I’ve seen that as well…. now if I only hat oil paints…. I probably still would do it with acrylics XD I’m lazy and too afraid to flock up my paintjobs

and OSL…. man, I need something to practice that on….  there is some terrain here somewhere….

Have you ever stepped back from the hobby?

-Ever since last November, I haven’t been able to paint a single thing, since for whatever reason I experience a severe mental block when I try to sit down and work on a miniature. At most I was able to assemble a 300-point army for Sludge and am looking into 3D sculpting commissions, but it’s hard to get over the “I just don’t care anymore” mentality.

Have you made the decision spontaneously?

-Not really, it’s been an ongoing thing. I haven’t been able to properly socially game in years, and the toxic communities everywhere are making it hard to enjoy many games like before (Battletech, Games Workshop, DnD, even Privateer Press lately). Not to mention that the pile of unpainted plastic and resin is incredibly disheartening.

Do you try to get back into the old system?

-I actually like diving into new rules, as they can provide new ways to play and new hobby opportunities.

My biggest question is how to overcome the “I’m tired of this”, “I don’t care anymore” mentality when it comes to hobby stuff, or how to get over the painting doldrums. Every forum loves to tout “just sit down and start painting,” but that’s easier said than done, especially when you have the double-whammy of depression and a terrible job getting you down. Any thoughts?

Sometime just stepping away for any amount of time is best course of action. Tidy up your hobby space/room. Organize your projects. Make your finished stuff look nice on a shelf or in a display case. Get rid of anything you feel you’ll never get around to paint or play. Maybe even remodel the hobby room/desk/space.

Don’t like to build or paint or play? Read up some new rule systems, maybe some with single player options. Read hobby related novels, watch hobby shows like The Painting Phase.

And if nothing helps: see my first advice. Just let it be for any amount of time. I took nearly a 10 year hiatus. (Stopped sometime early 2000’s and only got really back into mini hobby with Star Wars X-Wing in 2013 and proper painting with Legion later.)

Don’t push yourself. If your hobby doesn’t bring joy at the moment do something that does. And if you’d rather be watching Ben Hur or The Koloss of Rhodos then more power to you 🙂

Added only a few more drops to the bots above.

Also, I feel the thread being monthly is a bad thing as it gets even quieter XD

There is a bit of a “tumbleweed” feeling right now!
Absolute respect to you, for keeping us all limping along on the forums here. I – for one – appreciate it. But sometimes I hold back from posting, so it doesn’t look like just two people talking to each other. Which in turn makes it even quieter….

I’m away in Sicily for this month, so won’t be getting much hobby done (though I might hit Amazon and buy some speed paints just to pass a few evenings). But it’s always nice to call in on the forums and see what everyone else is up to and to get some ideas and inspiration.

I totally get that (the not always chiming in)

Also currently the “drama levels” in the hobby seems to be pretty low. Nothing horrible happened. No big “industry disrupting” tech has been invented and new products are also more a trickle. I’m sure it’ll get back to speed soon.

I got more Aeon Trespass in last week while the kids were away on holiday. https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1796204/

The monthly thread was a worthy experiment but it does seem to be even less active than the weekly thread. At least when it was weekly I got the weekly kick to prompt me to realise how much or little I’d done in the last week.

@danlee yeah I think so too. I guess we’ll return to weekly 😉

Last nights uHH was relaxing, I got some work done on my current Bot War project. I would upload pictures but I am in the office and last night I moved all my pictures from my phone to my NAS. So we’ll need to wait for it to be done later this afternoon.  XD

Almost Friday! And unless there will be last minute changes I’ll be having another game of SW:L tonight.

In other news: I need to reorganize my video files. After 149 episodes of uHH and 50’ish other video projects my DataDumpster Harddrive is almost full. Oh noes! XD

Now try to pretend you’re not secretly excited at the idea of archiving the old drive and getting new fresh one to build your next set of videos ?

(I’ve about four or five ssd drives with stls and each time one fills up I’m secretly pleased that I get to buy a new one and try to keep *this one* better organised this time!)

    Technically you are correct BUT:

I’m not a fan of “flying drives”. That’s why I’m running a TrueNAS setup at home. Keeps all things in one place and secure. Redundancy, Backups, family videos etc. Thing is: that one is also almost “filled up”.

So in order to move unneeded archive material I would need to have more space in my NAS. Which is running 4 drives in a RAID-Z2 config. Originally it was 4 x 1TB giving me 2TB of “secure NAS space”. At one point in time one of the drives failed and needed to be replaced. So out 1TB, in 4TB for “future proofing”. To get more space on the NAS I now need to add either a) more drives (which can’t happen since there are no more SATA ports available) or b) switch the remaining 1TB drives for 4TB ones.

And those drives go for around 100€ when you buy ones that are meant for 24/7 operation. So 300€.

And with that, we’re back to my old problem: funds. I’ll be needing to save up the funds to get the drives swapped. (also it’s a PITA to get the drives out of the case as there is a cooler fan in front… )

    I’ll get there… eventually… as always XD

    Thank Godot It’s Friday!

As promised, there will be a new thread up later today. I could just whip one up right now but I feel me might get a bit more mileage out of this if we *actually* tie in with The Weekender show. Weird concept, I know. So stay tuned!

And pray I don’t fall asleep right after The Weekender XD

    Woo. Nice idea.
I’m out in Sicily atm and I really don’t know where I’m up to, clock-wise. But I’ll be sure to check out the site sometime after tea and before bed….

    Don’t go to sleep!
One two, Freddy’s coming for you…..
