@blinky465 Thanks, mate! It’s a very clean job I ended up going for just because it was taking me so long, anyway, that doing a panel at a time is what I had time for. 😛
October 8, 2020 at 12:13 am #1572942Wow. It’s been pretty quiet in here this week. Is everyone busy with real-life stuff and work? Or has everyone gone off on holiday before the new lockdown measures come in or what?
(I’ve been distracted making CNC machines this week, but am determined to pick up a brush and try to finish off a couple of projects over the weekend!)
October 8, 2020 at 12:31 am #1572943Everyone is mucking about with https://www.heroforge.com/ 🙂 @blinky465
October 8, 2020 at 3:03 am #1572951Like all great shits this one was held for a while…. heeeere iiiiiiit coomeeees!!!!
Pledge: Work on my Orktober figure. A fine thing to work upon and build up for festivities.
Time seems to be subjective. I’ve realized it sped up.. or maybe I slowed down, eh, that ending point is the thing that I wonder about sometimes.
Hmmm… in honor of @sundancer and his attachment to Star Wars I offer this minor infestation of earworms. You’re welcome
aaaaand maybe something for both he and @johnlyons
Then again lets add some more
Now.. crank that shit up to 11!!!!
Now no list of this manner is complete without this game soundtrack… listen at your own peril (really, take a listen and then look up the game)
Orktober! Yes, another year of green goodness. Nautical mayhem has ensued yet again as I have taken on the painting of a firstmate.
@blinky465 Good to have you onboard for the orkiness of the year. I look forward to your green team. Now as far as pulling the Kondo of decluttering I’m fully supportive. I’m rethinking my minis right now and considering doig more mini giveaways as well. I plan on being the Santa of minis when my hair turns white (may be a while but it’ll happen).
@limburger Egad 10 hours of badgers! I see that, raise and call
@danlee Smart move on the earworms. @sundancer and I have not had a music battle for a while and bowing out before the calamity begins is best. I hope your random pick continues this. The idea of chain minis is good to shrink down the distance of this big world.
@sundancer Building up display bases helps with the motivation for doing stuff when painting and building slows down.
@crazyredcoat good to have you stop by amid the chaos. I’ll be sure to put something together as you’re orkless in the spirit of previous statements. This just requires a trip to storage and rooting around in stuff.
@lloyd Holy hell, we’re being invaded by staff!!! I guess the insanity was too much to hold back from the Beasts
October 8, 2020 at 10:42 am #1573049October 8, 2020 at 12:07 pm #1573085@lloyd – I’ve burned more than a couple of hours playing on that website too – in fact, they’ve had my pocket money allowance for this month!
@horati0nosebl0wer – that was a big dump! I hope you used the brush and cleaned the sides….
I’ve just realised I’m a week into Orktober and barely got started. And I’ve a load of stuff in the painting queue. A Blitz Bowl team rather than a Blood Bowl one still counts, right?
October 8, 2020 at 12:11 pm #1573087October 8, 2020 at 1:28 pm #1573126I blew my “don’t start a new project” pledge this week. Like – I suspect – most people who usually lurk on these forums, I’ve been playing with the Hero Forge website. “Make your own heroes” they said. So I did.
It’s 30 years since I bunked a day off school and helped carry some gear for a bunch of herberts who were playing a gig at my local (ok, not-so-local, but the only venue in my area of North Wales) rock nightclub that night. It was amazing. And these guys have been my musical heroes since.
So I made some minis.
Of course, there’s going to be a full-stage diorama. And maybe even some audio to keep @avernos happy…. they’re printing right now (along with some Marshall amps I found on Thingiverse). Swapping out the stratocaster for a “Lucille” Gibson ES335 on the CJ model was an utter nightmare (Ginger often plays a flying V so I left it in place).
I’d love to re-create the air-jump(s) the lead players are known for. But couldn’t find a way of doing this in the HeroForge editor.
Is there anyone out there who knows how I could recreate these poses??
October 8, 2020 at 1:38 pm #1573139I know you can twist the limbs individually but I doubt they account for jumping 😉
October 8, 2020 at 3:57 pm #1573151October 8, 2020 at 4:52 pm #1573156@blinky465 I think after that drop my insides almost became my outsides butt there might be one last clinger
Ugh… I’m done
Now about your failure I summarily punish you by this lashing with another idea of geekery.
Now about that third tradition of the navy, with regard to the thread title, you’re all on your own. Regarding the HeroForge stuff you don’t need to worry about the legs. Go ahead and kitbash the resin. You can mess with the arch of the body in the advanced settings in order to make them correct for the aerial maneuvers. When you get them just hack the knee at a matching angle and then pin/greenstuff to cover the gap. After that you can mount on a relatively thin bit of piano wire (around .032″) that won’t distract from the mini. Clear acrylic would be pretty thick by comparison.
October 8, 2020 at 7:18 pm #1573181Holy hell, that Stargate is pretty awesome. And it’s just screaming BYJ48 stepper motor! (the same I used for Jabba’s Throne). What a great little project!
Good idea with “old school” hacking – I sometimes get dragged so far down the 3d/digital printing route, I sometimes forget to back up and use actual skills.
I got some blue XPS off the fleabay. I forget who sent me a link (it may have even been after I was moaning in a Facebook post, I can’t remember) but it arrived today. So the first thing I did was cut a chunk off and draw some wobbly wood-grain effect lines.
It was no better than the styrofoam! Top is drawn using my “hot pen” and is the finish I prefer. Below that the lines were drawn in pencil. On the second piece, I drew the lines using an old ballpoint pen (it had run out of ink but the result was the same). So, all in all, I’m pretty determined that I need a cnc hot pen machine for drawing walls and wood and magic runes and other stuff. “No more new projects” has gone well and truly out of the window….
