June 20, 2020 at 8:25 am #1541307So I can barely believe it but I got some hobby done, last night sleep and me just weren’t getting on so I went out to paint for half an hour or so to see if it would help me wind down (I was struggling to even listen to a full sentence from Andrea without getting distracted) – well low and behold I slipped into hyper-focus and Andrea had to come out and get me at 2:30 am. I have to admit, I do enjoy it when I can slip into that hyper-focus thing, it pretty different from my normal state of mind lol…
So got to this stage…
@sundancer Happy birthday to the little girl mate, have a wonderful day!
@robert You are busting through that Celt project mate really well done! And Jeebus that Candlemass track is a blast from the past!
@blinky465 The paint job on those minis is beautiful mate I love the effect you are getting on those!
@woldenspoons Looking forward to seeing how the clones turn out mate!
@danlee That color scheme is epic mate!
@crazyredcoat Looking forward to seeing the spring-clean stuff mate – I’ma gonna go hunting for it lol
@scribbs Hoots Mon 😉 looking forward to seeing them
@wolfch I love the stuff out of Frogleap studios – cracking choice lol
June 20, 2020 at 11:40 am #1541359Cheers Warren. Still love Candlemass, definitely one of my favourites.
Updated a couple of projects this morning, with the stuff I did last week, now to get on with some painting and stuff.
Music – more doom… but a bit more deathy
June 20, 2020 at 12:23 pm #1541380Here’s a current WIP of the highlanders. Base colours are all done, now onto highlights and the fiddly fine details for the tartan, hat and sock bands.
June 20, 2020 at 2:33 pm #1541442i ordered the Lumineth Realm-lords box , i had bought the voucher when GW had them on offer. i’ve also ordered a Runelord , irondrakes and some longbreards. plus some paints so watch this space next week
June 20, 2020 at 2:37 pm #1541443June 20, 2020 at 7:35 pm #1541503@scribbs Love the Highlanders, mate! Is one the Black Watch and the other the Sutherland Higlanders?
@warzan I hope you like what you find! The Ultramarine one is a little samey, but that’s why the random one exists…for my own sanity more than anything; I too have the focus problem with intermittent bouts of hyper focus thrown in from time to time. 😛
My hussar is primed now, with a stick up his arse to help with the painting. Probs won’t get much work done today due to my family having a get together for the first time since The Event (stay indoors), but maybe some trousers may be done by the time I go to bed tonight…
June 20, 2020 at 7:42 pm #1541504@crazyredcoat the right is Black Watch, the left will be a Gordon Highlander. Hopefully it will be clearer once I’ve made more progress!
June 20, 2020 at 8:06 pm #1541511@scribbs I always forget the facing colour of the Gordons… 😛 Deff looking forward to the final product!
June 20, 2020 at 8:35 pm #1541512@scribbs I will shine with my ignorance….. but what the hell is the difference? I was reading on Gordons highlander not that long ago as they were in the peninsula war and I might get interested into diving into sharp practice
June 20, 2020 at 8:42 pm #1541513@wolfch If I recall, at the wargaming scale the difference would be the peak on the cap; the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders didn’t have one…though that may have only been at Waterloo. In reality, it would be the taping around the buttons and the organisation of the buttons themselves. There’s actually only a handful of facing colours in the army at this point with any units with blue being ‘Royal’ regiments. It’s going way back into my uniform knowledge, but the colours are blue, red (I know that sounds weird but true), green, white, black, buff (a sort of beige colour), and I think one purple regiment. The taping around the buttons has different colours threads in various organisations along with the actual designs of them. It’s interesting, if you enjoy that minutiae, but at wargaming scale kind of irrelevant.
June 20, 2020 at 9:58 pm #1541529@wolfch I look to distinguish the different British line regiments by the facing colours, and picking up appropriate colours. As crazyredcoat says, there’s other small details that differ, but at the 15mm scale, I don’t have the talent/patience to go much deeper. I do find it interesting to have a look though. The drummers can be interesting to look at, as they can vary a fair bit.
Highlanders also have the different tartan patterns. I’m painting the first steps of the pattern for the Black Watch and Gordons in the same way, but I’ll be diverging them now. I stuck a short crib sheet into my project on how I’m planning the two tartan patterns.
The Black Watch also have different coloured plumes to all other British foot regiments. I’m painting skirmishing flank companies, so the Black Watch have a red over green compared to the plain green of the Gordons.
June 21, 2020 at 12:35 am #1541586Pledge for the week: work on my “latest” project as Marumba Marumba! Jungle Jungle Jungle wraps up. Stay tuned for it
Best Batman – Michael Keaton
Best Joker – Damn… tough call between Joaquin Phoenix and Heath Ledger. Both are gritty and crazy in just the right way for the character.Best Batmobile – Ooh.. the largest and greatly overpowered monstrosity that was in The Dark Knight; I will admit though that the one from the 90s animated series was pretty swanky as well
@warzan Those rats are definitely cool. Good to see the ROUSes getting some love
@robert Celts… more Celts… naked Celts… dying Justin and Pundancer and a crazy amount of Celts more for good measure. I can say though that there hasn’t been any posting of the work by the artist Takashi Murakami – My Lonesome Cowboy, 1998. (I will not violate the rule of the thread with images, look that up yourself).
@blinky465 I’ve been sitting back and admiring those Day of the Tentacle figures and wondered if you’d delve into the annals of videogaming again and create a figure from the game Full Throttle. Its got the same over-the-top feel as any good GW orks from Gorka Morka would.
@woldenspoons I don’t know if you were looking for a specific Clone Trooper box but I found some on Miniature Market
https://www.miniaturemarket.com/searchresults/?q=clone+troopers@danlee Nice selection of colors. The contrasting pallette definitely works here. I’m fond of the Raging Hereos sculps and wondered about how that one might come out. Thanks for the pic to see it in the wild instead of the site and a render.
@crazyredcoat Good work and glad to follow along the progress of good work. Thumbs up for the musical taste.
@doctorether I will definitely be watching the WoD cast later.. dinner at the moment
@sundancer Haha! More minimonster fun. Good for you and good luck.
@scribbs Short, sweet, to the point. Good on you.
@wolfch Lol… yes Adam West never took himself seriously. Little tanks and the men that fight them, sometimes that 15mm scale range really can be interesting for the sheer amount of minis but the size still bugs me.
LOL! More funk needed!
June 21, 2020 at 9:43 am #1541638Great work on the tiny angry Scotsmen! They are look great so far.
Got quite a bit done yesterday but the only thing worth sharing is a couple of Newline Designs Celts I got painted up
Music – Some more doomy stuff, but a bit more on the uptempo side. This song comes from a really good album, worth checking out if you like this sort of thing.
June 21, 2020 at 1:19 pm #1541666@horati0nosebl0wer that’s them they are literally the only boxes I have seen anywhere. Of course as you know I am not in the States so not sure what their shipping to the UK is or what currency exchange premium I’d have to pay.
Squad 1 of my Clones.
Hmm picture didn’t come out great.
Just some more white highlights to redo and another white glaze and then the bases. Trying to decide whether to add colours to the squads.
Music!
