There is a generic lack of f*cking on the tabletop anyway … not just in the games of thrones variant 😉

I’ve yet to see a rpg mention how half-elves are created.

Or what happens if a dwarf and halfling do the deed.

Seems like the Discworld discussion would be really nice for a round table discussion. Maybe having read the novels only translated left some aspects hard to get but I doubt that. I personally just don’t feel adept enough to create a game/story that I would think worthy of calling it “discworld”.

Example: When Vimes almost goes mental in “Thud!” while he’s underground only thinking of being late for the reading of “Where’s my cow?” to his son despite himself being in grave danger it is still funny when he jells all that what he usually reads and scares the living rock out of the dwarves. That scene hit me on so many levels (maybe because I’m a dad too) that I can only take my hat and bow to the person who had written that.

I’d love to see someone make it work (maybe Rhianna Pratchett can do it) but I can’t really see a way how.

But then again that’s why I am only a gamer not a creator. And also a lousy GM. I paint minis and I throw dice. 🙂

Pretty sure TSR told us in the 70’s it was the offspring of a human and an Elf

Pretty sure the newest iteration of D&D has banned the word race and the phase  (“half*anything*”)

Guess we’re not even supposed to be thinking about such things. ?

I tried 5e but ended up going back to AD&D.

Btw it was Humans and Elves for the Half-Elf.   Human being the element needed for any mix-race.

    Crash!

That’s the sound of me crashing this thread with a completely unrelated subject. But my postie just came knocking…

Will get onto the questions later. Looks like an interesting discussion…

Uh, paints! Nice. Looking forward to your judgement. Do me a favour if you will.

I asked The Army Painter which of their new greens would be the closest match to Goblin Green since my pot is running low. They said it would be “Leafy green” or “Rain forrest”. Could you take a look and make a judgement on this? Maybe you even have the old Citadel paint in your box somewhere? 🙂

@sundancer – I can try. I don’t have any Goblin Green (but I can ask around at my FLGS if anyone has, even for a painted sample). I do have some really old Coat D’Arms paints knocking about (not for much longer, I’m going to have a real old clear out!) and maybe one of those might be a match (I think Coat D’Arms *used to* make Citadel paints, back when Goblin Green was a thing?)

I think so too but you’ll never know. I’ll probably end up buying both just to be sure XD Thanks for the video link

I know the description (half human + half elf), but me wants to know which one has to be the male and female.
But what about the mechanics ?
How long does the mother need to have this thing in her belly ?
Does it drink elf milk or human milk ?

D&D going all politically correct is annoying the f*ck out of me, but at least there’s the likes of Venger out there

Coat D’arms currently own the rights to resell the original paint line that GW used before they switched to in house production. So the goblin green as you can see here is very much the original one.

I have never found out who the orginal company was and it is not Coat D’arms they did not exist until 2004. All I recall is someone mentioned at the time the comany also supplied the british army with the “nato” green they painted the tanks with.

My plegde was to paint more of the these chaps to be honest it is not going well. I say that its just taking much longer than expected.

I am curious how the fantic paints are. I have generally found the Army Painter ones to be cheaper but often lacking in pigment which for some colours would mean the coverage was pretty poor. I did switch over to using AK ones for most the army range just purely because they did historical matches to the colours. Like that makes a difference to 15mm model you play 3 feet away from  lol.

I wonder if the ‘lack of pigment’ is more due to some paint colours being intended to be glazes/highlights as opposed to block colours ?

At least that’s been my idea since I tried to use their lava orange as the armour colour for my space marines. I had to mix in one of their browns (not sure which) to get something that would work. It killed my interest in painting that’s for sure.

The speed paints have been good so far though. And I’ve got a lot of paint that (in theory) should be interesting to use, because I sure as heck intend to start painting stuff for real this year.

Which reminds me … I’ve been documenting progress on my hobby room, so once I get settled in I might even update the project as well.

I’m so not used to the fact that I own a house now.
I really need to adjust my auto-pilot and get used to not returning to my old place, because that’s where 95% of my stuff still is.
And I keep thinking that I only have the weekend to work on my house, but that’s not true either. I had the bare basics already done by sunday, so I really need to pack some clothes and do the rest of the grocery shopping at my new place.

I’ve heard a lot of people having problems with Army Painter but I’ve had their (original) Mega Set for about ten years and never felt like they were any better or worse than any other supplier. Yes, yellows and red are “thin” and need a few coats. But the same goes for Citadel and Vallejo too. I was sold the idea of AK paints, but I found their red and yellow to be the “worst” of the lot!

That said, Army Painter (certainly their earlier paints) suffered from “paint jizz” – often the first squirt from a bottle would be just binder and very little pigment. If you shook the life out of them, the clear goop would appear coloured, but wouldn’t be very opaque at all. So for the very first squirt from a bottle, I’d put a drop onto a paper towel and put the second drop on my wet palette – and found them to be just as good as their rivals.

Then again, even Army Painter recognised that their paints were considered inferior.
Which is how we’ve ended up with Fanatic Paints – they’ve completely re-engineered their entire paint formulation, because of user feedback. And that’s why I’m happy to scrap my old set (which still served me quite well) and buy into their new range.

Their Speed Paints got me loving mini painting again. They’re much “silkier” and nicer to use than Contrast Paint.
As a company, I love what they’ve done. I’ll find out what their actual paint is like when I get some time to sit and paint, later on this week.
