with many ups and downs for me and I do tend to feel down when its dark starting and finishing work. However I’ve been feeling more motivated and optimistic as of late, I could do with a evening with a good bottle of whiskey sat in an armchain with a log fire and some good craic.

A month or two ago I wrote a post on what a jokingly called a cult had me feeling a bit down and demotivated with an aspect of my hobby, as part of that i suggested taking a step away from it may be a good thing. I turns out I was right, i muted/unfollowed people on social media, stopped watching some youtube channels and generally disconnected from that wider community.

I also had a huge hobby clearout which helped (though the pile is still large), that actually freed up more of my hobby time to branch out into other things, something thats been super beneficial as I’ve been slowly working on projects i enjoy rather than a project i should be doing to meet others ideas or expectations. This weirdly seems to have lifted a huge weight off my shoulders I didnt know was there and at the same time reinvigorated my love of the hobby by just doing random stuff because I want too.

I don’t think you need to be in a “bad place” to need an evening like that. I would even go so far and say that’s a “preventive maintenance measure” to keep you away from dark spots.

At times a “personal reset” is needed. Not only cleaning and clearing your physical hobby space but the mental one. It’s a hobby, it should bring nothing but joy most of the times. If any part/aspect doesn’t: bin that part. 🙂

@jamescutts as always: my inbox is open should you feel to talk to someone far far away and vent about aspects 🙂
