### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- Sudden darkness. The power is out and there is nothing you can do about it. How do you do hobby? Painting with Candle light? Reading rulebooks with a flash light under your blankets? Do you even do hobby or do you just wait for civilasation to come back?
And now back to the show.
January 22, 2024 at 5:53 am #1859069My pledge: to keep working on my latest video project. Some may have noticed a “weird sounding” video on my YouTube channel. It’s a sort of kind of almost Spring Clean thing. To get the juices flowing again.
Answers: If there is daylight I might still do terrain building but surely no painting. Mostly I’d be busy eating and drinking all the things in the fridge that are going to go bad soon. Other than that: reading or playing board games.
Music!
Noticed a trend? 😉
January 22, 2024 at 8:03 am #1859071I am pledging to get back to my Vikings and their ship
January 22, 2024 at 8:24 am #1859072Pledge is continue my project.
Lights out reminds me of my childhood. When we had a power cut back then it was candles and playing cards with the radio on.
I loved a power cut… got the family all playing games.
In the 80’s I played games with a group and there were times we were in the pub with no dice… we still gamed with no gaming props… random numbers picked in our heads and compared… you can always game… with or without light!
Hobby in the dark is tricky.
January 22, 2024 at 6:32 pm #1859231This weeks pledge is to paint up my Dungeonalia terrain, having finished prepping it after the advice I was given last week.
Sudden darkness. The power is out and there is nothing you can do about it. How do you do hobby? Painting with Candle light? Reading rulebooks with a flash light under your blankets? Do you even do hobby or do you just wait for civilisation to come back? – I take the opportunity to do something else until the power come on. If thigs are a bit more catastrophic and power never comes back, assuming I still have luxury time, hobby would have to be done during sunlight.
January 22, 2024 at 8:32 pm #1859254I haz awoken from my slumber … 😀
Sudden darkness ?
That would enable total panic mode … way too dependent on modern thinks like computers to survive that.
I’d be one hot meal from barbarism I think.I was supposed to be priming my Iron Maiden busts ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kontraros/iron-maiden-collection/description ), but got distracted as I reallly need more light for my airbrush-station thingy. So I’ve been to the local DIY store for some 32 mm PVC tubes and to the blue/yellow scandewegian store for a few smart lights to add to that frame.
Music you say ?
(it’s all about that bass … 😀 )ok … one more
January 23, 2024 at 5:49 am #1859312Tuesday morning. Stiff winds are blowing. Age is showing. Cycling to work is boring.
And exhausting.
Love all your answers. Play with family is a nice one. I tend only to think of myself when formulating the questions.
January 23, 2024 at 9:42 am #1859347Lights out? Early night. Or toasting marshmallows over tealight candles.
I used to live on a narrowboat and got quite used to amusing myself with little or no “powered entertainment”. Playing cards by candlelight can be glorious. In the theme of “doesn’t-require-electricity-to-play” I’ve hit a few snags with my Head-over-Heels-on-the-tabletop project.
Namely that I’m coming up with some puzzle-y rooms that I think will transfer well to a roll-and-move board game (check out the project blog for justifications, I’m not going through it here!) and some of my best puzzle-rooms have floating blocks. On the cards for each room, I’m showing the height of the floating blocks (it’s not always obvious from an isometric perspective) and as I’ve played these through in my head, I think they work. But I want to put something down on the tabletop. Which has left me wondering…..
….. how do I make the blocks float?
I could maybe use clear flight stands. But then walking under them would be tricky. So maybe little clear stands on each corner?
Over to you guys? If I wanted a block to float “three squares up” off the floor – how would I do that? Here’s your music. It’s The Bites again. I’m really enjoying their album
January 23, 2024 at 10:36 am #1859406To make an object float… Q would change the gravitational constant.
George Lucas would use repulsorlift technology.
If you have walls high enough you could attach a support to a side wall.
Possibly bend some clear plastic to have two right angles and ‘float’ the block on top of that.
January 23, 2024 at 11:05 am #1859421Over to you guys? If I wanted a block to float “three squares up” off the floor – how would I do that?
I’d go with the 4 stands in each corner. Or use one side with a clear plastic card.
January 25, 2024 at 6:08 am #1859816And just like that it’s Thursday.
That calls for even more Music!
January 25, 2024 at 7:38 am #1859818Just like my week – that took a while to get going. Then there was a bit of a lull around the mid-point before finishing strongly.
I’m back on the road again this weekend, so probably won’t have much time for hobby between now and Monday.
But I’ll try to get some stuff assembled when I get back – my Dungeonalia entry won’t build itself, you know!January 26, 2024 at 5:56 am #1859939Self building terrain. Like the self transforming Optimus Prime and Grimlock? Looks cool but takes away some of the joy of playing.
Anyhow: Friday! And dang it’s needed. Working with some people sometimes is really… “exhausting”.
January 27, 2024 at 12:52 pm #1860104My first Dungeonali project is done. I have a second small one I want to squeeze in to February.
January 27, 2024 at 9:56 pm #1860128Finally a bit of progress … 32mm pvc tubes from the local hardware store assembled into some sort of framework.
It doesn’t look pretty, but it does get the job done (I hope :D)
All I need to do is attach the lights, because unlike what the photo suggests that is too dark for painting.ooh … I sort of managed to finish it and turn it into a project of sorts :
Then again … I got an entire house to plan anyway and I have already reserved one room for hobby and another for my computer. (there ain’t no kill like overkill 😀 )
