    Good morning everyone.

Yesterday was “moving stuff” in the office since old office is getting reworked and now I’m sitting in a temp office. Might have less time chatting potentially.

Managed to get some paint on a little fellow. Now I’m tired as flock.

Now coffee and maybe some more coffee and work.

Blood Bowl Sevens/Blitz Bowl teams are coming along nicely. Not quite as quickly as I’d like, but my humans will be ready to go on their bases when the other five bases are fully dried. The half-painted elves should be done before the week is out

(no, they’re not drunk – they’ve been ceremoniously hacked off their (temporary) painting bases ready to be glued onto their final, flocked bases: the ones still on black round bases are still being painted!)

batch painting feels like the entire team is rubbish, rubbish, still rubbish, might look ok once the final touches are added… ah, ok, not terrible after all. I still prefer painting individuals, just to see the progress, but this little lot are coming along quite nicely now.

It’s funny how you see it this way. I’m quite the opposite. I feel is see more progress when batch painting. Though I rarely really put time and effort in a single model. That just happens when a mini *real* gets me. Like the undead bishop or Dunkeldorf Lemmy.

Why has the community been shattnered?

Don’t put to much interpretation into the topics. I usually just let some word association go wild in my head. This week was inspired by Shatterpoint. 🙂

I thought a title like Shatnerpoint would indicate a Star Trek-based game.

Ok, so I know I printed Blitz Bowl elf team and said I wouldn’t print anything else until I’d painted them up. And I know I only got two or three painted then along came UGNI miniatures and their Jim and Bob characters. And I know I’ve still got to finish the trousers on Jim. And I know I printed this month’s human team simply because it looked awesome and I still hadn’t finished my elf team. And I know I said I would only paint those guys, and always in batches of four (or six or preferably eight but absolutely never less than four at a time) but I’ve got a brand new 4K mono resin printer set up and and Torchlight just released an incredible looking Skaven team, so I just had to try them out – just to see how they printed of course.

    IMG_20221117_011611

And it turns out they print rather well. But now I’ve got three half-arsed, half-finished teams on the go….

These close-ups really don’t do the paint-job any favours. In real life, they don’t look too terrible! Looks like I’m going to miss my end-of-week pledge this week. But it’s not my fault, ok? 😉

@fourtytwo  it’s not yet time for the Shattner Christmas CD. But soon!

@blinky465  you do realize that you sound like… “an addict of resin” at this point? It’s ok, we’re all the same here. This is MA (miniatures anonymous) here. Just do it XD

Thursday and technically day of Yellow Belly Tabletop stream but I’m so flocking tired I might actually call it a day and be in bed by 8pm.

    > In real life, they don’t look too terrible!

Those skaven look fun. Get them on the game board! 😀

    > Five Leagues From The Borderlands.

Would like to know what you think of the game after hunting that ogre! I’m not sure what I’m looking for in a miniatures skirmish game. So far I got: narrative events between scenarios, plenty of scenarios to play, not another dice game.

    > Should we care about games any more?

I’m too busy shopping for games to care about them! 😀

    > It feels like it mostly just “push it out the door, someone will buy it”

Well, if it’s an actual *game* I read the reviews. If it’s miniatures, at least looking at them and the company’s reputation should give me a good idea of the sculpt quality. KS has been a good way to get bulk miniatures for gaming, even if any game attached to the miniatures isn’t any good. If I see a dice-fest combat game and there aren’t a ton of miniatures, I usually don’t bother with it. As for Shatterstorm (?), it’s non-standard miniature scale and price means I’ll skip it. I’m not so much of a fan of SW and Marvel that I’d shell out money for the licensing fees. If someone wants to buy a game, I’m not stopping them, although “lifestyle” games are certainly fragmented (especially with RPG’s), so I usually give them a pass.

They are pretty fun to paint too. I’ll probably end up with humans, elves and now skaven teams all finishing together – I need to get busy making lots of grass-flocked bases. Since deciding that Blood Bowl is too much work, and sticking to “sevens” and Blitz Bowl (I’m still looking for a copy of Ultimate Edition in the UK to replace my homebrew pirated-off-the-internet version) painting an entire team feels much less daunting (two batches of four feels manageable).

In painting these skaven I discovered a new trick:
To paint tiny, thin lines around the inner edge of the shoulder pads, I found thinning the paint and using the very tip of the brush worked ok. But it did mean that any slight tremor or wobble was exaggerated in the line.
Painting at about 45 degrees, with a nice, sweeping motion creates lovely straight lines. But sometimes they come out a bit too thick.

But now I just get on with it. And then use the original colour to “cut-in” and make the lines appear narrower (and, to my eyes at least, smoother and straighter than if I painted them with just the tip of the brush!)

I’m really enjoying painting these skaven. But give it another few sessions and I’m sure they’ll start to feel like a chore, just like the humans and elves 😉

At some point you really need to finish one of those teams to play with them 😉

I could always just take the ones I’ve completed and play a human-elf-skaven union team though, right?
    I’m sure we could house-rule it 😉

@ced1106 So far I haven’t played the game, although the table is all set up and I just need to roll dice and move miniatures. I’ve been a little distracted this week playing Zelda Breath of the Wild. Tomorrow looks like another rainy day so I’m going to hopefully play it then.

Also so far I’ve played about 8 games of Five Leagues and I like it. The mechanics are pretty simple and the game can be quite deadly if you’re not careful but that combined with the rpg elements between the games provides a create story campaign and you really do get a sense of exploring a whole land.  Here’s my project I’ve been doing of my journey so far – https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1727081/

Back after a hiatus and meander about my mind and hobby shtuff.
Pledge: Work on minis this weekend.

This is a bit of a cheat as I planned to do it with the local mini painting group. I have, however, pulled my SAGA force out and knocked the dust off to make developments. The Juan Hidalgo video is pertinent.

As far as pushing games out I think there’s a lot of that going on. I can think of the recent iteration of D&D as just such a case when 2nd and 3rd ed. were pretty well held to slow grow development and allowed people to actually play the game before it changed anything. Considering the GW model of editing and reprinting on a near yearly basis (effectively nerfing itself every time) the hype of constant development/change (living rulebook you need to check twice daily on an app) is ruining any sort of fun to explore play. Get uaed to the idea of a pair of woolen socks that reach a certain point as you wear them and then realize you’re now wearing woolen pantyhose. Granted, this may have certain appeal/usefulness in certain circumstances its not what you originally put on. Its not one size fits all either.

Ehh.. enough rant let’s ease the tension in the air with some long listening
