@irredeemable Luckily, she’s not too difficult to just rebase the face and try again. I might try some purple shade for some eye shadow…but the face is not as perfectly sculpted as the Witch Elves for make up… 😛
May 17, 2020 at 12:49 pm #1527356@irredeemable welcome back. It’s Sunday, time for XLBS.
May 18, 2020 at 10:59 am #1527805I can barely keep the paint to the face, let alone try any details.
Had some time priming models this weekend and did some painting.
Obviously very early in my works in progress.
Sunday I played a big game of Hellboy that was a real blast. It was the big mission from The Wild Hunt expansion and nearly everything happened. Finished with Hellboy and Roger slowly sinking in a lava lake, Lobster Johnson firing what appeared to be bean bags, and Liz doing all the work as usual. One boss served flambé coming up.
Some music
1. I’m working from home but very, very bored
2. Keep me entertained!
3.if you have to ask then you’ll never know.
May 19, 2020 at 1:01 am #1528116I finished this lady a while ago (she’s the test model for my Daughters of Khaine army that I still haven’t got…) but this is what I was hoping for with make-up on my Escher. The faces on the Dark Elf stuff is just a little better sculpted for it, though, in my opinion.
The picture is a bit blurry, but you get the idea.
Those Aggressors almost have their silver parts done. Honestly it is such a faff to paint around things with them that they are probs the reason I lost motivation… Once the silver is done, though, it’s details and decals. Still out of texture paint for the bases, but I will probs paint them in black as prep for when I get some.
Have some tunes;
May 19, 2020 at 4:21 am #1528129Oof! So much paint being tossed about. Good to see indeed. Busy busy with evil things in the works (keep an eye out for a vlog entry in the next couple of weeks from OTT … heh heh heh).
Regular work I am glad to report I performremotely. Getting into the new job has been a mixed blessing for getting more time to try and find a place to move into that will allow my geriatric cat. Now some video work about that makeup thing I see worked on. I too have become interested as I’ll need it for some figures I plan I pulling from Hero Forge during their .stl promo sale.
May 19, 2020 at 8:13 am #1528193@crazyredcoat – wow; I was thrilled to be able to paint eyes recently, you’ve got full make-up and slap on there!
May 19, 2020 at 9:43 pm #1528478Managed to spend a few more hours on my Vanguard today. Basecoats are all but done and I got my Nuln Oil wash over the metal. Still in pieces at the moment but once I get the cogs on their chests done I’ll probably glue them together and the start in on highlights. I’ll throw up some proper pictures then.
What are the minis from? Are you using contrast paints or do you normally prime in white?
Eyes can be a misery. I started skipping them out of frustration but last year I tried out a guide I found on Youtube. It involves painting the entire eye socket black, adding in the white to frame the pupil and then repainting the skin detail around the socket to leave just a line of dark shadow around the eye. I won’t say I was 100% happy with the results but I’ve only tried it on three guys in a single squad and while up close it looks a little like they’re wearing eye shadow, at a tabletop distance it makes the eyes stand out nicely.
It’s been a shameless power metal binge today.
May 19, 2020 at 10:41 pm #1528488@blinky465 Thanks, mate, though I would always credit the sculpt with that Dark Elf Sorceress. 😛 I basically cheated by painting the wide eye, adding the blue dot, then the eye shadow using shade (I think…like I said I painted her a while ago now…) I’m not usually that good with freehand, sadly.
May 20, 2020 at 5:20 am #1528559Good morning everybody, I hope you all feel refreshed after a good night sleep 😉
May 20, 2020 at 5:44 am #1528562I haven’t gone to bed, yet! 😛
May 20, 2020 at 9:54 am #1528646@irredeemable- that is some pretty impressive work, the face looks incredible.
I only recently learned to paint eyes the way @crazyredcoat suggests, and I love it! Big blob of white for the eye, dot in the pupil, fix and repeat as necessary until the pupil is in the right place, then paint big black Alice Cooper eyeliner. Finally, some dark skin tone – working from far out, getting ever closer in – to reduce the eyeliner to a thin black line.
@sundancer – up and at ’em! Had a good night last night (though intermittent internet connection is driving me crazy: 48 dropped connections in six hours!) and managed to code up some cross-fading audio to a little game I’m working on this morning, already…
May 20, 2020 at 10:20 am #1528661@blinky465 can you find out if the router is going mental or the actual line is bad? My router (fritz!box) let’s me see the actual quality of my physical line. Helps leveraging some service from my ISP when needed.
48 drops sounds either the router is broken or the line you’re on is on the far end of what’s possible with copper lines…
May 20, 2020 at 11:12 am #1528688@irredeemable they are Holiday Hellboy and Trident Realms River guard Dambuster from Mantic Games.
I tend to prime depending on the base coats and keep an eye out for what can be done with contrast paints. Don’t know what I did before them!
When you say painting your Vanguard? Which Vanguard?
May 20, 2020 at 8:33 pm #1528846@sundancer – definitely a line fault – it’s just the ridiculous way we run our broadband “market” in the UK that’s driving me up the wall. Had an engineer finally turn up this afternoon and he said he’d found and fixed *two* faults on the line.
Since he left everything appears to have been working well. Except when I just came to log in onto the OTT website; then my sodding router started flashing red again for a few minutes….. maybe it was just the line balancing or some other nonsense.
Anyway, I got a few hours in on remote database development (for storing and playing back moves made by remote players) so fault or no fault, I’ve got to plough on. Not much time for hobby this week. Going to zone out for a few hours and watch some hobby hangout videos (fingers crossed).
