    ### Start of shameless copy & paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy & paste ###

    Questions:

    • Why
    • When?
    • What for?

Can’t think of anything today. It’s Friday and in approx. 2 hours my week off starts. So please excuse my upcoming absence from the forum the coming week. Time on the PC will be drastically reduced.

    Woot Friday!

Well I’ve got quite a few more hours than you to go till the work day is done but it’s on the horizon none-the-less!

Before getting to this weeks pledge @sundancer I had a chance to finally check out some UHH and they’re a lot of fun.  I like the low key chat about the hobby and various projects.  I did need to make a clarification/correction though. You’d highlighted one of my Frostgrave project in one of your sessions and were giving me more credit than I deserved.  There’s an early post (first or second) where I discuss models I’ll be using and I had put in studio shots of some minis I’d ordered (since I didn’t have them yet).  Those were painted by the Alkemy crew not me.  Since that time I’ve gotten the mini’s in and have some shots of my versions, I’m pretty sure the differences are apparent :).  I thought I’d stated it as such in the text but I’ll modify during my next update to make it clearer.

Ok with that cleared up this weeks pledge will be twofold.  First to keep on trucking with Frostgrave minis.  Down to seven (four of those being multiple ghouls) NPC mini’s left to have almost the who main rule book worth of critters painted up (will still be missing two I don’t have mini’s for yet).  The second part of the pledge is to figure out what to do for a Spring Cleanup project and get that started.

Why : Because unlike in the movies the little men won’t move themselves so we have to do it for them and they’d feel embarrassed running around all grey.

When : Well whenever I can.  I find conference calls are a great time to fit in some painting though while watching The Weekender, XLBS and perhaps now the Unofficial Hobby Hang out is ideal.

What for : For me gaming allows for all sorts of puzzle solving and creativity.  You get social interaction, tactical problems to try and solve and use of (hopefully) creative tactics.  Painting and terrain building then add a whole new facet to allow more artistic expression and creativity.  Oh and then there’s all the fictional or historical worlds you get to discover.  Maybe this ended up being more of a Why 😉

Edit : Oh and happy vacation!

Why? Because I love the song and it seemed a shame to rip just the last few seconds of it for a cheap gimmick, so I made a full-length “press-and-hold-to-play” version.

    When? This week

What for? a birthday gift. It’s going in the post tomorrow – just hope it survives the journey!

[EDIT] Pledge: I’m straight on with yet more technical wizardy – yet again as gifts (though I might just make an extra one for myself, as I don’t get to keep many of my own inventions!). So to get this week’s freshly-printed mini painted up and integrated with some teeny tiny electronics.

Here’s your music. It’s not dark or creepy or spooky. Quite the opposite:

I pledge to think about having a pledge if I get time…or if we’re being more realistic if I decide I just don’t want to write papers anymore and paint. 😛 Going to be a bit busy for me this week but I will try and pop in when I can and see what everyone is up to. I envy your week off, @sundancer …I could do with one of those… 😛

    Questions!

    Why?

Because they’re first years and we have an excess of them anyway.

    When?

Probably 4.6 billion years ago…give or take a Tuesday…which would be tricky because we hadn’t invented Tuesdays…

    What for?

Because sanity has long since left and I don’t think she’s coming back this time. 😛

    Have some Hoots!

    Hails all,

Just finished Griff Oberwald and his grass is drying as I type this so pledge for the weekend is The Mighty Zug, star player number 2 for my team. I’ve also had the welcome news that my Forgeworld order from January has finally shipped. So my extra players and cheerleaders are on the way. Hopefully they’ll arrive as I finish Zug.

This weeks pledge is to finish the AdMech models I started last week. As predicted they’re slow going because of all the fiddly AdMech bits and the wings.

Then I’ll start a spring clean project. On that topic, I was wondering if anybody would like to help me decide what to do. I’ve got a few possible options but can’t decide which to go with. Options are:

    • A Kingdom Death Monster playthrough with some 3D printed terrain being painted up and thrown in. In reality two months isn’t enough time for a full play through. I’d only be able to do one lantern year per week most likely.
    • Working on a Celtic army with a fantasy twist. I did a lot of research for it about a year ago and bought the models, but never started working on them.
    • Finishing off my AdMech force that I started at the 40k Hobby Weekend.
    1. Why? – Why not.
    2. When? – Always tomorrow.
    3. What for? – No reason.

    Happy Fri…no Saturday. I’m late.

My pledge, to finish some Oathmark skeletons I’m doing for Frostgrave, maybe paint some more resin scatter terrain for Frostgrave.

I’m also planning a converted scenario for solo play, The Silent Tower in which the goal of the game it to clear out the tower which will become the warband’s base for future games. There’s going to be a troll on the roof, wraith and skeleton guards to clear out, and rats in the basement (of course). But the warband had better hurry to get inside the tower first because the longer they spend outside the more creatures will show up.

    The questions;

    Why?

Because I really like playing in the Frozen city. It’s also an excuse to just buy and paint whatever fantasy miniatures and terrain I like.

    When?

Since almost a year ago when Osprey made the first edition rulebook and the solo rules available for free as a pdf. I’ve spent a small fortune since, I guess giving stuff away for free can pay dividends.

    What For?

The sense of adventure, treasure and the depth of knowledge hidden away beneath all of that ice. It’s a whole magical ancient city to explore. Just make sure to take plenty of Kendal Mint Cake.

@sundancer At last! Now I don’t have to worry about that extra hour with cross-atlantic communication! 😛

@danlee I’d vote for Celts; Celts are fun.

I got some painting done last night. I’m going to start a new ‘general’ project with it for two reasons:

    1. My current project has been running for a year and is getting a bit full…

    2. The mini I got some more paint on is the same one that started the last project…I’m good at things and stuff… 😛

Anyway, here’s the skin done and some of the cloth/leather blocked in.

Keep having to crop the pictures to get them to fit into the maximum size for forum posts… 😛

@crazyredcoat great work on the purple hair.

I’ve finished the pteraxii skystalkers (I have to google their name every time). They’re really slow to paint (for five infantry) because of the intricate wing designs. I’ve glad I only did one unit and left the second unit undercoated. It would have been very laborious to work on more in one go. https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1427037/

Thanks, @danlee ! I’ve got more paint on the mini now. Should have been writing a paper, decided I don’t wanna. 😛 Might add an update to the new project, but I also might wait until she’s finished…haven’t decided yet.

@sundancer I’d go with Space Bats in honour of their ancient ancestor. That’s a real thing…look up Space Bat.
