Miami  Vice was one of those shows running “in the evening” after 8pm. The others we mentioned so far all ran around 6pm

I think there was an 80’s show about a couple of kids and a robot?

I used to like Metal Mickey as a kid. And I was always torn, after hearing his voice, between not taking the Cylons seriously enough, and waiting for Mickey to go on a murderous rampage (I think there was an episode when he went rogue). What I do remember for sure is that Metal Mickey fizz bombs – those fizzy, sour, bright purple gobstoppers – were the best sweets. Ever.

Candy and sweets from childhood days… containing all the important vitamins… BASF… XD

Speaking of childhood and remembering…. Do you lot remember how you ended up in certain parts of the internet?

Back in the day, before search engines, I used to rely on webrings and usually it was rather easy to trace steps back.

Today? Random recommendation on social media, by a friend or sheer doom scrolling out of boredom. I know I landed at BoW because of Star Wars Legion but most other sites… I can’t remember…

I remember running a takeaway in North Wales in the mid 90s and “hacking” the modem that was connected to the till (which sent daily takings details to head office). A cover-disk Compuserve CD and a 14.4k modem and it was like I’d taken the red pill. Alta Vista and a handful of bulletin boards…. the skies, were a deeper blue…. maybe it’s why I retain a fondness for forums?

I had that at home at 21 (1996) and was also going through Alta Vista, AOL homes and land line BBS…

Leave a message, come back for the replies. It’s like writing letters. It’s slower but more intense. A proper meal and not a thing from the microwave.

At a penny a minute for phone calls (which was considered cheap at the time!) it was really easy to rack up silly phone bills in the early days of the internet here! Hence every mail reader was set to “download headers and disconnect” so you could mark things of interest then reconnect and download just the content you were genuinely interested in.

Like choosing nice food from a menu instead of gorging at the endless conveyor belt of an all-you-can-eat fast food joint 😉

Yeah… my first phone bill was something like… 450€ (700€ adjusted for inflation)

Oh and small companies had a small POP3/SMTP in house server called “hamster”. That would dial in to your ISP every X minutes (or hours) and push/pull all emails.

    Internet flatrates where a revelation!

Base before painting? I think that’s a pretty splended idea. I might have to do this.

    Base before painting?

Aways for me. I like to get as much of the building process complete before painting. Less risk of damaging the painted miniature and the primer and multiple layers of paint helps keep it all stuck on.
The only thing I add at the end is the tufts, static grass, that kind of thing.

I’ve always loved the sound of their voices, almost musical. I’m pretty sure they used the same vocoder. Nothing else has come close.

I always do basing last, myself. Mainly because I use basing paints and it doesn’t matter much if I get a few spots onto people’s shoes. I also like to have the drybrushing kick up on to the lower parts of a mini to get a bit of ground dust on them. That reminds me…I still need to see if I can get some more tufts…

I usually don’t to basing at all XD
