cam I just stay with Super Dungeon Explore as the tabletop game turned videogame and call it good?

Sure, it’s your hobby. You do you!

Wednesday my dudes… coffee still making it’s way into my system. Will be active later.

So I just went in and bought the recent Fallout Wasteland Warfare Humble Bundle. There is a MyMiniFactory link in this that I don’t need as I already own those STL files from a previous Humble Bundle.

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare – Terrain Expansion: Parked Vertibird – STL, Pre-war APC STL, and Vault-Tec Vault Girl STL

    CLAIM ME!

Just click it if you want it. It’s a one time use link AFAIK. Have fun with it!

The current rate for the complete bundle is 17€ if you want it all (there is more STL and books, scenarios and whatnot)

    HUMBLE BUNDLE LINK

    And now back to Work

    • Boutique minis: have you tried them, are you tempted?

Many years ago, I bought a whole load of Discworld pewter minis and painted them up as a birthday gift. Now I don’t have them (they looked superb, even if I say so myself) but, frustratingly, neither does the recipient any more! I also bought a bunch of Masters of the Universe minis off etsy a while back (before the MOTU licence got its recent Kickstarter reboot) and they sit proudly on my “done” shelf.

I *could* be tempted again, if it was a subject particularly dear to me – but these days, if it’s not available in STL form, I tend not to be too interested!

    • rewatching old BoW videos: have you done it and did you like it?

Yes and yes. I much prefer the “studio setting”. And it was great fun to see the likes of Sam and Cass and Ryan on camera too. It felt like a “proper TV show”.

    •  Dungeon Saga: Origins. Are we ready for another dungeon crawler?

Maybe. I’ve yet to play a dungeon crawler that didn’t, after about an hour and a half, start to feel like a grind. Get in, grab the loot, get out isn’t much of a “crawler” but I think that’s where I’m at right now. So I guess it depends on how it will play. But this year I’m keen to try out some new games, so why not?

@horati0nosebl0wer – nice tunes. I’ve been getting a bit “nostalgic” for music too, myself, recently. So much so that when I heard that Rat (from Ned’s Atomic Dustbin fame) was putting out some new music for the first time in thirty years, I jumped aboard straight away. Even bought me some vinyl!

I’ve decided that my love of 80s metal and 90s style indie rock is because it’s so heavily tied into my memories of the people and things that were going on back then. So now I need to start listening to new music so I’ve got something to hook my “new memories” onto, in years to come. (yes, it can be the same *style* of some of my favourite old tunes, but it’s got to be new!). This year is all about finding new tunes to become the soundtrack of “now”.

I’m also buying albums again. Streaming and playlists are fine. But it’s too easy to skip over “difficult” songs and choose only ones with instant appeal. When you play a full album, it’s often the tunes you don’t immediately like that become like a “slow burner” and become favourites after many, many listenings.

So here’s Obey Robots (from their just-released album that made the dizzying heights of number 14 in the charts, outselling The Arctic Monkeys and Lewis Capaldi no less!)

    Wait… what?

as I already own those STL files

You’re hoarding STL files already? While refusing to join the cool kids with their tabletop resin printers?
Are you going to go from 3d-printer-denier to knocking out four printed armies in a weekend or something?

    😉

Same. I wish the team would start doing at least one XLBS a month back in studio. I spend most of my work time on Zoom calls, it’s a bit tiring to spend hobby time watching others on a Zoom call ?

@sundancer Since Lloyd is also getting a resin printer, why wouldn’t you?

I’m looking forward to the day @sundancer becomes poacher-turned-game-keeper.
I gave him twelve months a while back.
    We’ll see….. 🙂

@guillotine “most of your time” ?

I can’t decide if you’ve got the best job ever or the worst!

    @guillotine   multiple reasons.

    1. Lack of space
    2. Lack of funds
    3. Still not “set and forget”
    4. Prints take too long

I’ve been on record saying this before: when 3D printing reaches the ease of use like modern paper printers then I might get one (if 1. and 2. are no concern at that time any more and prints are done “instantly and not over a period of hours for decent quality)

I gave him twelve months a while back.

@blinky465 do not hold your breath! Unless I’m winning one by dumb luck then I’m not getting one.

@blinky465, it’s both good and bad. I have days when I sit 7 hours in meetings, but at least they’re all remote!

Right now it’s hard to disagree with @sundancer on the 3D printers… Just had a failed print and had to clean the tank. I hate that bit. To be fair though, that was the first failed print in months and could have been avoided if I had paid more attention with the supports. But still.

I feel mechanically the modern resin printers aren’t million miles from “set and forget”. The biggest problems are in the slicer software and/or quality of available pre-supported files. Most of the time pre-supported files need at minimum adjustments or having to do the supports yourself. Its a all doable and the slicers have improved much, but it is still very time consuming.

@guillotine – you nailed it; as far as hardware goes, there’s not much more to do with 3d printers.
It’s a bit like buying a top end photo-quality Canon printer and complaining your pictures are rubbish because you only ever use Word’s Clip Art – it’s not the printer that’s the issue!
So many stl creators at the minute have no idea about actual printing – they make lovely looking renders to sell their models, but they’re often just dreadful. I still refuse to use other people’s supports, so it’s not really fire-and-forget (except it is – I spend an hour or so preparing my files, then I send them to the printer and just walk away for a few hours – I treat it the same as preparing a photo before printing, to get the best results).

@sundancer – what if there’s some way we could orchestrate some dumb luck for you? Interested? I might still have your address but DM me – it make take a few weeks, but we can make this happen! You’ve got about four weeks to make some space 😉

(we can’t do anything about your number 4. But unless you’re painting faster than your printing, does it really matter?)

I appreciate the sentiment @blinky465  I really do as I am tech curious as most IT workers are but first and foremost I must point to “1. Lack of space” I have nowhere to set up a 3D printer of any description. My home office/hobby room is filled to the brim and the garage (where my airbrush lives) is so stuffed I can barely walk from front to back.

And my wife will have my head and some other more important appendages if I suggest setting up a noisy, smelly and potential fire hazard device in the kitchen or living room.

Again, really appreciate the thought but no can do sir. It would just stay in its box and remain there until either my daughter is old enough and moves out (which takes 6 more year at the minimum) or we actually find an affordable house to buy.

So unless 1. isn’t solved the discussion is rather theoretical in nature. 🙂

Hmmm. I could get away with getting funding and pushing some (relatively cheap) hardware through my company books under the guise of “research and development” but an entire house might be a stretch! You might well be on to something when you insist you’re not getting into 3d printing any time soon, after all (although not with the fire hazard thing – the machine is little more than a phone screen and a stepper motor; your phone, with its lithium battery, is probably more of a fire risk than a resin printer!)

The potential fire hazard was more on the lines of filament printer. It’s heating plastic and failing heaters are dangerous.

On other notes. It’s Friday! So when the weekender drops there will be a new thread!

Woop woop! Might not pick it up ’til the morning. I keep hearing about how dreadful it is “back home” (my mum in Wales, my sister in Gloucester and my neighbours near Brighton have all reported snow and negative temperatures). This evening my wife and I will be attending the theatre in Noto (won’t understand a word, but music is universal, right?) after spending this afternoon on the beach, in 21 degree sunshine!

But will have a catch-up in the morning. Promise.

(and yes, FDM printers can be fire hazards! Especially those made “on the cheap” in China, from underpowered MOSFETs, cheap nasty wiring and insufficient heatsinking).
