Got my Stark Bannerman done, and the project post is up and ready! Pretty pleased with how he turned out. The only change I have to make is to increase the grey look to the wolf designs…mine are a little too black which is not ‘correct’ but also a little boring to look at.

    Good morning, everyone.

Pledge for the weekend: I spent most of Saturday building the next scenario of Battle Carry Sabot – creating an armored clash between Israeli Merkavas and Magach-6s and Syrian T-72M1s and BMP-1 APCs … 10 June 1982, Operaton “Peace for Galilee.”

Sunday:  Run the game with @damon on live stream, starting at 7PM UK.  Maybe step out for some air-conditioned miniature golf with the girlfriend after the stream (if I’m not exhausted).

    Questions:

Almost done: how are you holding up in week #2 without your fix of Weekender and LBS?
My weekends are totally crushed.  I am sorry to say I haven’t seen an episode in way, way too long.

Do you take care of yourself? It’s getting hot in the northern hemisphere and you need to stay hydrated.
Heat comes with the territory in South Florida.  It’s been unusually dry for June, which means we may have a bad drought during the upcoming dry season (we don’t really have a “summer” and “winter,” more of a “wet season” and “dry season”).

If you could take a peek behind the curtains of any given (hobby related) company …
We’re not really a “company” but we kind of live behind the curtain with Sitrep Podcast, three shows a week.
    That’s literally all my hobby.
I’ve been behind the curtain from the years I worked with BoW / OTT.
I wouldn’t mind picking up some new tips on video production and live stream, to be honest.

I don’t really have any pop or rock music to post, but if you’re playing a wargame in the Middle East, a fun track to have in the background …

The title to this thread was “sunny days are here”.

Well, since returning from “up North” it’s done nothing but rain down here on the south coast. And it’s gone really, really cold. Like “should we put the heating on?” cold on one evening! And it’s all since the wind changed and started blowing “the weather” down from the north. I wish the sentiment was more metaphorical, but since coming back from Stoke I’ve had a funny tickling which has developed into a rather annoying cough…..

When I moved to Brighton over ten years ago, my friends used to laugh at me and say “nothing good comes from up north”. I’m starting to think I’m with them on this 😉

Covid test booked for tomorrow. Here’s looking at you, living room walls (for the next ten days). Still, I guess that means no excuse for not getting any painting done now, right?

Got my priming done but then over the course of the evening completely changed my hobby plans for the next few weeks. A friend of mine is doing a 24 hour stream for MacMillian cancer support in a few weeks as his family have relied heavily on them over the last few years, esp right now. This will be the third stream he has done so in addition to helping behind the scenes and staying in his chat, I’m trying to get together a sneaky charity auction to donate some extra cash to him. Being sneaky and organised are not my strong points but got to have goals in life right???

Anyway, the primed models are some kitbashed French Napoleonics for the skirmish game Forager. Largely the models in my Perry box that were meant to be the skirmishers or musicians so they’ll be perfect. Forager I picked up after seeing the publisher Stand To Games mentioned in a thread here a few weeks ago. We’ve been looking for a <10 model Napoleonic game for a while so this was a good pick up. It isn’t the most professional publication but the rules like a bit of fun

Next I finished off the last of my Frostgrave female soldiers sprue. We’re planning on a wee Frostgrave campaign to get us back into the swing of gaming once Scotland opens up to it (Edinburgh’s number are particularly bad right now) so getting these done in time for that would be nice.

Never really played the actual game, but the Command and Conquer series really did have some great tunes, @oriskany. Great soundtracks for playing games.

@ninjilly looking forward to seeing those minis all painted! Loving the poses on those Voltigeurs! (I spelled that wrong WAY too many times before I looked it up)

@blinky465 I lived in Scotland for 3 years and while there’s usually trouble around our Scottish cousins, it’s also usually a lot of fun. 😛 Hope you fail that test real hard, mate. 😛

I was thinking about what I should get up to next for hobby time…but It’s getting really close to the point where I should think about packing things away… Still haven’t gotten a place to move, yet, but I only have 11 or so days left before this house gets vacated… We’ll see what I get up to. Maybe time for one more mini, so possibly more Bolt Action, maybe?

Bolt Action FTW! I have some plastic WWII soldiers here I got off the front of a magazine (Wargames Illustrated or Tabletop Wargames or something) and fancied trying out some “speed painting” to see if  I could get six models painted up in a single evening – leaning heavily on contrast paints and drybrushing of course!

Pics of some Bolt Action minis would be great for inspiration 😉

Just realised I haven’t joined in this week. Here goes –

How are you holding up in week #2 without your fix of Weekender and LBS?

I think I’m doing ok as it happens. I stayed pretty much “offline” while we were playing on the narrowboat last week and realised I spend a lot of time online just “killing time” instead of doing anything productive. Sometimes it’s nice, but I realised that it’d become habit. So I’ve been trying to keep busy actually doing stuff anyway, so not really noticed the time flying by! (this may or may not be a good thing)

Do you take care of yourself? No. I’m an idiot. I should. But going out for a coffee or an ice cream when it’s too cold/hot doesn’t really count does it?

If you could take a peek behind the curtains of any given (hobby related) company and see what it is “inside the machine” that makes it go tick where would you like to look at? I’m always fascinated by the “cottage industry” type companies, rather than the big boys. So I’d probably want to spend a few days with someone like Hasslefree Miniatures or Heresey and see the whole end-to-end process of designing, sculpting, casting, marketing and finally selling tabletop miniatures. I loved spending a few hours with Ben at 4Ground a few years back – really fascinating stuff! I can’t imagine GW being particularly interesting: “this is where a crap-ton of stuff arrives from China and that’s the door we send it out of”

Pledge – finish my vampire woman and any other minis I haven’t painted their hair black because I don’t know how to do it; just finish all my minis that have solid black hair and put them on the “done” shelf.

Here’s your music. It’s more late 80s soft rock!

I’ve got a fair few Bolt Action pictures lying around somewhere. There’s a bunch on my project log but there’s also a bunch of other neat projects out there with nice pictures; the Stalingrad one is pretty neat. Which chaps have you got? Germans? Yanks? Brits?

    US infantry – https://www.wargamesillustrated.net/free-bolt-action-world-war-ii-us-infantry-frame-with-wi380-june-where-and-when-to-get-your-copy/

I’ve also got the Band of Brothers boxed set here that need assembling and painting up too (which is why I thought I’d see if I could batch them in six or so at a time, otherwise the thought of painting the entire box set is a bit daunting! Knowing I can get through them all over a week or two will give the confidence to get started!)

I’m not sure if I’ve remembered right, but I think John might have done a painting tutorial on some Yanks years ago. I know he did a German infantry one. Not sure if you’ve ever heard of Pete the Wargamer on Youtube but he did a ‘quick paint’ guide for US, too. Here’s the vid he did a while ago:

Pete’s pretty good with faster guides and they would probably go even faster with some of the contrast paints. Not really sure if you were looking for tips or anything…but I find looking at what others have done really helps to make your own painting go a little smoother. 😛

@crazyredcoat thanks, they don’t hold up to an up close scrutiny as they are a hodge-podge of arms but they’ll be good enough for Forager. Started to put some colours on them last night, hopefully get them done by Wednesday night.

@blinky465 feel you on the too much time wasting online. I realised the other day that I’ve slipped back into the habit after being good for a long time. Bolt Action is usually a good shout. As CRC says, Pete’s tutorials are good, as are Sonic Sledgehammer’s. He usually offers a couple of stopping points according to how much time and effort people want to put into each model. He also did a contrast guide to US Infantry not too long ago… wait, that was nearly a year ago???

    Some Tuesday tunes:
