Anyone got a handy guide for Ork clans and their colours (in 40k) ?

Any colours  that work well with green skin ?

Google helped a bit already 🙂

I wonder if the Freebooterz are still part of the official codex, ‘cuz I kind of like them.

Dungeon Saga Orcs from Mantic, using Army Painter method mostly. They’ve gone through the dip, now just need a little bit of colour and varnish. I’ll have to pick up some more varnish after work tonight.

Aside from bases and varnish my Bayourks are finished. These chaps are from the ‘Battle for Troll Bridge’ starter set.

Mad Eye Muldoon, a special character and Warband Leader:

    A Specialist Troop, a ‘Brewboy’:

And finally the three Boglins round out the warband:

@limburger start with your darkest green for your shadow and work your wau up from their into lighter shade midtone. From their I worked in a little yellow for highlighting and the final highlights with a warm white/bone color.

As far as others, red as a contrast always works.

With all this work and orky fun I might so some more.

I have a feeling that my Bolt-Action DAK and my Ork Killteam will look similar 😉

My plan would be to follow the Army Painter school of painting using Army green as a primer/base coat.

Need to get my Orks first though and according to my intel I can expect them this weekend.

Depending on time available I might practice on a few zombie orks too.

I gots dem … time to go *waaaaggh*

Had hoped to get a few squads of troops done too but time got away from me so will get those done in due course – I don’t want to ruh just to hit an arbitrary deadline…

A few pics of the Ork Warboss for Killteam …

This is what he is supposed to look like once completed (yep … that squig is part of the sprue) :

    DSC_0061

The manual also has his stats for use in 40k!
So even if you don’t play killteam this is not a bad way to add a leader to your faction.
It kind of sucks that factions like the Eldar don’t get an official commander, but  the stats for them are listed in the commander expansion book. So you’re only missing out on a few tokens.

The sprue is the usual GW standard for a single pose miniature :

Cards in the box included give tactics for Warboss, painboy and mek as well as the upgrade path and associated points cost for this warboss in Killteam.

@limburger the figure looks cool with the squig but the pose is pretty boring. GW did the least they could to play with the pose of the ork warboss from Assault on Black Rock. They changed very little overall. Bah! Nuts to that noise. If the stats for the weapons were different I’d offer the other metal warboss that I was going to do as a display piece. Will you be kitbashing the boss pole instead of that boring one?

That model originally appeared in an old starter set in the previous edition with Space  Wolves and Orks. He was only available in that set, which later went out of print. Then, he was released along with a set of of Ork Nobz for general release and is still available in that set on the GW site. Being able to buy him separately now and have him for two game systems is great.

Also, from what I hear online, with the coloured plastics in some minis (not all) compared to the stnadard grey there is slight shrinkage, ever so slight, which stops them going together ‘as-seamlessly’ in some areas.

Right now I am working on some Goblin town Goblins and Mordor Orcs 🙂

@horati0nosebl0wer : hmmm that’s an option … the problem is that it is a single pose miniature, so I’m not sure how much I can change without making it look worse.

The squig kind of screams ‘attack dog’ so maybe there’s something to be done with that.

Then again … ‘boring’ might be just the stuff I need to get it done 😉

How about assemble it as is, paint it up, and then buy a second one to convert!

I think I’ve got plenty of ork-related stuff to build & plunder as is … not buying a second model of the same type, unless it is seriously cool.

Are Freebooterz an official ‘clan’ now ? Or is that something that always was ?

    New Chapter improved incoming :

    Orktober Never Ends

And if anyone needs a Christmas wishlist (vault with gold to fund this list not included) :

Christmas Preview: Bundles, Battleforces and Boxed Games…

Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress … a new quest game focussing on 40k.

update … I saw the prices for the new Ork vehicles : 35 Euro (official)

There are 4 of them that aren’t in the Speedfreakz set.

    Speedfreakz has 2 of them + 6 warbikes, which makes it 2 x 35 + 2 x 33 = 70 + 66 = 136 Euro if you were to buy all of that separate.
So definitely a good deal (and probably still a good profit margin for GW) if you want to start

Orkz are also getting an easy-build kit for their boyz.
