### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Questions:
- Will you dive in full force into all those Black Friday “deals” and buy all the stuff you know you’ll never build and paint?
- Have you actually looked at specific things you already want to go down in price and then throw in a bunch of stuff more because “it’s a sale!”?
- Or will you just sit and watch, knowing that your hard earned money is still with you and will be spend shortly after Christmas?
And now back to the show.
November 26, 2021 at 6:01 am #1697645Pledge: keep this thread going until Christmas
Answers:
- no
- no
- perhaps.
So flocking tired right now… straight thinking elude me. Need more coffee and music!
November 26, 2021 at 6:53 am #1697649‘ola … I will see if I can anything hobby related done this time. Prediction is not good, but I shall try.
(1) Will you dive in full force into all those Black Friday “deals” and buy all the stuff you know you’ll never build and paint?
This ‘friday’ that has started about two weeks ago ?
Kind of like 2020 still on-going I guess 😉
I’ve been looking, but nothing screams “buy me” and my stack of opportunity is pretty high as is so I really shouldn’t.And isn’t ‘black friday’ a bit racist ?
(2) Have you actually looked at specific things you already want to go down in price and then throw in a bunch of stuff more because “it’s a sale!”?
Only thing I’ve been looking at are a few of the Judge Dredd minis and that Tamiya snip you have.
I never buy stuff ‘because it is a sale’ … but I am often tempted to buy a few more bits just to get ‘free shipping’.(3) Or will you just sit and watch, knowing that your hard earned money is still with you and will be spend shortly after Christmas?
What’s this Chrismas thing ?
Aren’t we supposed to celebrate the end of darkness ?With about 0,01% interest there’s no real reason to not spend money as fast as you earn, is there?
November 26, 2021 at 7:15 am #1697650With about 0,01% interest there’s no real reason to not spend money as fast as you earn, is there?
Yes but no. Not spending money is always a good thing to have some kind of buffer for times with “less money” or “higher spendings then usual”.
November 26, 2021 at 9:45 am #1697704I actually have a hobby related question the two here still reading 😉
How often do you find yourself in a situation where you hear about “a new trick” or easy way to do something and you think “Damn, I totally forgot that”.
For me it was a video for a HeroQuest dungeon build that @grimwolf posted in discord. The guy simply put screws in the bottom of XPS foam walls and magnets in the base. Like, brilliant! Not only to the screws lower the centre of gravity for each piece but the magnet keep them from sliding. And you don’t have to care about magnet polarity!
And still I fail to remember these tricks when I could use them. How about you?
November 26, 2021 at 10:06 am #1697727Two more rules to add if your Canadian, 1. No complaining that its to cold outside and 2. No complaining that your hockey team sucks this season. 🙂
November 26, 2021 at 10:13 am #1697743I can’t remember anybody bringing up hockey…. oO
…and there are Canadians here?! XD
November 26, 2021 at 11:50 am #1697775Happy Friday.
My pledge this weekend is to paint “The Sisters”, 2 models from Northumbrian Tin Soldier, both archers and once they’re complete I’ll have a working Frostgrave warband.
I’ll also going to play a friend’s board game tomorrow evening, but I cannot remember which one he said it was, so I’ll get back later on that. Will you dive in full force into all those Black Friday “deals” and buy all the stuff you know you’ll never build and paint?
Not full force but I have had a browse and selected one or two items.
Have you actually looked at specific things you already want to go down in price and then throw in a bunch of stuff more because “it’s a sale!”?
Well, I’ve just got back home from a trip down to Northumbrian Tin Soldier and picked up a few things, more like seized the opportunity rather than added more stuff. Oh, and one or two things on my Amazon wish list went down the the lowest they’ve been so…yoink!
Or will you just sit and watch, knowing that your hard earned money is still with you and will be spend shortly after Christmas?
I’m kind of doing this with Victrix. I’ve got a list of stuff I want to get for ancients but I’m not starting any of that until next year so it can wait even though they have a sale on.
How often do you find yourself in a situation where you hear about “a new trick” or easy way to do something and you think “Damn, I totally forgot that”.
Not really forgot but it’s quite often something I’ll have to try out. Most of the Gerry Cans for example.
Just yesterday I was reading the latest Irregular Magazine (it’s excellent and free to download) and they had a way of building easy hills that look great. Something I’ll have to try.I’ve been watching the live action Cowboy Bebop on Netflix and (just like the anime) the music is great. Here’s the opening title music.
November 26, 2021 at 3:07 pm #1697822This week’s pledge is to finish my Celt characters (should get done tonight while watching the weekender) then move on to my Conquest diorama.
- Will you dive in full force into all those Black Friday “deals” and buy all the stuff you know you’ll never build and paint? – I’ll browse, but I tend to be good at resisting impulse buying.
- Have you actually looked at specific things you already want to go down in price and then throw in a bunch of stuff more because “it’s a sale!”? – Nope.
- Or will you just sit and watch, knowing that your hard earned money is still with you and will be spend shortly after Christmas? – More likely.
November 26, 2021 at 4:57 pm #1697842@sundancer that’s the only reason I keep saving money … well that and the need to buy a house, which I simply can’t afford to do without a buffer. Heck, I can pretty much guarantee that I will use my entire buffer just to buy do some basic stuff to whatever house I end up buying. And that’s before I can even think about fun things like think about ‘the environment’ .
The interest isn’t the worst part. It’s mister Taxman insisting I can do 4% with my money and thus charges me as if I did (I’m way past the tax-free limit for my savings accounts).
So effectively I get punished for trying to build up a buffer just to buy a flockin’ house. The only ‘good’ thing is that I am looking for a house sized man cave so I don’t have to worry about other people . 😀

November 28, 2021 at 8:51 am #1698294Happy Sunday, we have snow here.
Well I didn’t get to play that board game last night thanks to the weather. So instead of using the time to paint miniatures I play a video game.
Later I’m going to dig out my Lord of the Rings cards and play a few practice games to get reacquainted, ready for Free’s post on Monday.
Here’s her article from the other day – https://www.beastsofwar.com/fantasy-flight-games/frees-solo-adventures-lotr-lcg-middleearthmonday/November 28, 2021 at 9:33 am #1698309Did they do a solo thing for the Star Wars LCG? I bought a ton of that way back only to have played it once :S
Happy Sunday, my belly is stuffed with fresh bread, bacon and scrambled eggs… I might need a nap now

Not sure, I’ve only played LoTR. I also bought quite a few cards that I haven’t even opened ?
