@sundancer Cheers
Still can’t see anything about a new author though
March 5, 2021 at 2:32 pm #1619693It was very prominent on the RSS feed. But also visible on the top left corner 😉
March 5, 2021 at 2:34 pm #1619695March 5, 2021 at 3:14 pm #1619712This week’s pledge is to finish of the terrain crate models.
- Did you noticed the new author in the news? – I hadn’t noticed but didn’t Warren announce she’d be coming in the last XLBS?
- What’s the perfect amount of hours of sleep for you? – 7
- May 4th will bring us “The Bad Batch” on Disney+. Are you excited? – I enjoyed the clone wars but not the episodes with the bad batch so much. I’m not kidding myself though – I’ll still watch it.
March 5, 2021 at 3:46 pm #1619732Did you noticed the new author in the news? I can’t pretend I had. In fact, I’ve not seen the news page for a while. And after following the link you posted https://www.beastsofwar.com/news/ I feel like this should be more prominently placed on the site – there are loads of interesting articles there from recent months that had completely passed me by!
What’s the perfect amount of hours of sleep for you? Perfect is about nine hours. Typical is 5-6 at the minute. No other reason than I tend to stay up ’til stupid o’clock working and writing code.
May 4th will bring us “The Bad Batch” on Disney+. Are you excited? I don’t even know what this means. I suppose I could be – in the same way a labrador gets excited at someone solving a really difficult quadratic equation. I’m wagging my tail because everyone else is really pleased about something, but I’ve no idea what you’re talking about!
Pledge: I’ve been following up on “make-an-hour-a-day-for-hobby” and actually making some progress on a couple of fantasy football characters to go with my “Gouged Eye” orcs from a few months back. So I guess this week’s pledge is to get these four guys finished (yes, there’s four, I just missed on off the photo because auto-focus can’t cope with too many faces)
Music – this week I have mostly been listening to 90s rock. Here’s Screamager. It’s a dingy, sticky, black-walls-and-strobe-lights, room-above-a-pub-pretending-to-be-a-nightclub classic:
March 5, 2021 at 4:11 pm #1619736And whats an RSS feed?
@torros it’s sort of a push news feed you can put into your RSS client (thunderbird for example) and it’ll push notifications to your PC when there is something new.
See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS
March 5, 2021 at 4:41 pm #1619744@sundancer Thanks. I dint think I need that
March 5, 2021 at 5:54 pm #1619767I must be a bit late to the party; we’re on two pages already! At some point this week I will be trying a camo pattern on a Panzer IV ausf G (I think G…). Might not get finished within a week, but it’s worth a try to get that goal done. Haven’t decided on pattern yet, though…
QUESTIONS!
Did you noticed the new author in the news?
I’m kind of oblivious to most things, if I’m honest, but welcome new person!
What’s the perfect amount of hours of sleep for you?
10 years? That’s a rough estimate including a lot of backlog… 😛
May 4th will bring us “The Bad Batch” on Disney+. Are you excited?
I love Star Wars, I do, but there is just so much all the time now that I kind of just don’t care anymore. Besides, Disney seems to not want people to own hard copies anymore and put everything on Disney+ and I’m not paying for that just to watch Star Wars…
March 5, 2021 at 6:57 pm #1619770- Did I notice any new authors? not until you mentioned it, but I have now. Welcome to @fcostin, whoever you are
- How many hours sleep? Ideally 8, can get by with 7. Anything less and I will probably crash at some point during the day (and it also affects my eyesight)
- Am I excited for the bad batch? In a word, no. Honestly I am not really into the animated stuff anyway so to be honest nothing that’s currently happening at Lucasfilm has really affected that. But honestly, there’s WAY too much politics going on at Lucasfilm and it’s affecting the quality of the output. The sequel films were steaming hot shite, then there was a brief glimmer of hope with the Mandalorian. But after then the whole Gina Carano thing blew up (which was utterly ridiculous), it’s kind of left me feeling a bit meh about Star Wars in general. Luckily I have enough Star Wars gaming goodness to scratch that itch if I want it.
Pledge. Hmmm. What to pledge. I think to be honest finishing the Aeldari ranger from blackstone fortress might be about as much as I can do. I have a D&D session tonighta and my daughter all day tomorrow. Then tomorrow night I have a family zoom call after which I will most likely be building a desk for my home working, so I doubt there will be much hobby time until Sunday.
I will, however, try to pop in from time to time, maybe share a few glorious memes, I doubt anyone wants to hear what I am listening to. Let’s just say it’s atypical for gamers. Atypical in general to be honest
March 5, 2021 at 7:15 pm #1619777Go on @onlyonepinman – as long as it’s not jazz 😉 Some of us are open to new ideas (though, I must admit, since I appear to have stopped listening to new music some time around 2001, it’s quite possible that some of us are not!)
March 5, 2021 at 7:40 pm #1619781@blinky465 define “jazz”… If you’re talking, jazz as in the guy off the fast show (… Nice) then no.
I stopped listening to new music probably around a similar time (I think I lasted a few years longer) and found I started listening to older music. And then older music. And then foreign music. And then old foreign music. I have a bit of a thing for songs in languages I don’t understand. I would say I have definitely cast the net far and wide and I suppose it’s still getting wider, albeit at a slower rate. There’s definitely a few eras and styles I keep going back to though. Hence the question, define Jazz.
March 5, 2021 at 8:45 pm #1619844I had a bit of a thing for world music, when we lived in France about 14 years ago. I think I was one of the few people who genuinely liked the French Eurovision entry back in 2008. Everyone else thought it was a joke song, because of the backing singers and the inhaling helium and stuff (and, of course, there’s nothing more anti-french than singing in English! All my neighbours howled laughing at the “zany french humour”) but I honestly thought it was a great song!
When we lived in France, it was law that radio stations had to play not less than 40% french-language music. There were some really good songs about (and, tbh, a fantastic amount of terrible dross).
A lot of French (and German) music suffers from the harpsichord-oompah cliche, but there’s something utterly joyful about seeing your neighbours all dancing about in the street whenever the Fatals Picards came on the radio!
Does jazz need a definition? Discordant, uncomfortable, tuneless…. I like my tunes to be predictable. I like songs played in a key. I like music played to rules. A tune needs a tonic, and passages in it need to resolve (not necessarily a strict I-IV-V but it’s a great formula); it needs rhythm and harmony and a melody (and jazz has none of these things!) A bit like playing games, really – without rules, you’re just chucking dice across a table and mucking about.
March 5, 2021 at 10:54 pm #1619864In order to dislike something I suppose you need to define what it is first. Latin Jazz, Swing, Big Band, Acid Jazz are all “jazz”, but they’re also not tuneless bollocks
March 5, 2021 at 11:05 pm #1619867I would also count these as jazz, Jazz is bit of a catch all
March 6, 2021 at 1:05 am #1619920I was literally introducing a few people to Llanfair PG today! I’m not sure they believed me to being with that it was a real place… 😛 North Americans don’t know much about Welsh stuff. 😛
