### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Questions:
- What was your personal first contact with the Star Trek universe?
- Which show is your personal favourite?
- If you could be any one character in any of the shows or movies for a day in that universe who would you want to be??
And now back to the show.
July 1, 2023 at 9:32 am #1826186Pledge: trying to find time to paint. Currently a lot of family apointments ruining any planing.
Answers:
- My first contact was actually ST:TOS when I was around 10. A rerun on public television (ZDF) in the mid 80ies. Loved it to bits!
- That’s a hard one. I really wasn’t liking TNG at first but it grew on me. DS9 and Voyager where also nice and I love the take on “Enterprise” with all that “we do not know what we are doing but let’s give it a shot” mentality. Over all I think I like TOS the most. Maybe because there is no overarching plot line you need to follow. It’s an episode and done. Most of the time.
- Cyrano Jones. Trading with tribbles and just making the world work XD
I need to get back to doing laundry so no music just now.
July 1, 2023 at 1:56 pm #1826220Pledge: well I have many projects to choose from but I do believe I will start a new one. Because it’s the fourth of July long weekend I’m starting a ships build. I’ve been buying 1/700 scale WWII ships. Lexington, Yorktown, Hornet, and the big ‘E’ Enterprise. I also have the IJN Kaga. Also the USS New Orleans heavy cruiser. Still looking for affordable destroy models.
I’ve been planning a backyard by the Garden sea battle. Coral Sea and then Midway. But also other sea battles of the time.
I’m liking the 1/700 scale since Warlord got me hooked on that with the ‘Black Seas’ ships.
I have yet to pick a rules set for ‘Battle in the Backyard’. Anyone have any suggestions?
Questions:
What was your personal first contact with the Star Trek universe?
Answer: Saturday afternoon reruns. I was still in lower Elementary school at the time and we ‘nerds’ went on away missions during recess at school. We were even allowed to make Phasers during craft time in school. Try to do that now a days!
Which show is your personal favourite?
Answer: It was always TOS. Simple with hope for the future. But…….I think Enterprise now. I like that filling the gap between now and the TOS.
If you could be any one character in any of the shows or movies for a day in that universe who would you want to be??Answer: Captain Archer (but Kurk is a close second).
July 1, 2023 at 3:16 pm #1826240Trek Original was my first contact… but as I was born in 64 it was repeats.
Enjoyed Next Generation the most.
Never really thought about being in the trek universe before. A sensible answer would be Spock as I’m fairly logical (and mostly human)… the less sensible answer is Data in the episode ‘The Naked Now” as he got to sleep with Tasha Yar 🙂
July 1, 2023 at 8:49 pm #1826334- What was your personal first contact with the Star Trek universe?
While living with my nan and uncle for a short while, complaining how the original series was rubbish (when it came on BBC2 around about teatime and my Uncle John loved it – almost as much as his chips and egg!). - Which show is your personal favourite?
I’m not really a fan, and haven’t seen all that many different series, so it’s hard to choose a personal favourite. The series I have most affinity to is the Next Generation, simply because my house mates in the early 90s loved it and played various VHS tapes almost on repeat. I have a particular fondness for TNG because of the memories it evokes, not particularly because of the quality of the show. - If you could be any one character in any of the shows or movies for a day in that universe who would you want to be??
I saw a guy called Q who was an absolute dick, but being able to do some of the things he did would keep me amused for every minute of those 24 hours.
No laundry for me today, I cycled 10 miles to see Indiana Jones at the cinema. It was a great bike ride (especially the coming home bit, with the wind at my back; going wasn’t so much fun). The film was predictable to the point of tedious. And went on for about two-and-a-half hours (it felt longer). But, in a weird way,
I quite enjoyed itdidn’t hate it.
Laundry day tomorrow for me. And housework. I get to clean the bathroom. Yay.I’ve not pledged for a while. But I’ve not really done much hobby lately (unless you count buying stuff – which I think we did last week, so I’ve actually done loads of hobby). So maybe it’s time to pledge finish painting up my Blood Bowl team? (at least seven of them, to play the new GutterBowl).
Here’s your music:
Big hair? check. Poodle perms? check. On stage smoke and cars on fire? Yep.
Hot blonde girl in skin-tight leather? Awesome guitar riffs? Meaningless lyrics?
Yep. We’re firmly back in the 80s with this one. Enjoy.July 2, 2023 at 7:50 am #1826414Been a while since I last popped in here.
My hobby pledge is about using my miniature painting skills for some different projects. My son’s Lego Destiny’s Bounty has been on his windowsill and the dragon emblem on the sails has been bleached by the sun – so repaint that in red acrylic.
My mum has a couple of garden ornaments – Kingfisher and Blue Tit that have lost all their colour, so repaint those.
Finally, my old Alien3 model which has been kicking around, broken for 20+ years really does need fixing and a new lease of life – so that’s on the books too!
Mine is this kit, but not this photo!- What was your personal first contact with the Star Trek universe?
It was probably watching (and sorry!) not enjoying TOS as a kid. I absolutely adored TNG when it started and had a massive crush on both Picard and Troi.
- Which show is your personal favourite?
Definitely TNG, closely followed by DS9
- If you could be any one character in any of the shows or movies for a day in that universe who would you want to be?
Some really good, strong contenders and I’d say Deanna Troi, Jadzia Dax. But for a day, just to have the MOST fun – Captain Phillippa Georgoui
July 2, 2023 at 7:54 am #1826415July 2, 2023 at 4:38 pm #1826456@holly – what a great tune! I don’t think I’ve seen the video before, but what a great song – the video, however, is a little more… questionable?
July 2, 2023 at 8:23 pm #1826457@templar007 Archer is a cool choice I think
@pagan8th Data and his plug… you naughty boy! XD
@blinky465 you wouldn’t need to be *that* Q. His whole race could do things.
But, in a weird way, I
quite enjoyed itdidn’t hate it.Well, I’ll wait for the DVD release then. XD
It was probably watching (and sorry!) not enjoying TOS as a kid.
No need to apologize about that. TOS wasn’t a kids show after all.
Captain Phillippa Georgoui? That’s a really weird choice @holly
But your choice of music is nice! 8)
Now Sunday is almost at an end, the XLBS was really something different. Derailed but on track *har har har*
Still haven’t done anything hobby related. I’m slacking. But I also don’t care at the moment. 3 more workdays and then it’s “offtime” for me.
July 2, 2023 at 8:43 pm #1826470@blinky465 what do you mean by the video is questionable? It’s basically a documentary of schools in America during the 80’s! ??
@holly classic Van Halen is always a winner! Also, thanks for reminding me that I too have some of the Aliens models stashed away. Now adding them to my white board to work into one of my build nights. Also as a side note I have been thinking of painting my Tyranids in a Xenomorph style that I’ve seen a few times on YouTube channels here lately.
@sundancer ‘Cyrano Jones’ you say. Now I can’t unsee Cyrano Jones with your mustache. Great mustaches make a for great man!
July 3, 2023 at 7:23 am #1826485“Moustaches maketh men” XD
It’s Monday. Last working Monday for the next 3 weeks! HUZZA!
July 3, 2023 at 10:07 am #1826519@blinky465 It’s very much of its time, that’s for sure!
July 3, 2023 at 2:02 pm #1826525My hobby pledge is about using my miniature painting skills for some different projects
I love when it turns out at we’re not all just wasting hours and hours on pointless nerdy things, and our skills are actually transferrable to something “useful”. My wife recently discovered how vibrant some of my Pro Acryl paints are compared to some of her enamels. Especially once coated in a high-gloss varnish. So last night we had a right girlie night in, and she had me painting her toe nails!
July 3, 2023 at 2:23 pm #1826527In progress, just like colouring in:
And all finished, ready to put back onto the Destiny’s Bounty:
