### Start of shameless copy & paste ###
Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy & paste ###
Questions of the week:
- How is the weather in your part of the world?
- Miniature painting and BBQ. Can you do both simultaneously?
- How many streaming services are currently subscribed to?
Beep beep!
June 5, 2020 at 8:49 am #1534732- rainy…. and getting cold again. Is this supposed to be summer?
- Nope…. grease fingers and stuff.
- Two. Netflix and Amazon.
Boop Boop!
June 5, 2020 at 9:29 am #1534752Pledge is to paint and finished up a few more Celts, plus start a new project as I am getting a little worn out of painting Celts, so fancy adding something different… so going to start painting up my copy of Blackstone Fortress. First goal will be to start building and priming the characters!
How is the weather in your part of the world?
Start of the week was 24C, today it is currently 11C and unlikely to get much warmer as a north wind is blowing. We need rain though, already talk of a hosepipe ban even though we had a very wet winter, I’m also sick of watering my plants so much.
Miniature painting and BBQ. Can you do both simultaneously?
You probably can, but why would you want to? I’m not actually a fan of what is considered a BBQ over here and don’t understand why people go nuts over it. I find the breaks in cooking as a great time to do a little hobby… waiting for water to boil – paint the skin on a character, also can result in the odd overcooked thing if you get absorbed into the painting bit.
How many streaming services are currently subscribed to?
I’ve Amazon Prime, but I don’t really watch much on it – i’m more likely to listen to a podcast, or watch youtube or twitch.
June 5, 2020 at 10:37 am #1534770Man, it’s Friday again! Where are the days going to??
- How is the weather in your part of the world?
At the start of the month, gloriously warm; as time goes on, more “worryingly” warm – we’ve not had rain for a long time. And even when the weathergirl says “colder and a chance of showers” it still feels muggy and warm out. Warm enough that we’ve been swimming in the sea already – jeez, it was cold, but eventually your extremities go numb and you stop feeling it 😉
- Miniature painting and BBQ. Can you do both simultaneously?
Never tried; now you’ve got me curious. Mrs Blinky and I are talking about getting a narrowboat again. Probably not ’til the end of the summer (I know, timing and everything) but already I’m dreaming of next year’s warm spring afternoons, painting minis by the canalside – I might just set up a BBQ. How long do we have to answer this one?
- How many streaming services are currently subscribed to?
I recently bought Prime so we could have music on “Alexa” on demand. Does that count? And, of course, I joined Duncan’s Painting Academy. I call that my streaming service. Other than that, there aren’t enough hours in a day for me to be gawping at the telly!
Bleep bloop.
Oh yeah… pledges. I printed some not-LOTR minis the other day, just to keep my printer busy more than anything. Lots of swishing cloaks and nice, folded material. I guess I should splash some contrast paints onto them?
Music. Have we had this one?
“If all the people in the world camped out in your back garden, would you write and tell the king or would you grab a tent and join them?” Deep stuff from early 90s pop-rockers Terrorvision. I thought so at the time. It literally changed my view on the world. Simpler days….
June 5, 2020 at 10:40 am #1534772June 5, 2020 at 1:37 pm #1534831How long do we have to answer this one?
As long as you need 😉
I recently bought Prime so we could have music on “Alexa” on demand. Does that count?
Yes, but with your internet being what it is…. does that work in a satisfying way?
where did my photo go?
what do you mean? It’s in both posts…
June 5, 2020 at 3:21 pm #1534848- Raining, no wait! Sunshine…now it’s grey, oh! raining again. Typical British weather I’d say.
- Sounds like a challenge.
- Netflix, Amazon, Disney and the wife subscribes to NFL and Apple.
I’ve got this dinky example to get started, just waiting for my Mechanicus Standard Grey spray to arrive…not long now.
June 5, 2020 at 3:43 pm #1534851Ooooh tasty. I’m waiting for Halfords to have fewer than 12 people in the queue, so I can go and get some black and some white matt primer. I’ve been using them to base and then add a zenith highlight to minis before painting. I ran out of both so tried Army Painter spray primer instead – it’s terrible! Halfords primer is soooo much better, with a finer spray (much less speckling) and “pulls in” as it dries, to keep the details nice and sharp. It makes Army Painter primer look like liquid plasticine! Blobby, speckly and loads of obscured details.
Choose a nice primer for that walker – it’s a great looking model!
June 5, 2020 at 4:04 pm #1534857Decals and shields tidied up plus a Matt varnish.
Got the first two characters from Blackstone Fortress built and primed. I find red plastic hard to see things on, so am sure the black primer will reveal a multitude of sins.
June 5, 2020 at 4:14 pm #1534858@blinky465 I stumped for the Citadel just to follow how Duncan Rhodes did his, was a very nice job, lots of weathering. Been thinking of jumping to Halford’s primers once all mine have run out, keeping hearing great things. I used to use Autotek and got consistantly good results and they come in larger cans. I hear you about Army Painter sprays, I found you had to get the right distance from your models to get a good result and they weren’t all the same distance.
June 5, 2020 at 4:16 pm #1534859Last week pledge complete and I pledge to get paint the logs and apply moss effect. Ferns will be done later.. or while I prime the next thing.
- The weather outside is delightful. But the heat I’d say isn’t so pleasant, atleast after deciding to go on an impromptu 12 mile hike. Sunburned slightly and recovering in finding all the muscles/tendons/ligaments I forgot with not walking.
- Mini painting and bbq simultaneously? Not possible. You’re never going to chew off mold lines line corn on the cob.
- I subscribe to no streaming services as I am entertained by the good graces of other’s subscriptions.
@robert Less distraction and more painting, good plan.
@blinky465 You’re letting your printer cool down? With all the work you do I’m surprised that it even has a chance to stop. Good to see the ‘not LOTR’ minis in the time you fired it back up. The short work with the contrasts will be good to be busy but not entirely overwhelmed with painting.
On priming I’d also recommend Privateer Press P3. The spray is pretty good for mass production. Tamiya also makes a very finely mulled product but in smaller quantity for the amount of use you get from a can. I haven’t used any Mr. Surfacer products for priming but I see so much in the Gundam world I think it might be a trial purchase if I get the urge to venture out of Vallejo.
@flatbattery “dinky”? I think that SW:L has found a way to sucker us otherwise mini gamers into the armor painting hobby. Now, granted, GW has had many on the hook with their vehicles but have they really offered so much pain for the brush painter with flat panels? I’d say that the bog standard designs with small flourishes (Rhinos/Landraiders… etc) were designed to be rattle sprayed and then drybrushed for most people with just brushes. That ATST screams “Panel wash me!” with no hope of doing otherwise.I haven’t added music in a while
June 5, 2020 at 5:37 pm #1534894Happy Weekend everyone. Same pledge again, to make progress on my FoW. At the start of the lockdown I thought I would be able to get 100pts of Brits and Germans done by D-Day, but I got nowhere near that. The Brits are close but for some decals to be made, applied and weathered. The Germans have a little more to go, they just need paint, all the paint, and another box needs bought. So a bit more to do yet.
These are the only fully finished models.
Questions of the week:
How is the weather in your part of the world?
Cloudy and breezy but not too terrible.
Miniature painting and BBQ. Can you do both simultaneously?
A history of spray cans and open fire says I shouldn’t try.
How many streaming services are currently subscribed to?
OTT, RoosterTeeth, Amazon, Netflix.
June 5, 2020 at 8:33 pm #1534972hoo — wheee — ender
‘ere we go ‘ere we go …
Don’t you just hate it when the weather goes *meh* just when restaurants are allowed to open again ?
I guess we’re being punished for something by the big sadistic ol’ doofus in the sky or something. So to answer the first question : it’s getting rainy-ish again … just as I was getting used to warm weather outside.
2) Miniature painting and BBQ. Can you do both simultaneously?
Ain’t got no place to do BBQ … never mind doing anything other than painting.
I can listen to music when painting, but that’s about as multi-tasking I go.oh … and are we talking about proper BBQ with them coals and such ?
Or the lazy-arse-cooking-on-an-open-flame thing that some say is BBQ too, but real people know to be heresy of the greatest order ?3) How many streaming services are currently subscribed to?
Spotify is the only one.ooh … pledge ?
Got to unpack Laser Dungeon kickstarter thingy.
And if all is well I will have Oak&Iron to collect and unpack as well. And of course :
June 5, 2020 at 9:26 pm #1535049Two more Celts basically done, a bit more highlighty than I usually go on the cloak
June 5, 2020 at 9:38 pm #15350631. Getting warm again after a cool spell (so expect to get some extra heat in a week or two Western Europe, just a lowly Ex-Pats gift to the homeland!). I’m not built for heat. I want to be back in the Arctic Circle…
2. My Dad won’t let me play with the BBQ… That’s actually not true, but still… I can bearly focus on painting, so adding in extra tasks would be a hard no.
3. Technically, none. I do watch Netflix on the account at my parent’s place.
Pledge is to get finished on my Tommy Sergeant. I’m half way through the webbing, but after that the rest shouldn’t take too long and I think I’ll move on to an Odin mini my brother gave me a while ago.
