### Start of shameless copy & paste ###
Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy & paste ###
Question of the week:
- Interacting with creators (YouTube video makers, game producing companies etc) – how is your experience with it?
- It’s October, have you started getting all the Christmas presents?
- From the ring of the alarm clock to full throttle, how long does it take you to get up to speed after waking up?
is it really Friday?
October 9, 2020 at 6:34 am #1573249- generally good. Nothing really bad ever happened… yet.
- *shakes head* but yes of course….
- Feels like an eternity but is more like 1 – 2 hours…
yes, seems so.
October 9, 2020 at 9:10 am #1573272Somewhat foolishly,my hobby has turned in a trio of games getting worked on,so time is spinning away even quicker than usual as far as hobby goes.
1.I have trouble interacting with people in general,so I shy away from interacting with creators of games that I have as I would inevitably babble on in a fanboy manner or shut up entirely and not say a word.
2.It’s a short list,so not quite yet.
3.At least 2 hours, maybe more depending on how tired I am overall.
October 9, 2020 at 5:45 pm #1573387I’ve got half a battalion of Napoleonic British line infantry on the go at the moment, almost halfway done. Let’s go for an ambitious pledge to get them finished this week. If I manage that, I’ll start prepping and priming the other half battalion, although there’s some samurai that keep drawing my attention that might distract me first.
1. Interacting with creators (YouTube video makers, game producing companies etc) – how is your experience with it?
By and large positive experiences, but I can’t think when I’ve spoken to a creator critically about their work – I guess that would be the occasion when negative responses are more likely…
2. It’s October, have you started getting all the Christmas presents?
No, although my wife did buy Christmas cards the other day, so I suppose that I’ll get poked into it soon!
3. From the ring of the alarm clock to full throttle, how long does it take you to get up to speed after waking up?
Probably an hour or two to get going, although I don’t think I’ve reached full throttle in a long time – a cloud of tiredness seems to ever linger at the moment.
October 9, 2020 at 7:03 pm #1573390I have a Reading Week! So I can actually do some more stuff this week! Though I do have to start a few labs and papers…so not all the time in the world… What it does mean, though, is that some more painting MIGHT be done! I still have to strip the paint of my Sansa Stark before I can get started on her again, but the base of my Contemptor is probably going to be done within a day…though I don’t have any snow paint to slap on top of the dirt…yet…so it may look a little boring to start with. I won’t make any specific pledges because of all the school stuff getting in the way still, but I’ll get SOMETHING done…
Questions!
Interacting with creators (YouTube video makers, game producing companies etc) – how is your experience with it?
I don’t do it too often. I’ve started helping out Youtube channels I really enjoy by helping them play into the algorithms, but that’s about it, really…
It’s October, have you started getting all the Christmas presents?
No, and I’d thank you not to bring this up again! 😛
From the ring of the alarm clock to full throttle, how long does it take you to get up to speed after waking up?
Several years? I’m not sure if I have been truly awake for most of The Event and The Event 2: Electric Boogaloo…
October 9, 2020 at 7:10 pm #1573391No, and I’d thank you not to bring this up again! ?
I’ll ask again in 3 weeks then 😉
October 9, 2020 at 9:20 pm #1573411I’m making a bit of progress on my Soviets (mostly limited to a private project). I do hope I can get enough hobby mojo going to make some real progress this weekend. However I do have the new Spacemarine and Necron codexes arriving tomorrow, so who knows what will actually happen …
1) Interacting with creators (YouTube video makers, game producing companies etc) – how is your experience with it?
Can’t say I’ve interacted with creators on any level, except by giving them money for goods.
I can’t imagine going gaga over anyone famous either.2) It’s October, have you started getting all the Christmas presents?
What’s this Christmas thing you talk about ?
Is that the scam created by an impostor who claims to live on the North pole instead of a castle in Spain ? 😉3) From the ring of the alarm clock to full throttle, how long does it take you to get up to speed after waking up?
In the good ol’ days I’d swear it was like 5 minutes, although that didn’t include interacting with anyone except food …
These days it takes at least half an hour to get to a somewhat awake state in which I run on auto-pilot ’til I get on my bike and the cold weather awakes me.Also … need to think about doing something for Orktober as well.
It’s a shame GW didn’t do anything.October 10, 2020 at 4:54 pm #1573534- Interacting with creators (YouTube video makers, game producing companies etc) – how is your experience with it?
Erm. Patchy. Some people think their video channel/twitter feed etc. is their only means of communcation and are super-responsive to any and every comment – this might be brilliant, or it might be a banal copy-and-paste response.
- It’s October, have you started getting all the Christmas presents?
Absolutely. We’re so sick of this year and constantly dealing with one f@*king thing after another, we’ll try anything to try to bring it to a close early. So whereas I’m normally grumpy about anyone even mentioning the C-word until mid-December, I’ve embraced it this year.
- From the ring of the alarm clock to full throttle, how long does it take you to get up to speed after waking up?
About six minutes. And that includes oblutions. Mrs Blinky can get up, make a brew, tidy up, and come back to bed. As soon as my eyes are open, I need to get up and get going. (we don’t have an alarm; most days I’m awake from 8am-8.30am irrespective of whether I go to bed two hours before or four hours after midnight.)
Pledge – seriously, what’s the point?! I’ve blown just about every pledge I’ve made in recent weeks. From “finish my KITT diorama” to “don’t start another project” I just can’t seem to keep to them. Maybe this week I’ll just pledge to eat more biscuits? (we just did a “big shop” and I’ve plenty in!)
Music
I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that I actually quite like quite a lot of country music. Especially when it’s played like this.
Oh, I finished my Wildhearts group this morning.
“Print your own heroes” said the HeroForge website. So I did. Now I’m printing a drumkit for the 28mm Ritch Battersby to sit behind and a couple of Marshall stacks for a diorama.
October 10, 2020 at 6:21 pm #1573548We’re so sick of this year and constantly dealing with one f@*king thing after another, we’ll try anything to try to bring it to a close early.
Totally understandable. Though we all live with the false impression that after 31st December “everything will be back normal”… it won’t. 2021 will suck balls to for some time I’m afraid.
October 10, 2020 at 8:02 pm #1573550You’re absolutely right. But Mrs Blinky and I have felt it especially this year – we’ve been putting off New Year month-by-month and it hardly seems worth celebrating right now!
In Jan, she was chased off the road by an articulated lorry, fell off her bike and cracked two ribs. Four weeks recovery. “Let’s start our New Year in February!”
In Feb, the mother-in-law was sent to hospital and the home refused to take her back; we spent much of the month trying to re-home her. “Let’s start our New Year in March”
In March the old girl died. “Let’s start our New Year in April.”
We all know what happened from mid-March onwards (in some countries, it started much earlier. Here in the UK, our powers-that-be were still in denial until the 23rd). “It looks like May and June are a write-off too, let’s have New Year in July.”
In July we managed a day out to visit family as the lock-down was eased. The car blew up on the way home. “F@*k it, August will be our New Year.”
I’m not sure what happened in August, but in September we officially called our New Year started, and went to Cornwall for a week’s break in the campervan. We’d only been gone two days and Mrs Blinky fell out of the van and broke her pelvis.
F@*k you 2020. So the sooner this particular year is over – irrespective of what the next on brings – the better!
October 10, 2020 at 8:36 pm #1573558October 10, 2020 at 9:47 pm #1573587This week’s pledge is to finish milestone one for my Dweghom. I just finished my first unit of 12 Hold Warriors. Full project entry here: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1567993/#snav
- Interacting with creators (YouTube video makers, game producing companies etc) – how is your experience with it? – The closest I’ve come is posting comments on your Unofficial Hobby Hangout Twitch streams.
- It’s October, have you started getting all the Christmas presents? – Nope. I used to aim to get them all sorted in October but in recent years I’ve slipped closer and closer to Christmas.
- From the ring of the alarm clock to full throttle, how long does it take you to get up to speed after waking up? – About 5 minutes or so. I’m a morning person.
October 14, 2020 at 12:15 am #1574448October 14, 2020 at 5:19 am #1574471sooo….. you’re going to make your own and that is your way of telling us without triggering Mrs. Blinky?
October 14, 2020 at 10:05 pm #1574771But it has to make noises as well, Blinky!
In other news, I finished Sansa Stark. I’ll upload to my project in a bit and when I do that I may put one of the pictures here, too.
