    Good morning.

It’s Wednesday but it’s also the first day of work this week.

Have you all survived Halloween? If not raise your hands.

I’m almost done with my Frosty Gravy Terrain (Need to upload pictures tonight) and the Secret Satan is also almost done.

    Now, coffee and work!

I guess this turned up in the YouTube playlist a bit too late for you @sundancer?

I quite like this guy. Everything he does looks achievable but without spending days and days at it. His slap chop videos are what got me back into mini painting about a year or so back.

I had a random holiday day today which is just as well as terrible insomnia hit last night and I only got two hours sleep. Today was mostly doing very little, finishing off the last of my current batch of skellies – delivery of my new mobile and the bonus arrival of the OTT Silver Bayonet prize pack made an otherwise meh day much nicer.

Managed to get a ticket for Clash of Kings 2024 – the biggest Kings of War tournament in the UK – so it is time to start planning a new army. As much as I love my Feegle project, which is overdue an update, it is a bit too counts-as for tournaments I think.  I’m not a tournament person but I want to give it a proper try next year.

Not seen him before but seems like some interesting videos.

A bit late but useful for future reference.

    DONE! Ruined town is done!

Stone cold town ruins in the snow

Also my Secret Satan is done but for obvious reasons will be shown on Christmas!

    This is so satisfying!

Well done – both pledges done! The terrain is looking good, I love a Frostgrave table. Dare I ask when you’re getting a game in?

Ask and thy shall receive an answer:

I have no bloody clue! Never played it one. My plan was: getting all stuff done (terrain, map, minis. Check) re-read the rules (next up) and then gently persuade my friend with who I play Battletech on Thursdays to give it a go XD

Could be at then end of November. Could be sometime 2024. I hope it’s before there is a Version3 of the rules XD

    Also: good morning everyone!

Another Raging Heroes model done. This one was one of the larger monsters, so I went with a simple Contrast Paint approach.

This is how most of my plans for getting people into new games looks too! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you to get to it sooner rather than later. It is a fun game. I know it gets a lot of hype for the campaign elements but we had a lot of fun just using it for one off games over a couple of beers.

@danlee another cracking job on the RH models. How are they to print?

Pledge: Finish up some Crooked Dice pulp minis that have been languishing in a state of “in progress” for several weeks now.

Playlist: in the mail today I received a neat little (actually pretty big) ‘zine called 1986 — it’s a sort of scrapbook collection of advertisements and news clippings related to the US comic book industry, all from 1986. Inspired by that, I’m listening to albums from my music library that came out in 1986. I have a pretty wide taste when it comes to music, so it’s everything from Beastie Boys’ License to Ill (admittedly not their best work), to Love and Rockets’ Express to Skinny Puppy’s Mind: the Perpetual Intercourse. Normally I listen to audiobooks or Big Finish Doctor Who stories while I do hobby stuff.

Questions: I don’t plan projects out per se, but I frequently have to order stuff for overseas delivery since I’m in the US, so that can require a bit of planning, or at least patience. Miniatures games aren’t all that popular here in the States so there aren’t really events for any of the games I play. Similarly, most of the games I’m buying stuff for aren’t terribly expensive, so I don’t really need to “save up” (although I have started playing Shatterpoint which is pretty pricy). My miniatures purchasing tends to be spur of the moment, impulse buys rather than anything that’s been planned for.

    Morning. Friday at last!

@jeffersonpowers it’s fascinating to see how “divided” the world is in regards to minis. North America has it’s companies and games (Westphalia, Catalyst), same with Australia and adjacent regions (Traders Galaxy, Battle Kiwi), Europe (Freebooters, Knight Models) and then there is the UK & Ireland. “WE HAVE ALL THE BEST AND YOU CAN’T HAVE ANY!” XD

Now for some coffee and then the final stretch of work.

WE HAVE ALL THE BEST AND YOU CAN’T HAVE ANY!

What can we say, the hubris of Empire sits deeply in us! We do balance it out nicely by having a hellscape of political and economic bullshittery that means we can’t afford to eat, let alone buy minis from all those glorious companies.
Happy Friday everyone! The radio plays after my alarm every morning and it is amazing the impact that the songs I hear in the first half hour of the day has on my mood for the pre-work part of the day. This morning was pretty great:

I’d be remiss not to also mention the raffle for Space Ducks which is in its final 36 hours. It is for an excellent couple of causes, raising money for Campaign against Living Miserably (Calm) and UK survivors of bereavement by suicide (UKSobs).

    The prizes are:

1st prize 4000pts+ Space Marines on the theme of rubber ducks

2nd place prize Leviathan Space Marine half painted by Patrick of the Painting Phase

3rd place 4 fire teams painted by 15 hobbyists

4th place art pieces and commission by @grim_dork_comic

The raffle ends in 48 hours and has already raised enough for 62 Calm Calls and a peer support group at UKsobs funded for a year. If you can contribute, tickets are only £3 each and can be found here:

    ·         If you have an idea or get inspired: how far ahead to you plan your projects or do you just start?

Plan enough to feel like I’m doing what I want but don’t over think it coz no plan survives first brush lick.

    ·         If there is an event coming (tournament, show, convention) and you’ll be participating as player or giving demos how much work do you put in and how far ahead do you plan?

Usually none but I have to drive over 100k to get a Twighlight Imperium game on Sunday morning and the distance alone has inspired me to research factions all week.

    ·         Sudden announcements of thinks happening a year in advance: when do you start saving up?

I’m spent , both fiscally and spatially so trying not to think about buying into more games.  Just planning on covering my recent Iron Maiden tickets and painting the last few years spring cleaning. If anything I’ll replace a broken FDM printer, if I find the right sale, and then make preps for next years terrain fest.

    Ah the 90’s soooo good

@gorram I always print their pre-supported files and usually if anything goes wrong its the printers fault rather than the files (e.g. FEP film worn out). Once or twice I’ve had a base file which is a mirror image of what it should be. I just used a plain base but normally you can see on their website that when a problem with a file is reported it gets fixed.
