@irredeemable I use one of the texture paints (Aggaros Dunes, I think) shaded with Agrax and drybrushed with Screaming Skull. Unfortunately, though, I’m out of two of those three paints, so for now I will probs paint the bases flat black until I can get a hold of those paints… (I paint the rims black then gloss them)
May 26, 2020 at 8:49 pm #1530685Running out of paint is a pain. I was running low on Abaddon Black back in early March and I ordered two pots from GW. Problem was I also ordered a Made to Order book which normally takes weeks to get released. That pushed my order despatch into the Covid closure. Had to wait ages for it.
May 26, 2020 at 9:30 pm #1530694Yeah, I might have to order more soon, but I was hoping I’d be able to avoid it.
May 27, 2020 at 3:24 am #1530736They are now finished! Praise be to the Æsir and the Vanir! The b’stards are finally done! Tomorrow I will add a full on step by step in my project log. Shame the bases aren’t done, yet, but I will wait and see for a bit longer about where and when I can rectify my missing paint problem.
I think I’ll also put my Ultramarine Project Log on hold for a while after this and start up a more open log of general stuff that I am working on. I’ve achieved (and surpassed with these chaps) of painting a 1000pt. army, and I am just a little sick of painting blue at the moment. 😛 I have lots of other minis to work on, plus some small touch-ups here and there on some other minis. So look out for a project update from me in the next day or two!
May 27, 2020 at 7:35 pm #1531038Finished yesterday fighting with a clogged airbrush and it killed my hobby buzz for today. Getting some reading done instead. I’m hoping to have my RPG group back at the table at some point in June and I’m currently running ‘Emissary Lost’ for Coriolis. Not sure if all my players will be able to return at once so I’m writing a small side plot that should take up a few sessions until we can get everyone together.
I’m also reading the Warhammer Horror novel ‘Castle of Blood’. It’s been a strange read so far. I’ve read hundreds of books set in the Old World but this is my first in the Mortal Realms. It’s weird not having any points of reference or a basic understanding of the setting. Especially when so many familiar terms are thrown in too. I plan on running the new C7 RPG Soulbound at some (distant) point so I’m sure I’ll start to piece it together eventually.
Was in the mood for blastbeats today.
May 28, 2020 at 1:04 am #1531086Well, the project log is up! This’ll be the last entry, for a while I think, in this particular project. I’m planning to start a new one with a more general feel to it just to give me a bit of a break from the Marines. I might try and get some of my Bolt Action done! We’ll have to see. Here’s a link to my project, if anyone wants to check it out.
And enjoy some music!
May 28, 2020 at 1:36 am #1531087Just had a scroll through the project, rely nice stuff. I haven’t used the project system yet but I might set something up for my Admech build.
What kind of army are you putting together? Do you play competitive games or is it just ‘Rule of Cool’ for unit choice?
May 28, 2020 at 2:28 am #1531089@irredeemable I am more of a collector than a gamer, though I do enjoy playing. The core of my army is built from Dark Millennium with some extra bits added in as and when I got around to getting them. Unfortunately I lose around 8 months of the year to school, so progress is usually slower than I’d like. I probs would have lost this summer, too, were it not for The Event (stay indoors) because of field work. Silver linings and all that, eh? 😛 I build to fluff a little more than pure ‘rule of cool’, but I am deff not competitive. 😛
More Irish tunes! (I’m on a binge…)
May 28, 2020 at 5:08 pm #1531338As @warzan and the guys embark on a little spring cleaning around the website, I’ve been trying to do the same (intermittent connection issues *still* permitting). So marked a few projects as complete (as in, I’m not going to do much more with them, so closed them off!)
Just when I thought I’d finished my cyberpunk billboard I saw some brilliant spoof adverts in a Facebook group, so modified the hardware to run in either portrait or landscape mode. I contacted the guy who made the adverts and asked if I could send him something cool in the post. Amazingly, he said yes.
So while @sundancer complains about my projects never being finished or painted, maybe he’ll accept this as “done”? (I know I didn’t paint it, but it’s painted, right?). So another project “completed”. On with the next….(it’s a real time sink, but hopefully will be worth it!)
May 28, 2020 at 5:47 pm #1531341May 28, 2020 at 7:16 pm #1531353wonky or wanky … either way it’s still more done than any of my projects.
However when mine are done they will be da best. They will be really amazing.
So amazing that the big cheeto himself will say so.May 28, 2020 at 7:41 pm #1531355Sorry for next to no participation on my part this week, the dreaded need to get most of the collection in better storage than boxes on the floor finally reared it’s head so little progress made on the pledge. A few hours one evening did manage uniform basecoat and 2 M10 17Pdr.
May 28, 2020 at 11:07 pm #1531409I’ve only just noticed people in The Cult get little badges now. I feel left out… 😛 Once I’m a bit more financially able I think I’ll join up again, though last time I was in it there wasn’t much mention of a cult… Luckily I’m easily swayed. 😛 I might actually move on to some Bolt Action stuff for a bit, but I probs won’t get much more painting done before the next Weekender so I won’t say a yay or nay on that.
May 29, 2020 at 1:07 am #1531432Oooh. We got badgers.
I took my AnyCubic Photon for a spin this evening. For no other reason that it’s not been used for about three weeks and still had a tankful of resin sat in it (I printed a lid cover off Thingiverse a while back, so the resin was still good). I found some minis – they most definitely were not LOTR rip-offs, honestly, but consisted of a dwarf, an elf, a human, a hobbit and a large armoured guy with a raggedy cloak and tin helmet – absolutely, definitely not LOTR proxies.
Any way, I had my first ever failed print. I’ve had my printer since January and was surprised it’s taken until now for a full-on failure. A few minis still managed to stick to the plate, but the main man and the hobbit was nowhere to be seen.
It was only as I took them off, I realised – I hadn’t secured the resin tank in place before starting printing. D’oh!
So I’m marking this one up as “user error” rather than a print failure. I tightened the tank in place, set the same file printing just now and heard the comforting “slurp/rip” as the first layer peeled free of the FEP. We’ll find out in the morning if they turned out ok….
