My current gaming setup is a cheap-ish one.

Some relatively cheap shelving wood from a a DIY store screwed to pieces of dismantled futon that I can store inside a wardrobe.

The black tiles are TTcombat gaming boards that I stuck cork tiles to and spray painted.

Throw a 6×4 gaming mat over the top and my 5×3 table becomes a 6×4 when needed.

Nice one, especially the storing away part. Not having stuff hog up space while not in use is very annoying to me.

    Good work.

Oh this is getting better by the minute:

YouTube suggested me this video (again from Dungeon Craft) which is the third (3rd!!!) version of the lazy susan thing.

And that is also older than the other two blokes videos XD

@pagan8th – no criticism of you here! It’s a great video, it’s a really interesting project. I like the idea (of mixing tech and tabletop gaming). I just think Jazza is (not for the first time) a little bit disingenuous in how he presented the idea – which parts were down to his innovation and which were “borrowed” from elsewhere.

In other news, my worst fears materialised today with my homebrew Demon Ship tiles: they started to warp.

    IMG20230506152929

You can see that they’re really starting to curl up!
And then I remembered a trick Mel the Terrain Tutor gave me, many many years ago (when I went to visit him when he first moved into his studio in the Spode Works) – if your mdf warps because you glued stuff to it, put some glue on the other side!

    So I did.

    IMG20230506153131

and made sure I smeared it around to cover the entire area

    IMG20230506153212

then stuck some black HIPs (polystyrene sheet) on the bottom and clamped it inbetween two sheets of Dibond (aluminium reinforced acrylic sheets). This helped ensure that the whole tile was squashed completely flat between the wood-working clamps.

    IMG20230506153434

(my clamps don’t have particularly deep throated openings, so I couldn’t clamp all the way around without cutting the Dibond sheets down – so just did the best I could with what I had!)

After leaving it overnight and checking, the result was very encouraging

A nice, flat tile, that sits perfectly on the tabletop with no rocking or wobbling.
I guess time will tell if it starts to curl back the other way – it did take about three days for it to become noticeable after I glued the resin tiles to the top, the first time. But the theory is that the original shrinkage that caused it to curl one way (as the pva glue dried on the top) should now be counter-acted by the pva glue on the bottom (forcing it to try to “curl” in the opposite direction).

I’ve seen this idea work for Mel in the past – fingers crossed it works here too!

@blinky465 nice visual demonstration of a terrain tip. PVA is a nice glue for many things but the shrinkage can really bit you in the rear end at times.

Speaking of Mel: I really am worried about him. He’s been going up and down for months but it looked like he finally got back on track this time but for over a month now there is silence once again. I hope he’s alright.

In other news: Monday morning. *sigh*

Luckily he has really big ears to keep the hat in place 🙂

    Tuesday! All back to work!

Good morning fellow brush lickers. I somehow managed to pull my right shoulder so doing anything is currently a pain in back side. Even kicking the mouse around.

Can’t be helped, I think this is this “growing old” thing. Did a wee bit of painting on some Mechs last night even though I have no idea where that leads me. Time will tell *g*

Tonight is stream night! Also: music!

You’re talking about Eurovision, aren’t you?
(didn’t realise you were also a fan!)

I managed to get some painting done over the Bank Holiday. Good old “slap-chop” and Speed Paints.
It took me years to stop hating my “cartoon-y” style of painting and now I’ve decided to go down the slap-chop route, I quite miss it. That said, cranking out five or six minis in an evening, instead of over the course of a week is quite satisfying, just in a different way.

Jupp. And it also varies from model to model if this hooker-bites-tongue works or not. I’ve used it on undead kings in armour and all and it looks very nice. I’ve tried it on Battelmechs and it’s a “hit and miss”. Less flat areas the better it works.

No. Mind the ! for separating different trains of thought.

    Best of morning. Tired.

    Coffee.

    Also, we now have cats:

We have new room mates. Meet Mr. Watson (left) and Mr. Holmes (right). Both 2 months old brothers but the mother doesn’t want to feed them any more. Expect to see more from them in the future.

I’m sure we will. Looking forward to seeing all your photos of paint spills!

I have (mostly) only dropper bottles. So there is that.

I’m more concerned of things on the shelves XD

Contrast paints (or speed paints are available) work best on textured surfaces in my experience. Good on fur, cloth, bark etc. Do make painting quicker.

I finished the lizardman model. https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1794968/

I’ve not done a lizardman model before so it was a nice change.
