I have to do a few chores this morning and they are almost all done. Doing this is great fun. I forgot just how much, but maybe it has been too long. I am more than happy for anyone else to keep doing this, but maybe I should do ‘something’ else where it is safer or that won’t cause problem for BoW/OTT. Tell me what you think.
That is another thing…do my comments and posts exist? I write answers that often contain other questions, but they never seem to get a reply. I also loved the comments on my pictures!
I am willing to try and make this as massive as it used to be, but I need help.
July 29, 2019 at 10:54 am #1419234@woldenspoons makes sense, I was able to resist Vanguard on KS, but I sort of regret it as there are so many of the minis I want now! They are cool looking figures, have you anything aquatic in mind for the bases? Wargames Atlantic are bringing out sci-fi soldiers in a Napoleonic Style some time in the future – they are being worked on at least. I think they are going to be called “Les Grognards”!
@unclejimmy I’ll be adding more Pak 40s for sure. Woodland Scenics and 4Ground do “pull apart vegetation stuff” that might work for a net that has been upgraded with some bush.
July 29, 2019 at 11:08 am #1419247These are the only artwork I can find for “Les Grognards”… I’m sure I have seen more!
The Viking looking dude on the left of the bottom pic is meant to be something else.
July 29, 2019 at 11:09 am #1419248Unless you fancy a career down by the canal. Do you have nice legs?
Only if you define hairy == nice
I LOVE the thing you stand your minis in when you paint them. Did you make it? That is a really fantastic idea. 100pts.
Thank you. Yes, and it was a quick build from srap wood
What is the ‘lizard’ guy? I didn’t know they made a range of official David Icke miniatures. The arm with the weapon is cool too.
It’s Bossk. A bounty hunter for Star Wars: Legion https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/6/7/trandoshan-terror/
July 29, 2019 at 12:14 pm #1419294@robert wow those are nice minis. Not a fan of the optional heads but that’s an easy fix. Maybe Polish Vistula Legion Heads? Or Austrian Grenadier Heads or the Old Austrian Helmet would all look cool.
Time to do some catching up.
“better get another ‘avatar’ picture before they come for you!”
My Avatar is of the Camel Corps at Abu Klea in 1885 and no one could ever have an issue with it. The British were there to end Slavery (They ended it a few years earlier and the Mahdi reinstated it) and fight Jihadist’s so if anyone has any issues I’m very happy to explain the situation to them. They didn’t even want to be there they only did what they did because the Egyptians threatened to close the Suez if they didn’t.
Has the guy at the back of the AT-guns got a cricket bat in has hand?
Nope just PSC Casting, not the most brilliant minis but they’re still great.
What is ‘Sharp Practice’?
TooFatLardies Skirmish Black Powder Game. Great game and the BoW/OTT guys have done some Let’s Plays of it a while ago.
@robert very cool Tiny Fighting Dorf’s what’s the company that makes them?
@sundancer really nice work on Sabine she’s definitely an interesting mini with all her Graffiti. The Darksabre will be pretty tricky to do.
July 29, 2019 at 12:56 pm #1419328@elessar2590 There may be other head options in the set, they have only previewed this art so far. I think more sneak peaks will be coming soon. The same company have two 19th Century boxed sets coming out as well, which may well be Austrians plus Dark Age Irish, Persians and Halflings. The Dwarfs are Copplestone Castings. Lovely sculpts and amazingly cast for their size. The range they are part of is based on Middle Earth.
July 29, 2019 at 2:56 pm #1419373@unclejimmy i’m not sure you can thin the contrast paints
July 29, 2019 at 3:38 pm #1419388@unclejimmy – I hope you’re feeling better today. For the record, I think we’ve all had a shitty weekend. 10 hours of sleep. A close friend of mine getting a divorce. Five coworkers got laid off this morning. Depressing returns / reception on Sitrep content on which we worked very hard for no money. I’ve had a minor medical issue since Historicon. And all of this was without the drama this weekend, both public and private. The less said about that, the better.
Thank God it’s Monday. Going to work this morning was a relief.
The one bright spot was the V&V game with @elessar2590 Sunday. 😀
I sent a PM regarding our trade. I’m hoping to simplify the process, because honestly I need a lot less complication and effort in my life right now.
I’m going to be on our Sitrep platforms for a while. I can also be contacted via e-mail.
Have a better one.
July 29, 2019 at 3:58 pm #1419396@tuffyears you can buy the medium to thin them, that is what the ‘Eavy Metal team have been using to turn contrast paints into glazes (if they are to be believed and not just saying that for marketing). Unless you are turning them into glazes, I think thinning contrast defeats the purpose of what they are intended to do.
July 29, 2019 at 4:50 pm #1419412@robert @tuffyears that’s right. Contrast paints are one thick coat for a reason. They are a mix of an ink and a wash. So they filter and shade in one go. They dry however very thick. So not like a standard paint. And they dry and retract to the crevices to cause shading. Thinning with water would alter the manner in which they dry, so that is why you thin with the medium.
I’ve not tried thinning them to achieve the effect of a glaze though. That seems an interesting approach.
Also the primer you use will change things. A smooth surface will mean greater effects of retraction and in effect shading and highlighting. On my terminators I used the vallejo grey primer. It has a rougher finished because it is a true primer with a surface that helps paint adhere. So this breaks up the surface tension and so on drying the highlighting effect was not as strong with the blood angels red contrast.
July 29, 2019 at 8:11 pm #1419464I watched an ‘EM painting use Contrast paints as glazes during Fest. So can confirm.
July 29, 2019 at 9:10 pm #1419481Sabine Wren finished. At least I call her that. Still needs to dry and get a coat of varnish. Here are some pics including mandatory @lloyd bum-view 😉
Next up: Bossk
July 29, 2019 at 9:23 pm #1419482Well, I made it home and it would appear my invisibility cloak is still working. I did some more work on my scatter bits. I added some areas of damage and discolouration which should show through when I ‘chip’ it. However, I am not sure if I should do that. They look pretty battered and other than addin a wash, or two, they might be ready to do. What do you think? Maybe I might try the hairspray on one of them…
Next I have to fill the dumpster!
@robert – I saw a video on YT where the guy was using the ‘pull-apart’ stuff. He even had some stuff you could make trees from. I am quite tempted. The photo-etched nets I was on about have foliage attached. It looks very sturdy too…for handling. I will try and find a link to it. It was on some modelling forum/shop that I like to get a few bits from.
Fuck you! Snails rule. They taste vile, but what do I know? 100pts.
Maybe you are right about the contrast paint. I know zero about them. Until I was here a few weeks ago I had never heard of them.
@sundancer – not me personally, but it takes all sorts to make a world of dirty, park rangers.
I can sort of see what you did to make the stand. I will have to get an expert onto it. I can’t even change a lightbulb. True.
Star Wars? If it anything other than SW or tESB then it doesn’t exist! However, that mini is awesome. Very characterful. I would like to see it when you get finished. Oh, and the legs too. 100 very creepy pts.
@elessar2590 – it looks pretty racist to me! 100pts. The honkies have rifles and the bleck fella has a stick. Good old colonialism. Great picture of the “good old days”. 200pts.
It looks cool. Plenty of Officers carries weird things into battle. I suppose that 4 years getting bummed by the Prefects, and then 2 years bumming 1st years as a Prefect makes you a bit strange. British public schools…best in the world.
I have always found PSC stuff very well cast. However, I have never bought any of their troops. Do you recommend them?
@tuffyears – you must be able to thin them if you can clean them from your brush! If not just try brown, then BB, then some white. Then a wash. That is just me. Dave has a jihad on thin paint. I can sit behind him and he will say (without even looking up from what he is doing), “Don’t forget to thin that paint…” Normally I would just choke-out someone like that, but I doubt I could get my forearm around his massive neck. He uses a firehose as a tie! It’s true. He uses this…
@oriskany – well said that man. 100pts. You got it too then? I meant to ask you about your dad’s railway – is he still messing with it?
I had a few things to do, but spent the afternoon in bed watching Space 1999.
You have a good day too!
@redben – Hello! See this is how to do a flying visit. Polite and informative. I know hee-haw about Wacoshop stuff so your superior knowledge is always welsome. Same with you @doctorether.
I also found this while tidy out some parts from a drawer:
Now I have to do a Zombie game!
This weeks closing time will be a rush. So it is 2112hrs on wednesday…wherever you might be.
July 29, 2019 at 9:25 pm #1419483@sundancer – the sword is outstanding! 200pts. With just a little bit of colour Mr. Icke is looks stunning. Some really nice detail.
July 29, 2019 at 9:26 pm #1419484I’m sure this is what Mollie thinks she looks like!
