Good Lord I heard Justin was unwell I had no idea it was that serious. It is difficult to believe it is the last person you would expect to get that news about. I wish him all the best in his recovery.

My pledge is flames of war British Tanks. I failed to finish them at the end of last month but we have been making progress I have 4 or 5 tanks and 4 jeeps to do this week. The key is not to get side tracked by other projects which has been the main problem.

Alternative minis: If a game is meant to be played with specific models (like Warhammer and Battletech or Star Wars: Legion) how often do you find yourself replacing ‘official’ models with alternative skulpts?

I will say quite a bit. I tend to use proxy models which are pretty close to the actual model and often along side the actual models. For example if playing 40K guard I might field one unit of Wargames Cannon Fodder models. Or for flames of war I have plastic soliders troops or Zvezda tank models which I mix in.

I believe in buying models because it helps the people that create the games systems and keeps the hobby shops going as well. So I dont have a problem in buying the offical models but I like to have something different and unique in the force as well.

Do “Lets Play” videos have an effect on you when it comes to making decisions on purchasing games?

It does and they are very useful however it can be a negative well in terms of sales. Slaine for example I did buy after watching the videos on the game which was a positive.

I have to admit a few games I watched sometimes the game can see complex or just a bit dull. It has complete turned me off from the game completely.

I am interested to see the Blood and Plunder one for example. Aspects of it interest me the whole setting is to my taste but I am curious how the battles plan out. If they have ship to ship fighting with boarding actions or is it just standard battles on land.

I also wish they would send Ben some games maybe solo ones to play. I feel sorry it is always just Gerry doing the videos all the time.

Battletech: Alpha Strike or Classic? Which do you prefer?

None… I am sure I will get hate for this but the game has never been any interest to me. I played the PC games the idea of the game could be amazing. The aspect that puts me off is the scale. I 100% get it is the right scale for that type of game but these tiny little robots to me just does not capture the battletech. I want a Imperial Knights scale mechs with arms I can swap over and guns that plug and play into sockets. Moving around tiny robots at the current scales does not feel right. That is just me personally but I have never played the game so dont judge it on my words.

I haven’t tried painting while on a stationary bike, but I sometimes watch/listen OTT videos while exercising. And yes I wear lycra while on the bike so not miles off from what @blinky465 wrote ?.

    @guillotine  you monster! XD

I want a Imperial Knights scale mechs with arms I can swap over and guns that plug and play into sockets.

@redscope I get that. And Catalyst have some “prototypes” in a larger “museum scale”. I  think they are planning on doing something with them but don’t hold me accountable on that. I think with Adepticon and the new Kickstarter around the corner we might get a surprise.

Right, time to prepare for the uHH

Pledge? Well I need to do more work on this lot:

    Q1: Proxies?
Funny old thing but as I’ve realised I’m probably never going to play in Games Workshop store or at one of their events, I’ve become a lot more willing to use proxies & 3P parts in my projects. And I say this as someone with 4 distinct Imperial Guard Imperial Guard armies on the go.

But I also can;t resist if a Proxy can cover for a unit that’s either difficult to get or non-existent…..

Q2: Do Lets Plays influence you?
    On occasion, yes.

    Q3: Alpha Strike or Battletech?
    Both? Both. Both is good.
More seriously I love that there are so many ways to get into the Battletech tabletop experience nowadays, and the 2 systems let you experience it in distinctly different ways. I do though think that, for all the strengths of the 2 Player Starter, A Game of Armoured Combat and Clan Invasion boxes, the Alpha Strike starter box might be one of the best introductory products you can buy today.

It is Friday and we eagerly await the new Weekender.

One thing I’ve noticed the last few days:

We have and increase of spam accounts but at the same time they get killed faster (after I’ve called them out) and some old threads get a second lease of life. Which is odd but good.

Could bots be good for the forum? Discuss! XD

Clearest example of thinning paints I’ve seen. My previous attempts been less successful, that’s why I started using contrast paints for textured surfaces.

Sheesh, late to the party as usual but still here with beer… and vodka (of course).

Pledge: Keep painting and posting (and not posting) things

Alternate sculpts vs. Official ones: I like what looks best. It really depends on what appeals visually and if I feel the urge to kitbash what I want.

Let’s Play influences me slightly on the playing. I’ve got so little time and few friends to play with I’m more devoted to hobby over game.

Classic v. Alpha Strike Battletech… I’d have to play them both. Classic was only a single game as a mass intro and it was a total wash event. Alpha sounds like it’d be easier as far as engagement and getting into the action but with less epic opportunities for victory or catastrophic failures.

It looks like the 10 hr shifts might be done for a week or two so hobby time it is. Giftmas production is in full swing as are other things. The Spring Clean means that I’ll be fishing out some of my projects to get work on. Its all just hobby butterfly syndrome as I throw things at a wall.

As I remember someone saying last thread that he was looking for music of the time I offer the following as it is much more relatable than filk music (yes a real genre).
