If you’re not into serious diorama gaming, there’s always the preprinted 2.5D stuff for the wannabees. 😀

I prefer barrel miniatures to Battle Systems, but, otherwise, BS means more money and painting time for miniatures.

Mini’s by Sally 4th and Reaper.

    Terra Tiles game tiles.

Loke Battlemats fits well with 3D terrain. I can also have a different board setup for each battle!

Corpse miniatures by Tiny Furniture. Terrain by Archon. Miniatures by Reaper.

It’s funny that so many people have problems with Army Painter sprays. The only real problem I had was the recent can of Wolf Grey running out of propellant before being empty. And very few times I had problem with frosting and most of those times can be attributed to “mini not completely dry” or “high humidity” (aka raining outside and spraying in the open door).

All my Star Wars: Legion minis are matt varnished with AP.

It’s Monday morning. Things in the world and in Germany happening that really piss me off but this is not the thread for it.

That’s a very nice looking Setup @ced1106 and I can see that work for most games. But it misses the “I like to build stuff” aspect of the hobby for me. But I can totally see use for that especially the Terra Tiles game tiles.

Only time I got frosting with varnish was when it was too cold.

The cure for the frosting was spray with gloss varnish and then go again with matt. Second time I dried it in a warmer location.

Yeah so the airbrush doesn’t want to play nice. So I had to resort to rattle can. *sigh*

Next steps will be artists acrylics and brushed. I think.  Testing needs to be done.

    And snow. Lots of it.

.@blinky465 I’ve seen Storm of Steel Alex talking a lot about the W&N varnish but not tried it myself yet. My experience of brush on varnish hasn’t been great in the past – I’ve had problems with bubbles – but I’m pretty sure that’s just me not doing it properly.

.@ced1106 that’s a really nice use of the books.

I have several friends who don’t enjoy painting their minis but they do it because they want their army to look decent on the table. That’s how I feel about terrain. I find it tedious to do but I know that good terrain makes the table.

Pledge work for today was deciding that some good models to paint would be a set of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for a friend that I promised a few weeks ago. I got them printed and cleaned up today. I didn’t say anything about painting them up for her but I like the idea of maybe painting them and putting them in a wee display base.

    Good morning everybody.

@gorram At least with terrain you could (potentially, if you have the funds) just buy pre painted terrain or grab a set from Battle Systems. Painted minis is a bit more difficult. Most are unpainted so you’d need to pay a painter.

Tuesday. uHH incoming and I’m pretty much all over the place with painting and building and all the things…

    More coffee needed.

    Morning again.

uHH last night was great fun and extra long’ish. We went on several rants left right and center aaaaand…

Have you backed MAW Moonstone yet? No? Go back it! @avernos needs his stretchy goals! (Even though they blasted through that already)

Nope. But I did go a bit crazy this week and actually back a Kickstarter too. This little tin of delights looks really cool.

I’m looking forward to getting the games (my pledge is for the original + new game) then embiggening the map and playing them with actual miniatures.

That really looks nice. I can see this kind of game be a win for any lengthy trip on a bus or train.

Also: good morning and where has my coffee gone to already… need more.

I quite liked the cute fit-it-all-in-a-tin idea for ultra portability. But mostly I liked that it’s a game.

It would have been really easy to throw a skin over it and add in loads of unnecessary miniatures and add ons and stretch goals.

But with just a few cards and a few square blocks, there’s no hiding a rubbish game behind a load of cool looking minis. The game itself is everything here, and that’s what I quite like about it.

You have to make a decision on each characters turn and what you decide makes a difference – too many “games” forget this! (and just become stand still and roll dice until one side is eliminated affairs).

I could be very wrong about it, but the play through looked interesting (and at £17 a tin, it’s not the end of the world of it doesn’t turn out to be the best game ever invented). And I think playing the same game on a bigger map with minis instead of square blocks could be good fun. The solo play option is also nice.

    Morning,

    I also hate terrain.

However, for the last few years I have been buying, building and painting a wealth of Marvel Crisis Protocol miniatures….

I have also bought some Urban Terrain from TT Combat.

So with that in mind, I am about to launch a whole new project where I build a board.

I have found a company online who will cut some MDF to the size I want – 12×12 6mm thick sections.

12 of these will be around 35+ pounds.

I can then get some Form Board from the works, and make some pavements etc.

I have already mapped out 12 tiles in excel so I know that the buildings I currently have (and the extras I plan to buy) will all fit.

I have watched a few vids on Youtube by Mel The Terrain Tutor (LEGEND) – so I am already to go.

Just need to order all the materials (including 3inch wide sandpaper). I am hoping to start this in November.

Must say, I am equal parts excited and worried! AS I HATE TERRAIN.

    On the subject of terrain…

I’m thinking of getting the N gauge track out of the loft and building a layout…

Today I had a moment of madness and I’m considering making it a wild west layout that I can also use for skimish and/or rpg sessions.

So… where can I find some N gauge scale wild west miniatures in the UK. Mounted, on foot, buildings, vehicles… etc.

    Any help locating sources would be appreciated… and I don’t have a 3D printer…

@pagan8th – that sounds like a brilliant idea. I love western skirmish games (almost as much as sci-fi ones).
I never have any luck printing terrain either on my FDM or resin printers (I guess I just don’t like the look of FDM printed terrain and the resin stuff warps too easily and never quite prints “true” or square).

But I’ve a load of Gangfight miniatures STLs on a hard drive somewhere – if you let me know the height (scale?) I could have a go at printing some rescaled western characters out for you to try? (N-gauge is 1:160? So a 6ft(ish) high character would be around 12mm?). I don’t remember just how detailed they are, they may scale down that small and still be ok?
