@sundancer nah … making a project would scare the OTTer hamsters … better to avoid it.
Besides I’m working on a personal project and I want to minimize distractions with new shiny. :p

I can’t tell anything, because it wouldn’t be a secret any more … and it kind of relies on a few experiments succeeding.
(and I’m currently waiting on supplies for those experiments)

The only downside is that my hobby time is practically zero and I’ve got not enough vacation days left to increase that.
We’re also doing some major upgrades at work that need all hands on deck, so I doubt I could get a day off even if I could.

    (yay … I did a thing … 😀 )

I’ve family staying over for Xmas and while we had to wait for them to get the all-clear “test-to-release” results (it took until Day 10 for their “five-day-test” results to come back clear) didn’t really get much hobby done – though lots of mince pies were consumed and lots of Uno Flip were played.

Just two days of freedom and we were back in lockdown (son-in-law Andrea and I both testing positive last Thursday). So we gave up doing “family things” and each got on with their own stuff. So I had a couple of days to myself and decided to get my old FDM printer up and running; it’s not seen much love since I got my AnyCubic Photon (resin) printer nearly two years ago. A new motherboard and an afternoon of poking wires, then the following morning of messing about with settings and it was finally up and running!

Given we’ve a 9-year-old who loves Star Wars also staying, of course the first thing I decided to print on it was a multi-part Tie Fighter. It made me think of you, @sundancer and your love of Star Wars Legion. Come to think of it, it’s about the right scale…..

Just another wing to go (currently printing) then it’s operation “clean up the zits and strings” – though already I’m quite excited about how it’s coming together.

I reckon it’ll look great when painted, and it sturdy enough to withstand some rough handling from a small boy who is desperate to run around with it shouting “pew pew!”. He’ll have to get in line, though 😉

    Here’s your music.

The 3D printed TIE fighters in all their variants are really loved in the SW:L community… (so is the Revell Snowspeeder… which is 1:1 the same size as the official FFG/AMG piece but only cost ~10€)

Hope your positive tests will only mean some isolation for you and that C19 doesn’t really get you.. Stay safe, get well soon.

@blinky465  did you put in the special function of being able to press a button on it that exploded the wings? As is I think I might bother you again for 3D print work for anothe project. I wrote this in full view of everyone as to make people wonder and fear… notably @sundancer heh heh heh

Seriously though I’ll hit you up later with my idea

@limburger He’ll move and not tell them especially. How else is Tim going to build his @avernos sized collection of minis and all the other games he’s yet to play? I’ll be sure to send him off into ork silliness wit more stuff later next year. As is the Giftmas episode is going to drop with all sorts of surprises.

By the by don’t be afraid Sundancer, I’ve already  made plans for @brennon next year. I very much remember his first episode where he butchered my alias with John on the review of “What Are You Painting Now?”

I’ll say that @johnlyons should do a 3Up painting episode with dazzle pattern after it… it’d be FABULOUS!!! (no sparkles necessary). It’ll be awesome for people to watch once their sides stop hurting from laughter.

    Now, music

    And for Blinky465

You know that point in films like A Nightmare on Elm Street (my horror movie reference points are pretty weak, I’ll admit) where the teenage kids hear a creepy noise and instead of putting on the lights and running away, they creep ever forward in the dark, seemingly overwhelmed by curiousity, even at the cost of personal safety?

I’ve never understood it – why aren’t they running away, screaming? Why such determination to find out more, even if they’re almost certain they’ll soon wish they hadn’t?

I think I get it now. So, go on, @horati0nosebl0wer let’s hear your plans 😉

(I’m only 00:25 in, but it sounds like some great music btw – eight hours you say? That’s my next painting session sorted!)

Thursday! I did the last pre-Christmas shopping… fridge is filled… CLOSE THE HATCHES!

@horati0nosebl0wer  is slowly becoming some sort of modern version of Christmas Ghosts/Gods from the olden days (before the dude that got nailed to the cross made his way here) He can be kind… or eat you alive XD

I just realized… tomorrow is Friday *and* the 24th… as we weird and wacky Germans celebrate Christmas primarily on the 24th I will most likely not be making a new thread. At least not before the 25th or 26th.

So either you lot enjoy a bit of time off or someone else needs to fire up a new thread tomorrow 😉

Right, Giftmas godhood achieved, so sayeth Sundancer! @warzan Do I get XP or a fancy title for that?

@horati0nosebl0wer I am already planning my new house based on my collecting/hobby needs … My collection is not Avernos sized, but I suspect it is bigger than I’m willing to admit 😀 as there are several armies hiding in my pile of opportunity.

The only reason I haven’t gotten one is that the ones that are ‘affordable’ also tend to be either smaller than my current appartment or in the ‘better rebuild it from scratch’ variety …

    //
    Tiny success achieved.
NFC reader/writer for my pc is up and running … I didn’t need a driver. Now all I need is code to make it work for my own idea.
I did discover that it is infinitely more sensitive compared to the one in my android phone.
The hardware solution detects nfc tags at +/- 5 cm distance, wheras my phone only sees them at 5 mm distance (if I’m lucky).
As such I think that going pc-based for now is the best way forward. Am going to solve the android option eventually, because I want it to work. OTOH … I probably should establish the core concepts of my app before diving further into the hardware side of things. Need to investigate QR code printing at tiny sizes as an alternative.
Anyways … I think I’ve got enough ideas/concepts to start a project for this thing that I’m building inside my brain.
It is kind of hobby related and might help me re-focus my hobby energy. I’m excited to start writing code for hobby purposes again … and that’s after over a decade of not writing anything (for fun).

I’ve been doing this too. I’ve a hardware decoder module (that works either over serial for connecting to a microcontroller or to USB for PC use) that can decode a full QR code at about 7mm square. If you stick with micro QR your can probably go as small as 5mm square (at about 10cm reading distance).
