### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- Cooking! Do you cook your own meals? Do you just re-heat pre-made stuff? Does someone else in your household do that for you (and others)? Is the pizza delivery guy your best friend?
And now back to the show.
November 30, 2024 at 4:15 pm #1905413Pledge: Enjoy my new mantic advent calender!
I do most cooking in our house. Most is “following recipes instructions” with a little variation. But sometimes it re-heating pre-made and add fresh sides and flavour. Tonight will be DIY pizza.
Music! Important!
November 30, 2024 at 4:46 pm #1905414Pledge… use the stuff that arrived today… lots of leds, switches and batteries to be combined with the roof of mdf buildings… if work does not drain me of energy and enthusiasm.
I live alone and most of my meals involve opening tins, taking stuff out of freezer and ‘warming it up’.
Although I can cook (not given myself food poisoning yet), I lack incentive when it’s just for me, so usually only make an effort when I have company.
Occasionally I make a curry, chilli, or pasta dish for myself, but comfort food is good (cheese and oakcakes, cheese on toast, chips and almost anything, bacon and something) when I’m not that hungry, or feeling lazy. Working outdoors means I can eat all that crap and not put weight on.
I’ve been waiting for the magic pill that you can just swallow and it gives you all you need in a few seconds as I regard food as more of a survival necessity than something to look forwards too.
Meal times are usually… what’s going out of code today… or what do I feel like eating…
November 30, 2024 at 5:41 pm #1905423@sundancer – I saw Anthrax for the 40th tour a few years back; Black Label Society was who I went for (middle opening band), and I got to meet them, and had my Doom Crew Inc. cut signed by them 🤘
Pledge: after a week that didn’t turn out the way I was hoping, really will prime my Battletech!
Cooking: breakfast is homemade, lunch is hit and miss; supper is made mostly by my spouse, or I will bbq (year round, winter and all!). Also sometimes will uber something, or will more rarely eat out.
November 30, 2024 at 7:57 pm #1905424the thing with food is that I do like eating it, but I’m not a fan of making it.
Especially when after doing all that work it either tastes like ‘meh’ or the time spent eating is significantly less than prep time.I got a standard ‘recipe’ that’s more or less a bit of pasta and pasta sauce. Experimenting with food is rarely a success for me.
I do love a good steak … and I’m kind of getting the hang of it, but it kind of requires me to not try and make something else as well.

Pledge ? I think I shall open the first door on the advent calendars when the time is right.
Now if only I remember where I put them … 😀December 1, 2024 at 1:03 pm #1905495On friday I picked up several Achtung Cthulhu 2d20 products as they were half price.
Today I was browsing for miniatures and saw Dad’s Army and some Operation Sea Lion british that tempted me, but not bought them yet.
However… I now have to ‘lighter’ campaigns ticking over in my mind…
‘Who do you think you’re kidding Mr Cthulhu…’ and ‘Allo Allo Cthulhu’…
December 1, 2024 at 2:16 pm #1905507Sunday!
Had to endure a lot of “slap chop” thanks to @brennon XD
Started making YouTube Shorts again for the Mantic Games advent calendar 8)
December 1, 2024 at 6:22 pm #1905511This week’s pledge is to paint up some space marine characters I 3D printed. Really takes me back 20 years to when I started the hobby and all I did was paint Space Marines.
- Cooking! Do you cook your own meals? Do you just re-heat pre-made stuff? Does someone else in your household do that for you (and others)? Is the pizza delivery guy your best friend? – I get one of those meal boxes delivered every week so I cook those meals from fresh ingredients twice a week, giving me enough food for four or five meals. Other meals I tend to eat pizzas or other similar “just stick it in the oven” food.
December 1, 2024 at 6:58 pm #1905531December 1, 2024 at 9:00 pm #1905557@sundancer They’re Legio Prima Victrix from DakkaDakka (i.e. Ultramarines) so going with they typical colour scheme for them. I’ve never done Ultramarines before. I always used to do Blood Angels.
December 1, 2024 at 9:40 pm #1905564Pledge: get through the next unit of figures
Food stuff, I reheat the premade stuff, get the delivered goods and make stuff from ingredients to a point. I wish to have enough money so I could sharpen my cooking skills and make things completely from scratch for every meal but I would need to be a full time cook for that.
So I swapped out my focus from the Eureka centaurs to the sythyrs (why they sell under that name I have no idea). Day one of the work and I’m glad I did. I’m about halfway done.
@limburger I caught your last post on Christmas and the issue with figuring out presents. Giving a hard deadline to yourself is a part of making the plan. That being said, you’d need to do a lot of work prior and make sure you have slack off time.
In the matter of giving gifts it takes some thinking outside our own skull. General themes can be picked up on but it takes the right amount of jumping to a conclusion from input and insight to make things work. Being a niche hobby, as you pointed out, doesn’t do us any favors either
Now addressing the waiting part I agree that is indeed a sticking point. The delay to get things is a bother. If toys were already predone we wouldn’t care for them as much, our childhood as example is great reference when compared to our current miniature hobby “toys” (we also play with “action hero figures”, thank you).
@danlee Does the advent calendar idea seem more of a manageable idea for gift exchange or something like Hannukah? Does little points of fun over a set amount of time seem better than a single HUGE celebration that ends in food coma?
@grantinvanman The wonder of MTV and the outlet for visual creativity with music it brought us.
@danlee with some Blue Boys going into the collection will yoy round it out with the Imperial Fisting for a primary color scheme to your collection?
December 2, 2024 at 6:00 am #1905596Monday morning. Good. I think.
@horati0nosebl0wer Basic cooking isn’t hard. Like one of the most German dishes ever is BRATKARTOFFELN.
- Dice an onion
- Peel and slice potatoes (300g per serving, adjust to personal preference) Thinner slices make for faster cooking!
- Crack some eggs in a bowl and stir
- Have some grated cheese
How to cook:
- Heat oil in pan (preferably one with a lid and high walls. Do not go higher than medium heat!
- fry onions
- add potato slices and close lid. Let cook until potatoes are done
- remove lid and continue frying until the potatoes start to get brown crust
- add egg and stir. Let sit until egg is done all over. Stir again
- add cheese on top, put lid on for a few minutes.
Enjoy! Goes great with pickled cucumbers. For even more flavour add diced ham with the onions.
Great, now I’m hungry.
December 2, 2024 at 8:25 am #1905603The real skill in cooking is timing all those separate dishes so all is ready at now or less the same time.
That’s why I prefer single pan meals or stuff like pasta where you only need a second pan and there is some wiggle room. Minced meat and pasta sauce is my default. Only need a second pan with boiling water for pasta. Twenty minutes and it’s done.

Black Friday sales?
I’ve got a few western buildings from tt combat, because they had a white box with a few of them and then I added a few unique ones. I think I’ve got enough for a small settlement 😀
I also got 5 parsecs from home and two of the supplements. Digital format, so they only waste space on disk 😉
Oh and I got a few bits from warlord, but those won’t arrive until next year as they are with the armies of Germany book. I think I may have to add a bit more transport to my German force, but for now I think I’m good. Getting things build before I’m distracted by new shiny is the real challenge 😉
December 3, 2024 at 7:58 am #1905729I saved all the money and didn’t buy anything “black something” related!
I feel so good 8)
