### Start of shameless copy & paste ###
Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy & paste ###
Questions of the week:
- What’s the worst pain you’ve had to endure over a longer period of time?
- Finally having some time off, motivation drops sub zero, what to do against it?
- What year is this?
July 17, 2020 at 10:11 am #1550988- Burnt my fingers years ago. Could only fall asleep when having a “deep freeze battery” in my hands. (These plastic things you freeze to later put into your pick-nick cooler for drinks)
- How should I know? I’m asking!
- 19zeventybelch…. something something… or, as other have called it, this is the real Y2k problem year
July 17, 2020 at 2:36 pm #1551035- Sciatic pain, on my own in my old flat, couldn’t move until my missus came home hours later. I have long term back pain but that was the worse.
- I just change projects or watch a movie in the genre I want to play/paint and I’m off again.
- Isn’t it 1998 or have I missed something?
July 17, 2020 at 3:12 pm #1551037Pledge is to keep going with my Highlanders (probably going to be writing something like that for the next few weeks to be honest). Hope to get the first batch done by the end of the weekend or just after, and then get started on a second batch.
Questions:
1. Worst pain is probably a migraine, but typically gone in about 24 hours.
2. Motivation can be driven be lots of things as such reward, recognition, challenge. Conversely, a lack of those things can demotivate. Different people place a different weight on such factors, and it is probably worth having a think about what factors drive your hobbying.
For me personally, there’s few things that help me keep motivated:
- Changing my mental narrative so that hobby activity always has a positive spin, and that I don’t think about it as a chore. For example, don’t think that you have to paint these six models because of your pile of shame is immense – better to think that you want to paint six models because you enjoy painting or really want to see what they look like as finished figures etc.
- Making hobby a habit. Have an evening or two every week that is your hobby time. Doesn’t matter what you do, but make it part of your routine and you’ll find that you’ll gravitate to it and will keep making progress on your projects without a conscious effort.
- Think about setting goals to give yourself a sense of accomplishment when you’ve achieved them. Make them sensible and realistic, and think about having a reward when you’ve ticked them off.
Finally, don’t feel bad about wanting to step back and take a break for a bit. It can be very healthy to change thing up for a bit rather than banging your head against a wall.
3. Too easy to write the year off as the Pandemic Year. Got to try and keep some positivity especially when things are challenging. So I’m trying to think about 2020 as the year I changed jobs and the year my daughter starts school.
July 17, 2020 at 3:19 pm #1551038I’ve been quite busy this week. So much that I didn’t even realise it was Friday again. So I haven’t posted pics of success yet; but I will do – just when I’ve got back from having a little swim in the sea 😉
Questions:
- What’s the worst pain you’ve had to endure over a longer period of time?
I cleaned out my motorbike exhaust with caustic soda many years ago. Bunged the curved end, held the other upwards and poured in a pretty concentrated solution of caustic soda. The pressure build-up caused the bung to burst out, and I got it full in the face and eyes. That was pretty painful.
- Finally having some time off, motivation drops sub zero, what to do against it?
Go for a walk. It’s really that simple.
- What year is this?
It feels like 1 BC – before catastrophe.
Pledges: I finally got DOTT finished, so will post photos when I get a chance. Glad to get that one off my books. I’ve been printing a load of cyberpunk dudes from Art of Mike Patreon. I think there’s five currently on the go. Getting those painted up should be an achievable aim for next weekend, shouldn’t it (hey, not all of us need “pushing out of our comfort zone”). Oh, and I’m working on a collab. piece which will introduce more pointless tech into some minis – but it’s not quite ready yet.
Music:
Hey, it’s summer, the sun is out, it’s time for some happy music (yes, the artic is on fire, a global virus is slowly wiping us out and very few people can see beyond the next six months, but screw that: sunshine = funtime)
July 17, 2020 at 5:20 pm #1551053Worst pain I’ve had to endure: as a teen my younger brother, he followed me around and was a real pain in the neck 😉
Motivation wise….. coffee or beer works well
What year is it; God knows…
July 17, 2020 at 5:34 pm #15510601) What’s the worst pain you’ve had to endure over a longer period of time?
hmm I honestly can’t recall.I know I have a nasty scar to prove that I was in an accident, but (a) I was a kid and (b) I don’t remember any of it and I’m told I ran into a moped.
I think I’m glad, because the scar is “down the river” on my right arm … so it must have hurt like hell (and I must have been seriously lucky in hindsight).Isn’t it funny that sometimes you only feel pain if you see blood after cutting yourself, but never during ?
2) Finally having some time off, motivation drops sub zero, what to do against it?
I’d love to know that one as well. I think @scribbs has advice that sounds reasonable.
I’ve tried to do something similar in the past, but I haven’t had the motivation/time to build myself a little hobby space.
So I’m kind of stuck between wanting to do some hobby and not having the motivation to prepare the space so I don’t have to do that again …3) What year is this?
It’s the year 0 or maybe it’s 1 ATE (after The Event(tm)) … not sure yet.
It’s kind of weird remembering all the stuff we used to do before The Event!!(tm)
I’m sure historians will find a suitable stupid name once this is over and done with …New package incoming … not sure what it is yet and they’ve spelt my name wrong.
So that’s going to be interesting.Desperados III is an interesting little video game.
And bit of gameplay footage from the first levels :
The level where I had to blow up a bridge was huge and sort of consisted of 4 main objectives :
– cross the bridge
– get the dynamite (two locations)
– make it go boom
– escape …
All characters have their own unique skill/use. I think the current level is the first time I’ve had them all under my control at the same time. It is a really cool.July 17, 2020 at 6:29 pm #1551061My pledge for this week is to paint up a Kingdom Death Monster Gorm and associated survivors.
- What’s the worst pain you’ve had to endure over a longer period of time? – I’m quite lucky in that I’ve never really suffered long term pain. A headache that lasted several hours is about as bad as I’ve had.
- Finally having some time off, motivation drops sub zero, what to do against it? – That hasn’t happened in a very long time. With the kids taking up so much of my time I never have trouble motivating myself to use the little time I do get.
- What year is this? – The year everything changed…
July 17, 2020 at 7:20 pm #1551070My copy of Devils’ Run RPG and associated goodies arrived …
I’ve got a few more including a big rig, but those need assembly.
I initially thought the plastic tube I got was just random filler material, but it appears to belong to the big rig and fits as the fuel tank. 😀July 17, 2020 at 7:35 pm #1551077So I will continue to work on my Champion and Standard for the Umbers, but I may make an excursion for new paints next week, so maybe some more will happen, too. I have to pick my courses for uni on Monday Morning at around 6am because my school hates me…
Questions!
What’s the worst pain you’ve had to endure over a longer period of time?
I have headaches that last, on and off, for months at a time. so there’s that. I also probably broke my hand once and just carried on lifting and such without getting it seen to. Does that count?
Finally having some time off, motivation drops sub zero, what to do against it?
I have no idea, but once you work it out, do let me know…for a friend…
What year is this?
Well, if you consider the Earth to be 4.5 Ga then it is almost certainly later than you think it is.Some music from one of my favourite bands!
July 17, 2020 at 10:38 pm #1551111What’s the worst pain you’ve had to endure over a longer period of time? Being forced to sit thru the euro-vision song contest
Finally having some time off, motivation drops sub zero, what to do against it? Assume a curled up position and whimper
What year is this? 1919 part duxJuly 18, 2020 at 3:22 am #1551119Got a bit more work done. All the cloth/leather is done, now, so it’s mainly the weapons and faces left.
I should have a new post regarding what has been done so far up shortly on my project.
