### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

### End of shameless copy and paste ###

Questions:

• G’Wullu shares more details on The Old World. Are you tempted?
• G’Wullu also is taking pre-orders of a reprint for the Rogue Trader rule book. Are you tempted?
• How is your Secret Satan progress?

And now back to the show.

My pledge: Get on with the Secret Satan project and maybe even the other bits and bobs that clog my desk!

Answers:

• Nah. If I ever want to go down that route I’ll build and paint my 6th edition box and be done with it XD
• I was looking at it but it’s 55€ for a book that will be looked at once maybe twice and then just take up valuable space. I think I’ll pass.
• Could be better. Could be way worse XD

My pledge is to think about doing an N gauge railway/skirmish board…

As for my answers… afraid they’re all a bit negative this week.

I was interested in the Old World when it was first announced, but it’s take them so long to do anything that I have lost interest.

Not into 40K and a decades old Rogue Trader book really doesn’t interest me as I have plenty og books I’m not using and don’t need another.

And I’m not a secret satanist…

Flames of war

• I have two planes for flames of war I need to glue together and at least prime before next Sunday.
• 3 Grant tanks that also need to be built and primed before next Sunday

TerrainFest

• Finish off the city walls
• Paint some barrels and Gravestones for the City
• Build and prime the tower/gatehouse for the walls
• Start painting some of the houses

G’Wullu shares more details on The Old World. Are you tempted?

Very excited about the old world coming back. I have an original Bretonnian army but never got to complete it with all the models I wanted to. The new models shown today look amazing I cannot wait.

G’Wullu also is taking pre-orders of a reprint for the Rogue Trader rule book. Are you tempted?

Yes sort of. I have an original copy of the book but the pages are starting to fallout. I would like a new copy and retire the original one for safe keeping. However at 40 pounds I need to think on it.

How is your Secret Satan progress

Painting things for other people is too much stress for me in case they dont like.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Pledge this week is a little light as I’ve got a cold and energy is hard to come by. I’m getting started on something for TerrainFest though not what I had originally planned. So I guess the pledge is to make a project on the project system and publicly commit to something.

Questions:

• G’Wullu shares more details on The Old World. Are you tempted? I watched the live show as usual and I enjoy the pomp and ceremony of it all. As for being interested in the game, that’s hard when we know nothing about it. I’m interested in the minis for sure but looking at them I just thought “they’d be great for Kings of War”. Maybe once we know more, I’ll become interested. I’m sure if it picks up locally, I’ll dive in regardless.
• G’Wullu also is taking pre-orders of a reprint for the Rogue Trader rule book. Are you tempted? Yes but only because I haven’t been in the hobby long enough to own it already. It’s priced pretty much where I thought it would be and the pre-order runs until after payday.
• How is your Secret Satan progress? Not involved.

I’ve mostly been catching up on my Youtube Watch Later list while being a fever couch slug. However as it is the time of year, here is a little music for the weekend:

Old World:

would really like to have a proper Warhammer game again – can’t stand the Sigmar stuff; I sold off 10 armies when Sigmar happened.

Rogue Trader:

a little tempted … 6 month shipping? Not impressed with that. I used to have the original hardcover, along with all the Realm of Chaos and Ork books, sold them. So do I want to tempt myself into getting that lot back again? Not sure. I’m thinking on it.

@guillotine If you haven’t gotten in by now it’s too late. People have been paired and addresses shipped. But there is always next year!

However at 40 pounds I need to think on it.

@redscope Same.

Pledge this week is a little light as I’ve got a cold and energy is hard to come by.

@gorram conserve your energy and focus and getting better. 🙂

6 month shipping? Not impressed with that.

@grantinvanman yeah it’s a bit long but it’s not to much of a surprise. G’Wullu is waiting for ordering the print run after all pre orders are in and then the usual part of production starts. Since there shouldn’t be the need of any proof reading it’s just a visual test on how do the colours look. All in all reasonable though could be faster. Especially at that price range XD

It’s Sunday, the XLBS was nice paced and I need to remember to screen grab some Lloyd bits for later reference. Now coffee and cake!

This week’s pledge is start one of the Warhammer+ miniatures. My 3D printer is still broken which prevents me continuing with the Raging Heroes models.

1. G’Wullu shares more details on The Old World. Are you tempted? – I might pick up a cool model to paint if one takes my fancy, but I don’t game anymore these days.
2. G’Wullu also is taking pre-orders of a reprint for the Rogue Trader rule book. Are you tempted? – I have the original I bought off eBay back when I was in my “collect everything off eBay” phase.
3. How is your Secret Satan progress? – It’s ready to ship as is, or I might paint it up if time permits and the mood takes me to.

I have seen the video from The Army Painter and I might try one or two when they hit retail which is still some time out if I understand that correctly.

Pledge: working on Mordheim board + Mordheim Warbands……..also my wife finally watched some videos covering SHATTERPOINT and now we are starting to working together on SHATTERPOINT.

Questions:

1) G’Wullu shares more details on The Old World. Are you tempted?

Answer: having recently been bitten by the Mordheim bug, I do find myself for the first time wanting the OLD WORLD EXPERIENCE. I recently bought the Warhammer core book that came out after the Mordheim’s launch.

2) G’Wullu also is taking pre-orders of a reprint for the Rogue Trader rule book. Are you tempted?

Answer: I still have my original. Its very worn but still all there.

3) How is your Secret Satan progress?

Answer: shhhhhh (it’s supposed to be a secret)

.@sundancer I did my best by not lifting a finger to do housework all weekend! I did manage a little hobby but mostly just lay on the couch, snoozing and catching up with YouTube. Got my TerrainFest project started though so pledge complete ✔️ Did you get to your bits and bobs?

.@blinky465 meh, I like that AP are seriously addressing their reputation as a paint manufacturer over the last couple of years but I’m not enough of a painter to get excited about a new paint range. I buy the paint I can most easily get a hold of in my local shops – mostly GW and Vallejo though one has recently started with Two Thin Coats but I haven’t been in since – if one of them carries it, I’ll give it a try. I do wonder if this is them lining up the original AP range to put taken out back and shot.

I had today booked off work so I’ve been starting in on (another!) new project and listening to the second of the new Zahn authored Thrawn trilogy audiobook.

@gorram – I was wondering where Army Painter sat in the paint line of things, but I think this new paint range sets them apart quite nicely. Fwiw, I got their Mega Paint set about 10 years ago and loved it. Dropper bottles over stupid Citadel paint pots any day. Their reds and yellows never covered particularly well – though that’s the same for many other ranges too – but often you’d spray your mini with red/yellow primer anyway (and touch up mistakes by painting white then reapplying whichever colour).

Where AP really excelled was their “good enough” style of painting – it used to be slap on a base coat, and some strong tone and call it done. Then they kind of got distracted with the everyone else releasing paint ranges and offering different things to different types of painters, to get “silky smooth gradients” and golden-demon-level results. AP could never compete on that level.

Contrast really has been a game-changer in recent years (and, even more recently “slapchop” – no matter if you hate the term or not, it really has been like a revelation for many). And – for me – Army Painter speed paint (even the v1.0 stuff) is just nicer to use than Contrast. It’s hard to say why – it’s just nicer to work with. It feels “silkier” and more “flow-y”.

I’ve gone from being thoroughly fed up with painting “the old way” (base, wash, re-establish base, highlight, details) to loving knocking out minis using a “slap-chop-plus method” (slapchop + edge highlights). Painting Space Hulk genestealers with speed paint is fun (and they look great with human flesh base + speed paint purple). The idea of doing the same “the old way” left me feeling cold.

So with all that in mind, and the number of paint ranges aiming at the “pro painter” market (two thin coats, vallejo etc.) I’m really interested to see AP getting back to their roots – simple paints, used simply, to create great looking minis in a relatively short time. I’m really looking forward to using their new super-pigmented paints as my highlight colour(s) – if there’s one thing that still drives me crazy it’s that if I do finally manage to paint a nice, crisp, clean edge highlight, I don’t want the colour to fade out or become blotchy in the middle of a stroke, because the paint isn’t fully opaque.

My current method is black primer then grey zenith from rattlecans (I still can’t get along with an airbrush).
Then drybrush with white for a slapchop-like base.
Colour-by-numbers with speed paint.
Edge highlight with a really good, strong, light-but-vibrant opaque colour. For me, these paints will fit in perfectly here!

@sundancer – a lot of your midweek posts revolve around just work and coffee.
Have you thought about getting a hobby? 😉
