@sundancer – I think it’s the immediacy of Discord that puts me off; I like visiting a forum in my own time, reading through to catch up, leaving a post then getting on with the rest of my life. When I get some downtime, I’ll check in and see what other people have to say.
Discord (and similar almost-real-time-chat) seems like such a time drain to me – everything is *so* immediate; you have to give it your full attention all the time – leave a post or a question and it’s drowned out within minutes and everyone has moved on to something else.
@limburger – I think the word blog came from contracting “web logs” (though I may have just made that up).
December 19, 2020 at 7:06 pm #1590783Very much possible… like IRC back in the day it’s only really fun if you can spend time dedicated to it. “Reading up” is barely possible…
December 19, 2020 at 7:27 pm #1590784@blinky465 I googled it ages back; you are indeed correct about web logs.
December 19, 2020 at 8:22 pm #1590785@mage it’s good to see you are still alive and kicking 😀
@blinky465 discord is nice to say ‘hello’ and talk about all sorts of nonsense I don’t mind forgetting about. I usually check in to say ‘hi’ in the morning and in the evening. I don’t even attempt to read or understand what was written in the channel before my arrival. I suppose that is the trick with these chat-like things. Heck, I doubt you try to follow all conversations in a pub, right ?
That is … I assume you don’t do that, but I’ve never been to one so not sure if that is how it is.Anyways … ’tis the season for kickstarters to arrive it seems, because I also got notified that my Early war Germans & Dutch from May’40 got shipped. With local posties getting flooded with packages (both the standard Christmas stuff and the additional load thanks to The Event) I don’t know when it will arrive.
Mel’s Terrain book is also on its way as is the artbook from the artist who also did the art that inspired ‘Tales from the Loop’.
I’ve also got a few additional add-ons for my Soviets incoming from the OTT Store. 😀
I may have missed some, but that’s because most tracking mails don’t reveal the actual origin or the package contents … I guess I will know what’s what when it arrives.December 19, 2020 at 9:40 pm #1590790Loving those Highland Colonels, @scribbs !
I actually have to have Discord on mute for pretty much everything; getting bombarded with notifications kind of infuriates me, and I am technically one of these ‘youths’… I never understood the desire to know everything immediately, but paradoxically seem to know nothing because of it. I mean what happened to reading a paper for the news? Or getting it at 9 o’clock every evening on the TV? I’m almost 30…and I’m already ‘out of touch’…
December 19, 2020 at 10:49 pm #1590798@limburger thanks dude, appreciate. Kicking mainly
December 20, 2020 at 6:05 pm #1590939My pledge is to paint up one of my one-off models, probably a cyber-fairy.
- Are your devices up to date? (Software patches and updates) – Most are. I don’t let my motherboard update after the last time it broke my PC.
- Do you have a working backup? – I don’t have anything I’d be that concerned about loosing. My last backup was about 2010. They were all on to DVD’s. My latest PC doesn’t even have an option to install a DVD drive.
- When did you last check your backups? – 2011?
December 21, 2020 at 11:53 am #1591089I think I got my groove (back), ’cause I did another assembly and update on my project.
And because I noticed that updating my own project helped me do this more consistently I’ve made it public too :Yay for me … at this pace I can get the contents of the box assembled before the Christmas.
I do need to get myself a better header image for my project though, but it is a start. The project system is soo slow when it needs to save stuff it makes fixing minor issues a bit of a bore. Looking forward to more assembly tonight 😀
Now I just have to find a way to prime and paint the stuff that I have assembled.
December 21, 2020 at 8:53 pm #1591174December 24, 2020 at 7:08 pm #1592110Blue Belle is painted. I’ll transfer her to a clear base once her sister Yellow Belle is done. Project entry here: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1467945/#snav
December 24, 2020 at 9:30 pm #1592121@sundancer it is the 24 … where is it ?
Ve demand ze answers ! 😉I got almost all of the plastic done. Only 4 guns and a bit of infantry left.
Once that’s done I’ll update the project as well.December 24, 2020 at 11:39 pm #1592133December 29, 2020 at 9:26 pm #1593058I got another cyber fairy finished. This completes the set of three. https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1467945/#snav
December 30, 2020 at 11:33 am #1593231Nice work @danlee
I’m still doing pretty much nothing but playing the Outer Worlds video game…. it’s relaxing. Minis and models are postponed until 2021… I think.
I survived the last grocery shopping of 2020 yesterday and now am awaiting the big bang at the end of the
worldyear.Hope you all are fine. Remain indoors. Stay safe.
December 30, 2020 at 3:12 pm #1593244@sundancer Thanks. I didn’t have the time to get stuck into Outer Worlds but I watched a youtube playthrough while painting and thought the game looked very good. The interactions with the ship crew, and the computer personality in particular, were well done.
