### Start of shameless copy & paste ###
Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy & paste ###
Question of the week:
- Does time still work or is accelerating and decelerating on its own?
- Give us your worst earworm!
- It’s Orktober also paintathon2020 – are you aware? Do you take part?
Now coffee.
October 2, 2020 at 6:09 am #1570875- Time goes Zuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum
- Blerp: https://youtu.be/JImcvtJzIK8
- Yes.
October 2, 2020 at 9:26 am #1570890October 2, 2020 at 10:28 am #1570893@torros,an earworm is a piece of music or a song that sticks in your head and you can’t get rid of it.
@sundancer is a fan of The Flash or of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory or both ?
1.Covid seems to have slowed time as the days all merge.
2.Don’t have one,my tiny brain is chock full of work stress and hobby stuff, earworms can’t get a hold in amongst all that.
3.Yes and No.
October 2, 2020 at 10:39 am #1570894@kantor72 nope. Haven’t watched The Flash or TBBT. Was just a thought in my head.
October 2, 2020 at 12:13 pm #1570915Ah well, not the first time I’ve made wrong guesses and it won’t be the last.It was the zuuuuuuuuuum that drew me towards them.
October 2, 2020 at 4:27 pm #1570972- Does time still work or is accelerating and decelerating on its own?
It feels like a concertina – or like when traffic on the motorway goes stop-start-stop-start (I know our German friends probably don’t understand this so much, but anyone in the UK who’s ever been on the M25 for more than a couple of junctions will know exactly what I’m talking about!). All the days kind of merge into one. So it feels like a Monday lasts for 72 hours. By the same token, the weeks are flying by all too quickly – it’s October already?!
- Give us your worst earworm:
You’re welcome
- It’s Orktober also paintathon2020 – are you aware? I am now. I’d heard of the Orktober thing – paintathon is a new one on me. I followed the link to https://www.magabotato.de/ in your project blog. But it’s all in foreign 😉
- Do you take part?
I’m planning on joining in with my Blood Bowl Orcs. I like these little community join-along-a-projects. But that’s mainly because I learned to paint faces this summer and stopped being ashamed of my efforts, so am happy to give anything a go!
Pledges.
Awwww man, I’m struggling with this one. I promised last week not to start any new projects until all my existing ones are complete. Then I went a broke it by creating a “hot pen” to go along with my hot wire cutter. Now I’ve got this crazy idea of making a CNC machine and using a “hot pen” instead of a drill/spindle to draw half-bond brick patterns on styrofoam.
I know. Absolutely unnecessary. Which is why it’s so hard not to do it.
You already had some music. Have some more. More Wildhearts. Your day just got better, right?
October 2, 2020 at 5:17 pm #15709771) Does time still work or is accelerating and decelerating on its own?
I think time slows down due to 2020 being such a crap shoot … every time you think you’re safe something even worse happens.2) Give us your worst earworm!
Earworms you said ?It’s a small world after all, but this one takes the cake and eats it :
Badgering a lot are we ?
I think my job here is done 😉
3) It’s Orktober also paintathon2020 – are you aware? Do you take part?
As with almost all of my plans : they exist, but rarely survive contact with reality.
Definitely will plan to do some ork-related stuff … not sure if anything will happen, but the things that will happen are going to be documented for posterity. Also … picking up a kickstarter package today. Not sure which one, but we’ll see once I haz got it and opened ze box.
Plan is to continue working on my Soviet army. I got the ‘German an Russian tank models’ book that I mentioned in previous unofficial weekender. It effectively is a step by step guide of 4 incredibly detailed scale models (3 tanks and one soviet soldier). Not sure if any tricks in the books work at wargaming scales, but it is a nice reference anyway.
October 2, 2020 at 5:29 pm #1570980This week’s pledge is to paint up the model sent to me in the gifting chain. Then I need to crack on painting milestone one of my Dweghom. I finished assembling them last night.
- Does time still work or is accelerating and decelerating on its own? – It seems to be going really slow when I look to the future, but has gone really quickly when I look to the past!
- Give us your worst earworm! – Nope
- It’s Orktober also paintathon2020 – are you aware? Do you take part? – I was aware of Orktober but I’ve never had any Ork models so I don’t get involved. The novels GW has in the pipeline that are from an Ork perspective could be good though.
October 2, 2020 at 5:33 pm #1570981Hell do we know stop and stand and maybe go again in an hour on the autobahn @blinky465
“Stau” every drivers nightmare. Happens mostly on rush hour or when summer holiday starts.
GIB ERAWORM @danlee
October 4, 2020 at 5:11 pm #1571616So I’ve had a stroll through some of the recent projects and more than one time I came around “lost my mojo”, “got no motivation” and “can’t get myself to do hobby”.
I think it’s safe to say: we’ve all been there. I myself am sort of “forcing” myself to make the Orktober/paintathon work for me to get things done. But the most important part is: I still enjoy it once I start doing it. It’s the whole “set up the paint station, get fresh water” etc preparations that really slow me down or prevent me from doing anything.
Most times when this subject crops up suggestions are: do something different. Build something, clean and reorganize your hobby space or play instead of painting. Especially the “reorganizing your hobby space” seems to do it for me. Mainly because I find stuff again in stead of looking for it for ages.
What is your preferred method of “swinging the mood”?
October 4, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1571662Start a new project?
No, that can’t be the answer.
I just gave a load of minis away. That did more for my mojo than I expected – it cleared out a big part of my “pile of shame” and left me with only miniatures I was actually excited about painting. I’d printed a crap-ton (or is it a metric unit, I’m not sure?) of cyberpunk and cherry-picked the best looking ones. The rest were all nice minis (I’d taken the time to print them after all, and some were duplicates of ones I’d painted) but when I’d admitted to myself they were waaaay down the list for painting, they felt like a drag and made me feel guilty for printing newer models. Get rid. Cheer up!
October 5, 2020 at 5:20 am #1571747Hello, chaps! Just taking a quick moment to pop in and say hello to everyone. School is keeping me very busy and VERY stressed, but I had a quite moment. I guess I have time to answer your questions (though I didn’t know what an earworm was either…
Does time still work or is accelerating and decelerating on its own?
Time does not do work, though as acceleration is a product of changes in time and velocity I suppose it is a constituent part of force… Though it only slows down in the presence of VERY massive objects… I like relativity.
Give us your worst earworm!
Recently I’ve gotten this stuck in my head…
It’s Orktober also paintathon2020 – are you aware? Do you take part?
I am Orkless…and also have very little time to paint…though I have in the last few weeks managed to finish this chap…
Still needs basing…but that could take another week… Originally I was going to paint him as an Ultramarine to go with the rest of my chaps…but I got kind of tired of them constantly being mocked (the Ultras, not my minis specifically) so I picked Heresy Space Wolves for my Heresy plastics.
Anyhoo, I hope everyone is well and I will try and find more time to pop in and chat!
TTFN!
October 5, 2020 at 9:18 pm #1572089That’s a great looking mini! Nice mix of brilliant paintwork and transfers – really nice details!
October 5, 2020 at 9:49 pm #1572099I’ve finished the first mode from the COGs only gifting chain (https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/cogs-only-gifting-chain/). You can find the full project entry here: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1467945/.
Anybody interested in joining in for round two just needs to DM me during the next week and then someone will be picked at random.
