And a few more
December 31, 2022 at 12:58 pm #1794673December 31, 2022 at 4:39 pm #1794685In November I had a bad cold, not the flu… had that once… felt crap for three weeks and lived on grapefruit… didn’t feel like doing much with flu, but with a cold I could hobby.
In December I got covid for the first time… when I had the fever I couldn’t hobby… can’t paint when your hand is shaking… possibly dry brushing I guess, but didn’t try… you can watch youtube videos about hobbying though.
Once the fever passed I felt off, but that gave me plenty of time to hobby.
January 1, 2023 at 11:08 am #1794903Nice to see you back @pagan8th At least I hope that posts tells us you’re back again?
2023, first coffee in hand and I already regret some 2022 decisions… like accepting a “paint 15 minutes a day in January” challenge from a fellow German YouTuber…
Why did I do that?!
January 1, 2023 at 11:14 am #1794904January 1, 2023 at 11:20 am #1794915What I meant was: I hope you’re feeling better now and are feeling like doing hobby again 🙂
January 1, 2023 at 3:27 pm #1794974Not sure where we stand right now with timing of the threads. The holiday season completely wrecks my sense of time.
Once normality resumes my pledge is to paint up a Raging Heroes print, as part of this year’s hobby resolution (https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1794968/). I’ve got three models printed I just need to cure them then select the one to paint first.

Is this regret about something you did/didn’t do last year? Or something you pledged (last year) to do *this year*?
Are we going to do this thing again? 15 mins a day for a whole month (I think last time it was thirty, but just any amount of painting each day is a start!). I loved sharing stuff in the forum post last time – even if we weren’t all painting together, it made painting feel more like a group activity, simply because people were sharing their progress. Can we do October again please?Once normality resumes….
I can’t wait for a bit of normality. And to get a few hours to just sit and zone out and put paint on a few minis – would be nice to get a few finished soon, since I completely blew my pledge to get the half-painted ones finished by the end of last year!
I think I’ll start 2023 the “right way” and have an hour this evening, licking brushes. Then try to repeat each evening ’til the end of the month. Anyone else get some fresh paints off Santa?
January 1, 2023 at 5:13 pm #1794980My fellows, I think you lot are right about kicking off hobby the right way with a little everyday. For the moment I’ll jump in while I have the time as well and start on the yearly mischief.
My pledge for the new year: paint an army (it might really just be to finish that one I’ve been on about for the past three ?).
January 1, 2023 at 8:13 pm #1795000Or something you pledged (last year) to do *this year*?
That one. And I already did my 15 minutes today! Huzza!
paint an army
Three figures and you have a crusade? XD
January 1, 2023 at 8:27 pm #1795001I’ve spent about an hour tidying up my painting desk and putting all my paints back into colour/shade order. That counts, right? (or are we talking actual “painting, painting” here? I guess I’d better slap some skin-tone down on a few faces, just to be sure…)
January 1, 2023 at 8:43 pm #1795010Well……………………..to all my hobby friends…….
You lot have inspired me over the years.
I’ve watched you make pledges year after year and meet, exceed, and sometimes fall short but always bolster each other up and push each other with kind words and helpful tips.
I feel I need to make a pledge of my own in order to push myself further.
.so here goes….
.
I have only one pledge that I want to make for 2023 and that is to finally publish some video content to share with you all.
Many of you have done it already so I’m hopeful that you will understand my anxiety in putting myself on tape even when I still doubt if it’s any good.
So there it is. At least once a month but I’m really hoping to do more.
(why do I already have butterflies in my stomach)
January 1, 2023 at 9:27 pm #1795016@templar007 – this is great news! A few years ago I used to run a regular “nerd blog” which was all text and images -I never quite could bring myself to appear in a video. Then I did. And I hated it, and never did it again.
But after almost a year in a new job, with daily video conference calls, appearing onscreen doesn’t seem half as daunting. And now my work’s intranet is littered with videos featuring my dulcet tones as I pop up on the screens of any bugger who needs a bit of help with the new systems we’ve built over the last year or so.Hopefully you’ll find the same experience – after the first two or three (which you’ll surely look back on and cringe at in a few months/year’s time) – it won’t be quite so scary! What a great idea – a monthly “blog” of hobby progress. That would make for a brilliant (semi-regular) forum post….
In fact, as this unofficial weekender post seems to have gone monthly since December, maybe this would be a great place to point us towards your videos as they go online? And if anyone else fancies a video round-up of what they’ve been up to, it’d make a nice little archive, just between us!
January 2, 2023 at 6:16 am #1795080Recently bought my first airbrush and beginning to experiment. I like the effect on larger models, but for small minis it seems tricky to use for doing anything more than priming.
I still have a number of rattle cans that I need to use up which I use for priming and when it comes to priming units I prefer the can to do it quickly.
Hopefully I’ll get better with it. Bought some Army Painter Air paints to get me started, but as confidence grows I’ll diluting the other paints that I have.
Whether this will help me get through the pile of plastic is something I’m unsure about, but given the loss of pay I’ve had as a result of strike action I need to spend less on plastic…
