### Start of shameless copy & paste ###
Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy & paste ###
I’m a bit burned out on questions this week so tell us a little bit of something positive that happened to you the last 7 days.
November 6, 2020 at 7:38 am #1579742Positive things that happened: got a positive reply for a second Tim & Gerry show interview partner, launched the Imperial Interlude Star Wars podcast and got a negative C-19 test 😉
November 6, 2020 at 3:55 pm #1579877So I have a bit of a lighter week ahead with school work, but I do have a rough draft of a Volcanology paper due…so not much time. I’m hoping to get some paint on Jaime Lannister. Hopefully the paint job can help make the damage I did look deliberate rather than ‘melty’, but we’ll have to see. Nice to see that the Tim and Gerry show is going well; I promise I will catch up with the VODs when I get a chance…
As for something positive, I did ace a midterm exam, so there’s that. Most of my life is just school these days… 😛
Have some epic music for playing games to:
November 6, 2020 at 8:01 pm #1579906Testing for Covid 19 : The only test where failing is good news … 😉
If you’ve ever played Darkest Dungeon then you will recognise this voice :
hmm … I think we now have an incentive to do some actual hobby too :
November 6, 2020 at 8:11 pm #1579918I took a few weeks away from painting little plastic men and played about with my electronics. I made a cnc machine for hot-etching styrofoam and made some cool electronic dice-rollers. So that was positive.
Then some guy asked to see what else I’d been doing over lockdown and now I’ve got a new business partner as we look to bring a few new products to market. So that was positive.
I found a guy who plays trombone (I know) and trumpet, who plays the pre-chorus for this song beautifully. So that was positive. But I still trip over the words – and given we’ve all just gone into lockdown – we won’t be playing it live any time soon! So for everyone else, that’s positive.
November 6, 2020 at 8:14 pm #1579919@limburger look for “The Raven” read by Christopher Lee… much better then your vid 😉
I made a cnc machine for hot-etching styrofoam
@blinky465 does the density/hardness of the foam affect the the etching?
November 6, 2020 at 8:29 pm #1579921Not really. I put the power on a variable control, so thicker lines (in the .svg line drawing) get more power. It sort-of-works – not so you can tell the difference between a 3pt line and a 4pt line, but definitely between a 1pt line and a 10pt line.
Different foams react differently (i.e. 8% power on white styrofoam makes slightly wider lines than 8% power on blue modelling foam) but I’m just working out the “upper power limit” for different materials, so line thicknesses are consistent across all of them. It’s going to be a lot of trial-and-error.
So for white styrofoam, I might say “power should be 0v to 6v” but for blue modelling foam, the range might be 0v to 8v or something- so when I say “4pt line width = 50% power” the line thickness will be the same for all materials. It’s all a bit hit-and-miss at the minute. But encouraging…….
November 7, 2020 at 12:11 pm #1580022This week’s pledge is to assemble a steampunk dragon I’ve been 3D printing. It is going into my Dweghom army. I’m also going to go back to the Aeon Trespass nymphs and paint some of them up.
Positive stuff from the last 7 days… Tricky… I’ve been told that despite my reservations we are getting a pet cat. Either it will help with my stress or it will make it go through the roof. I’ll try to stay positive and hope for the former.
Last night I finished the remaining Kingdom Death Monster models from the core set. Full project entry here: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1467945/
November 7, 2020 at 12:23 pm #1580025Oh yeah, pledges – nice reminder @danlee!
I’ve got half a Blitz Bowl Orc team painted as part of the “Orktober” thing last week – instead of pledging stupid and claiming I’ll get the team finished, maybe this weeks’ pledge is to get another one done?
Photos of a 3d-printed steam-punk dragon would be cool….
November 7, 2020 at 3:01 pm #1580050grmbl … either the interwebz ate my post or I forgot to hit da button … nah, couldn’t be that or could it ?
Anyways …
@sundancer : it’s kind of read like a story instead of a poem, so yeah. It’s not perfect, but he has the perfect voice for such dark stories.I see your Christopher Lee
and raise you a Vincent Price :
(it’s a shame the quality of the video itself is terrible … )
November 7, 2020 at 9:02 pm #1580142So, once again, schoolwork overload resulted in not wanting to do anymore…so Jaime Lannister got finished. I’ll add a project post soon, but I’m rather pleased with him. That’s all my House Lannister characters done. Not sure what to do next, but at some point I need to start a rough draft of a paper…I keep saying that, don’t I?
November 7, 2020 at 9:29 pm #1580178@crazyredcoat you do keep saying that … maybe you should start doing it.
Kind of like me and my Soviet army.
I keep saying I will build it.
I really should be getting on with it … (I do have 3 BA-64’s built and have documented stuff in my private project… so it’s not like I’ve done nothing and it may be more than your paper :D)November 8, 2020 at 5:35 pm #1580351Its Remembrance week here in the UK 11 day of the 11th month at the 11th hour
Lest we forget
November 8, 2020 at 9:10 pm #1580385November 8, 2020 at 11:06 pm #1580448@tuffyears 11-11 at 11 has a different meaning for me.
11 being the fools’ number to be precise, so it’s usually the official start of ‘carnaval’
( that song never fails to make me homesick and happy at the same time )
