- I hadn’t even realised it was St. Paddy’s day so it just flew me by
- My son has been making friends at his new school so I’m quite happy with that. He’s just moved up from nursery where all his friends were and he’s going to a different school from them.
- Despite what some of you grumps will think Christmas is my favourite holiday. I work literally everyday so taking a day out to blow some cash on myself guilt free is quite nice.
My pledge this weekend is to finally put together my Perry Miniatures English Agincourt box that a friend bought as a birthday present 6 months ago.
I have a backlog of hobby related YouTube videos get catch up on. Yesterday I watched a few painting tutorials for the Crisis Protocol minis, they seem suit contrast paints really well.
March 21, 2021 at 1:35 pm #1625065Wow. Sunday already. Not only did I miss Friday but it seems – because of the bonanza of rugby on the telly yesterday – Saturday passed me by too. Anyway, it’s nice to have a little catch up and join in. Here goes….
How are you feeling currently? Still hung over from St. Paddy day?
Pretty good. No hangover (I don’t think I’ve ever had one – not because I’m some kind of beer monster, but because I’ve an allergy to alcohol, so can’t get drunk). But it feels like spring is on its way, people are starting to smile at each other, it feels like things are gradually getting better. My fear is that they just go back to “normal”. It’d be good if we could take just the best bits of how life used to be and create this fabled “new normal”.
What positive things happened to you in the last days?
Completely destroyed my game/app by adding in a new system of starting/joining online games and downloading assets, but got it working again yesterday (during a lull in the England game – yes, I know, much of it felt like a “lull”, that’s how I managed to get so much done!). Got me a rechargeable battery amp to take outside for jamming with my guitar (who knows, maybe even a little busking?) . And the campervan got a new MOT so we’re ready to go exploring, once we’re allowed to once again. Things feel pretty positive just at the minute, in Blinky Towers.
What is your favourite holiday?
Some days I feel like I live on holiday – it’s why I love the nice weather. Just a short walk, or a quick bike ride, and we’re on the beach. Brighton is a bit of a party town – there’s always something going on. It’s just a matter of getting out and having a look around. I never know what day it is, let alone what time of year. I have no concept of “holidays” as in dates in a calendar (Easter, Xmas etc) so it’s hard to pick a favourite. The best holiday I ever went on was the one that introduced me to canal boating (so much that my wife and I went on to liveaboard a narrowboat for a few years, many years later).
Pledge this week – I’m painting up a Great Grimoire Alice in Wonderland model as a birthday gift. But, of course, a straight forward painted mini isn’t enough – I’m adding some tiny animatronics. I might just make a project for it….
Music? Here’s the Violent Femmes
March 21, 2021 at 10:42 pm #1625146Finished all 8 of my Billion suns Frigates.
Nice easy paint jobs on them.
I think perhaps less is more on spaceships, quite often they are just depicted as grey objects.
Thats the excuse I’m sticking to anyway.
March 22, 2021 at 12:20 am #1625205Hails all,
Late to the party but I’m going to blame it on the fact I had to work this weekend and not my piss-poor time management.
I have been working on my pledge though. Griff Oberwald has been getting some attention and he’s coming along okay. It’s nice to work on a single mini again after batch painting the last lot. Mostly just basecoats and washes but his armour has been layered and highlighted. It’s done but for the weathering I’ll add towards the end.
It’s late so I’ll leave it at that quick update but I’ll take a proper look at what everyone else has been up to tomorrow.
March 22, 2021 at 8:24 am #1625256Ohhh nice work. I still get excited when I see Blood Bowl posts – but mostly it acts as a reminder that I’ve still only got half a team each of orcs and humans, and need to get my finger out to get them finished. Love the Griff character!
March 22, 2021 at 10:00 am #1625277March 22, 2021 at 4:21 pm #1625440That is brilliant! If @warzan doesn’t have a “mash-up” night on OTT radio sometime soon, something is very wrong.
We’ve already seen “Hip to be the Sandman”. How about “Sweating Robins”? (this has to be one of best yet!)
March 22, 2021 at 4:24 pm #1625441@blinky465 I’m guessing you haven’t caught up with the XLBS this week then? Because he already did hence the inspiration *G*
March 22, 2021 at 5:21 pm #1625442March 22, 2021 at 9:36 pm #1625491So I was just talking with my brother and we were complaining about a lot of the aggression towards (primarily) the newer (or in some cases the whole range) AoS stuff. I won’t get too much into that argument, because it will cause some problems, I imagine, but we were talking about the new Lumineth stuff and how refreshing some of the details and such are and I realised something. Something that made me think ‘hang on a sec, this might be doable’. So the new brother/sister duo mini, right? Tell me she doesn’t resemble General Kala from Flash Gordon…
Like seriously, trim the headgear a little, give her an 80’s style blaster instead of the staff and BAM! I wonder if I could find more minis to make a Flash Gordon style Kill Team… How deep does this rabbit hole go?
March 22, 2021 at 9:55 pm #1625497March 22, 2021 at 10:07 pm #1625501You’re welcome!
March 23, 2021 at 6:09 am #1625572@crazyredcoat Just go to Hydra Miniatures
March 23, 2021 at 2:52 pm #1625711Very true, but if I convert them from GW minis then I can take them to official GW events! That being said, I hate competitive play…but it’d be worth it to wind people up. 😛
March 25, 2021 at 5:24 pm #1626417I got my pledge for this week finished!
Ok – not *exactly* finished, as I need to paint the base/plinth (but we all claim our minis are fully painted before we’ve done the basing, don’t we?)
Getting everything crammed in without getting into the way of the tiny servo was a real headache. But it was brilliant to see it actually working!
