I’m not making anyone do anything…

    …I’m just a little voice in everybody’s head….

We know you’re going to do it anyway @blinky465 … it has been foretold 😀

Time to build a tank … it’s a big one.

Interesting amount of details such as an escape hatch underneath the crew compartment and a door inside.
The instructions don’t really show if that door could move, but at the very least it can be modelled open and closed.

I think the only thing missing are more options …

I was only thinking the other day that I’ve been really enjoying spending time hobbying, painting, soldering, kit-bashing, making dioramas and all the rest – I’m really going to miss it when lockdown is lifted.

So it was with mixed views I watched Boris on telly tonight saying we’re heading for another one – though, if I whisper it, maybe everyone won’t get mad at me for admitting I’m not exactly upset at the idea of it, if it means I can paint some more minis!

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I won the Papsikels painting competition. The prize was to have a miniature modelled. So I sent a photo of my little grandson Elvis

    elvis

And the other day, I was sent a couple of .stl files. The guy did a fantastic job. I printed them and this morning set about a “quick-and-dirty” paint job (as I’m sending him a box of toys and comics tomorrow, so needed to get it finished quickly).

There’s no way I’m even attempting painting all those blue flames on his trousers! But for a couple of hours work this afternoon, I’m quite happy with him:

I have now finished my Iraqi Army armor force for upcoming games / content on the 1991 Gulf War (15mm Battlefront, various sets from Team Yankee and Fate of a Nation).

Next up, Infantry! (ugh …)  I have a box of 140+ 15mm Soviet Cold War infantry I’ll be working on … half of this will be painted as 1991 Iraqi  Army infantry (plenty for this project), the rest will stay as Soviets for various Cold War games in the future.

    Iraqi Armor Finished

First platoon of T-55s I had to do the best I could with T-54s from the Syrian “Fate of a Nation” set. Note the unit markings on the bore evacuators. Apparently that’s where the Iraqis put them (various yellows, greens, browns, sometimes with white stripes). Also added antennae.

A platoon of five BTR-60 infantry carriers. Drilled small holes for the antennae.

Second platoon of tanks. These were kit-bashed into an approximation of Type 59 Type IIs. These were Chinese knock-offs of T-55s … but then subsequently upgraded with L7 105mm rifles and rudimentary laser range finders. So an upgrade of a knockoff? Yeah, weird. But those L7s made them pretty dangerous in 1991.

Second platoon of T-55s. Note these have side skirts, the others did not. Wartime photos show plenty of 1991 Iraqi T-55s with both configurations, some with … some without.

The Iraqi Army had plenty of ZSU-23-4 Shilka SPAAGs in 1991. However, I doubt many of these would be left when then the ground war actually started on 24 February 1991. Nevertheless I have two of them here just in case their USMC opponents will get cute with their AH-1 Cobras and AV-8B Harriers (or hell, F/A-18 Hornets).

The whole Iraqi force.  Next up … Infantry!

Great stuff @oriskany, the armour is looking very sharply painted.

@oriskany always nice to learn stuff about real world military & their vehicles 😀

And of course yet another set of pretty vehicles painted.

Seeing those ZSU’s always makes me think of Suzy Quattro for some reason :

I always want to like Suzi. I love the rhythm of glam music. But maybe it’s just her voice or something. When a video starts, it’s like “oh great, I like this” and by the end I can’t help but think “maybe something like that but better will be on next” 😉

On a similar note – why isn’t the studio version of Michael Monroe’s Shakedown available anywhere? I’d forgot how good he was outside of the Hanoi Rocks

::Pokes head in .. wave wave::: Necromunda terrain barricades finished (I’ll only run the 2.5D game until more books purchased). One intercontinental ballistic mini en route to @danlee . One more mini to send tomorrow. Some commission minis in hand and more hobby stuff than I probably need was purchased. Off to do the things ::pops out::

Thanks very much for all the kind words @sundancer , @limburger , @blinky465 (amazing Star Wars minis from Jabba’s Palace – and congrats on winning the contest!) and @scribbs !
