    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Questions:

    • Boutique minis: have you tried them, are you tempted?
    • rewatching old BoW videos: have you done it and did you like it?
    • Dungeon Saga: Origins. Are we ready for another dungeon crawler?

And now back to the show.

    My pledge:

    • varnish the finished Bot War deceivers and close the project on that
    • tidy the hobby space (again)
    • build a new Star Wars: Legion list so that I may have a flocking chance next time of winning XD

    Answers to my own questions:

    • Never tried them, been tempted at times but mostly never pulled the trigger because a) I never could make the mini look as good as I wanted or b) mini just way to expensive.
    • no but yes. It’s an odd one.
    • Maybe. I reserve judgement on that project until we get to see more. More of what’s in the box, how the rules are and what the price will be.

And to make this a very chillaxed entry to the weekend, music!

    My pledge:

    • Still working on video……couldn’t get my January video done as I had to go out of town for a work project.
    • Didn’t get my February video done as ……… Wait a sec….. February is over???  Why does time seem to be going faster these days?
    • I am working on a ‘Black Seas’ video, a Pulp Alley video, and some Conquest.  But now that Gerry and the team are focusing the whole month of March on Conquest i think I can scratch that off my list.  Don’t want folks to think I’m trying to skate in on the coat tails of OTT.

    Questions:

Boutique minis: have you tried them, are you tempted?

Answer….Yes.  I have several and have been very happy with them.

Rewatching old BoW videos: have you done it and did you like it?

Answer....Yes.  I quite often go back and rewatch BoW videos.  Happy days those were.  Lloyd doing Hobby Lab videos, Warren doing the ‘Flames of War for the Win’ videos with Dr. Dave!  (I miss him)  Not mention searching the catalog and finding Little Gerry’s first screen time vids with BoW.  John’s early videos when he smiled more! ??   Not to mention all the team members that have come and gone.  Good times!

Dungeon Saga: Origins. Are we ready for another dungeon crawler?

Answer……I have all the OG Dungeon Saga.  Very happy with it.  Don’t really need more of it or feel like it needed fixing or improving.  But I wish them luck with it.

Don’t want folks to think I’m trying to skate in on the coat tails of OTT.

Since video production always takes time only idiots would think that. I say: go for it! There is no better time to release a video in the same period as others do because people do want to see different perspectives. Take a page from the book of pirates! Grab what you can and give nothing back! READY FOR BOARDING!

And yes @templar007 as life goes downhill with age the days speed up… velocity and all… All the more reasons to start video releasing now!

    RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

Hi everyone. This week’s pledge is to tidy up and prep for painting a load of 3D prints I did last week.

I just finished some Arc Worlde Kickstarter minis: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1794968/

    • Boutique minis: have you tried them, are you tempted? – I guess so if Kindom Death and the Nymphs Aeon Trespass put out before the board game count.
    • Rewatching old BoW videos: have you done it and did you like it? – I only really watch the current stuff.
    • Dungeon Saga: Origins. Are we ready for another dungeon crawler? – I’m currently saturated with miniature board games.

    Nice work there @danlee

Something grabbed me today and I painted one single mini within 3 hours. Not to a great standard but a lovely miniIMG_20230304_160636915IMG_20230304_160628994IMG_20230304_160648237

Technically those are Lloyd shots as the model is meant to be a “War Dog” with a tail. But my daughter said: that’s his nose! So now that is a trunk and also it has a top hat. XD

    > Boutique minis: have you tried them, are you tempted?

Picked up the base game and gambler’s chest pledge for the KDM KS. The base set arrived long ago, but I only opened up the miniatures to look at them 😛 Otherwise, no interest in expensive miniatures not meant for gaming nor do I have the skill and time to paint them. While there’s an obvious difference between boardgame miniatures and boutique, even boardgame miniatures have greatly improved since CMON entered boardgaming.

    > Dungeon Saga: Origins. Are we ready for another dungeon crawler?

I have the DS base set, and, while not bad, it’s not a must-have. Price per miniature and sharpness of details aren’t as good as Archon. Haven’t tried the game system because so many other games are in the queue. Playing the Lasting Tales (still unreleased) miniature skirmish game because it’s a casual system with campaign elements, and because I’ve been playing dungeoncrawlers since HeroQuest. 😛

If by boutique minis you mean the likes of Raging Heroes that cost more the GW stuff they duplicate… then no… not bought any… makes no sense to me to buy an alternative that costs more than the original.

However, I have bought a few from Etsy that were for RPG characters and I am considering buying some ‘fakes’ to represent Marvel Crisis Protocol as I bought the 2022 card pack to expand my core set… because MCP mins are £15 each or more and Etsy a lot less.

Seldom watch a BoW video right through, I skim bits that don’t interest me like the stuff about 3D printing or board games that don’t appeal… and no… don’t rewatch them.

I have Dungeon Saga Core (for the terrain mostly), Companion (for solo) and Infernal Crypts (I needed some demons). Only tried solo couple of times and was not impressed. Bought Star Saga for the SF terrain and made mistake of using a primer that means the paint never dries (very annoying). Remake would have to be something very special to make me but it.

@ced1106 I was sent the Lasting Tales pdf rules because of the delays on Blacklist Fantasy 1, even though I got mine way before most people. I got those minis for RPG use and they are getting used. Bargain for what you got in the boxes. But I’d never trust Blacklist again given how far behind they are on deliveries. The misjudged the KS price by unlocking so many stretch goals and I think that screwed them financially. Covid didn’t help. Not looked at Lasting Tales rules more than once, but I’ll take another look some time.

    Pledge:

I’ll update one the existing Projects in the Project system or create a new one. I keep painting stuff but somehow have ignored posting.

    Questions:

    > Boutique minis: have you tried them, are you tempted?

Yes, I have some boutique stuff and very much like them.

    > rewatching old BoW videos: have you done it and did you like it?

Once in a while I go and watch some Backstage back catalogue gold. The hobby stuff in particular is evergreen.

    > Dungeon Saga: Origins. Are we ready for another dungeon crawler?

Only dungeon crawler I have is my childhood copy of Hero Quest. And it doesn’t get played because I’m sure the gameplay wrecks the gilded memories. Generally the genre of dungeon crawlers is not my cup of tea.

On other bit of hobby stuff, I just booked flights and hotel for London in April to have a weekend getaway with the missus and visit this tiny wargames show called Salute. My last Salute was pre-covid and a lot has changes in my life and my hobby since. I’ve overcome the shiny-syndrome / hobby-hoarding and while I might pick up one or two (perhaps boutique) miniatures, an interesting book or maybe some hobby supplies, I’m much more going to enjoy the games there.

Good morning everybody. It is Monday and we enter another week.

So let me rephrase what I meant with “Boutique minis”. Usually you have your minis for your game system. In 28, 32, 15, 10mm or what ever scale. “Boutique minis” I think are 32/54mm and up and maybe even small busts. So miniatures you would (in most cases) not use for gaming.

The week starts weird as we have snow. And I had hoped we get warmer weather so that I could prime some more. Well, will have to make due with what is already primed.

I was on the same page as you with the “Boutique minis”. I generally buy them for just the love of painting or because they answer the rule of cool!  At some point I’ll build a special display case for them.  54mm and up plus busts and limited edition larger version of gaming minis.  I think the last one I bought was an upscale mini from the Moonstone collection.

As to the weather……we had 74 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday. Absolutely beautiful day.  I sat on the front porch with a stack of books reading and drinking ice tea. Projected temperature for today 59 F.

    @sundancer … In that case… no I don’t own any boutique minis.

@sundancer My thinking matches on your description of “boutique”. Small manufacturer, more display piece style miniatures aimed mainly at painters or collectors.

    Tuesday my friends and foes.

Yesterday I did bugger all hobby but I did something. And let me tell you it was a nightmare.

Some of you may remember that I am self employed. With that come an awful lot of paperwork. So what has happened since Q3 2018? Every piece of documentation that I got back from my tax consultant just went on a big “sort later” pile.

Almost 5 years of bills, bank statements and all kind of documentation that come with being self employed. And I sorted it all last night. I started at 7pm and was done close to midnight.

    I hate paperwork.

Back after a hiatus and quite a few 10hr shifts, and for the foreseeable future, I give my two cents.

Pledge: Finish painting part one of Giftmas packages

Boutique minis: Yes indeed. Kingdom Death and an few others. I do not regret the purchases but fear screwing up the paintjob.

rewatching old BoW videos: Yes, I keep a running collection of links for my past gift giving to see the responses for when I feel down or otherwise need a pick me up for painting motivation

Dungeon Saga: Origins…. cam I just stay with Super Dungeon Explore as the tabletop game turned videogame and call it good?

Busy busyness otherwise but here’s some music of epic proportion that @warzan and even @blinky465 can enjoy (Smoulder has a new album about to come out so thank Canada for that)
