    ### Start of shameless copy & paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    Introduce yourselves (New member thread)

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy & paste ###

    Questions:

    • Why are the internetpeople not yet finished with @warzan new internet?
    • Will they every be finished?
    • Do you have a seperate savingsaccount for hobby expenses or do you just use whats there at the moment?

And now back to the show.

    Quick answers:

    • The hamsters all died in the heat!
    • When new hamsters are trained!
    • Yes. For reasons.

Detailed answer to the last question: Because I’m self employed the cashflow can be “interesting”. So I’ve set myself an amount of money that I put aside each month so when a new wave of minis comes (like it was the case with X-Wing and Legion) I have a little buffer to grab something without having to eat only spaghetti for a month 😉

Keep an eye out for Jason … he might get you if you’re not careful.
And remember : do not split the party

    Anyways …

    1) Why are the internetpeople not yet finished with @warzan new internet?
someone keeps eating the hamsters that’s why

    2) Will they every be finished?
sure … they never said what century though

    3) Do you have a seperate savingsaccount for hobby expenses or do you just use whats there at the moment?

A steady job has its advantages. I’ve got an automatic saving of 250 at the start of the month just to make sure something makes it into my ‘savings account’. If I did the math I probably could save even more, because it’s not like I need to buy toys every week … and I really need all the cash I can save just to afford buying a house (which costs 10k over and above the asking price for the house).

However given that the interest rate is 0,01% at the moment you might as well spend it all.
And on top of that you get punished by the taxman for daring to have anything in your savings account (they still assume a 4% interest rate is ‘realistic’ … )

I think you’re supposed to have a few months of pay in your savings account for as a safety buffer.

What’s wrong with eating spaghetti for a month ?
Cheap and easy food means more money for hobby.

Happy Friday everyone! And happy holiday time @sundancer! I’m off for the next week and the timing is perfect, was definitely getting to the point of hating my alarm every morning. pledge for this weekend is getting back to the terrain for our upcoming Frostgrave games, it’s a mini project for my time off.

Can’t say I have any knowledge of the hamsters current work schedule but what can you do, they work when they want and on whatever they want.

I have a separate account for “fun” budget and hobby spending has always come out of that. Current situations being what they are, nothing is put into it these days. I did treat myself to two Infinity minis and a MESBG mini to balance out the terrain painting.

Now for a holiday appropriate tune and some associated joy:

It’s Friday the 13th? Why didn’t anyone warn me. I guess I’ll just stay in today and spray mdf then.
Pledge – To finish watching  The Expanse before my free Prime subscription runs out on Sunday. Also, to finish spraying and building my space pods for Stargrave. I might even have a project with my progress so far – https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1669262

I also want to finish painting some scatter terrain from a Terrain Crate I got.
Who knows, I might actually get back to painting proper miniatures again next week.

Why are the internetpeople not yet finished with @warzan new internet?

Because he “had an idea” and tried to help.

    Will they every be finished?

Nope, it will be an ongoing project. Only bits of it will be complete.

Do you have a seperate savingsaccount for hobby expenses or do you just use whats there at the moment?

Kind of. I have a rainy day account which I dip into now and again but then pay it back up to a chosen maximum. Being in debt to yourself it much less hassle than being in debt to someone else.

Right. It’s Friday. I’m nowhere near getting everything done I wanted finished by the end of this week. So, of course, I’m trawling the Youtubes this afternoon, looking for cool hobby related content creators I can subscribe to.

It goes without saying I’m got Uncle Atoms Tabletop Minions in my subscribed list (though, honestly, some weeks I do wonder why)

There’s also Shut Up And Sit Down, Black Magic Craft, Miniac, Ninjon, Pete The Wargamer, Dr Faust, Duncan Rhodes, That Mister Shy, Lyla Mev and MidWinter Minis, and a whole heap of guitar-related lessons and canal boating vlogs (which I’m sure many of you aren’t interested in anyway).

There are a probably a couple I’ve missed out. But – so that I don’t have to actually do some work between now and “knocking off time” in a couple of hours – which hobby blogs do you guys recommend?

    Go.

    Ooh, YouTube channels to watch.
I’ve got Scruffy Crow, Always Board but never boring, Battlin’ Barrow Gaming, Sonic Sledgehammer Studios, Goobertown Hobbies, 52 Miniatures, &  Squidmar Miniatures.

There’s also the plastic crack podcast which rotates around 4 different channels and it’s pretty good.

My favourite is Modelling For Advantage as it’s quite funny.

I have ALMOST finished the Sergeant for my Marines…almost. I gave up on doing them all at once so most of them are half finished… I’ll finish him off today and try and get a project post up once I find the right cable. Other than that I’ll work on the rest of the Marines as a pledge, I think. As for questions…

Why are the internet people not yet finished with Warren’s new internet?

Because the stars have not yet aligned quite right for the space pixies to arrive and make the proper connections? Probably about as good a reason as internet companies would give.

    Will they every be finished?

Well the heat death of the Earth will happen eventually, so that’ll end it pretty well.

Do you have a separate savings account for hobby expenses or do you just use whats there at the moment?

Savings? What are those? I’m a uni student; I’m not allowed savings unless Mummy and Daddy have trust funds. 😛

On the subject of internets…I need to work out how to try and fix mine; it’s getting real choppy right now and I doubt my landlord really cares. Might try resetting the router.

Got the Sergeant finished and the project post up! The pictures aren’t the greatest because I’m a basement dwelling troglodyte right now, but they’re alright.

    20210813_145918

I’m also slightly confused with the focus on my phone camera…it always blurs the peripheries of the minis…

On the subject of Youtube channels, I rather enjoy the Codex Compliant series that Snipe and Wib do. A lot of the old school codexes and such as well as old/weird lore. I also like a lot of Simon Clarke’s videos that he puts out. A lot of them are climate science videos, but he also does a few ‘could this exist’ things from various sci-fi settings, which are always fun.

    Also, more Battle Beast!

@crazyredcoat Battle Beast have been my earworm all week thanks to you. Had never heard of them before

Not going to lie, I was going to start on some hobby last night but somehow I sunk 6 hours into Boyfriend Dungeon on Games Pass. A dungeon crawler mixed with a dating sim… It’s as strange as it sounds but it is a lot of fun so far. I suspect I’ll lose many more hours to it today. My Infinity and MESBG models turned up this morning and I need to at the very least prep Galadriel before a stream tomorrow night so some hobby must be done.

Other youtube channels, most of the ones I follow have been mentioned but I’ll add Blackjack Legacy, Benji’s Hobbies, Dark Matter Workshop, Bill Makes Stuff, Battlestreams in Middle Earth, Little Wars TV and Miscast. I’ve culled a lot of the bigger names over the last year. I just found I was tired of the types of videos channels need to keep Patrons paying out and GW sending them things. “I’m so embarrassed by my pile of shame but here’s how I spent ££££ adding to it” might be the most gross video format out there. I’d rather watch smaller channels that focus on what they have actual passion for. I watch Miscast or Bill Making Stuff and feel inspired. I watch BSIME and I laugh and learn and feel enthusiastic about our hobby.

Well, today was a good day me thinks. Ever since my FLGS closed shop I ordered my stuff through https://www.fantasywelt.de and was pleases with them so far. This morning however I found that they do weird auction stuff on twitch. Basically they take returns, damaged games and such things and then start piling them up. The pile grows larger and larger until someone in chat goes MINE! and then it’s sold. One such pile is 50€ regardless of what is in it. (Two near complete copies of Twilight Imperium where part of two different piles)

And I snagged one pile to. This is what I got:

    • 2x Victory at sea – Battle for the pacific
    • 2x Kings of War Armada – Basilean Booster Fleet
    • Terrain Crate – Dungeon Essentials
    • Terrain Crate – Industrial Zone
    • D&D Collector’s Series – Adult Red Dragon

Looking at the prices for “undamaged” boxes in their shop, that’s about 330€ worth of stuff. Quite happy with that. Though I don’t think the ship stuff will be any use to me, the terrain crate definitely will and the Dragon will be my first giant model. I  hope that one is complete *g*
