1968, Operation “Rolling Thunder”
Dylan and Jim face off in the skies above North Vietnam, where two US Navy F-4 Phantoms tangle with four MiG-17 “Fresco” interceptors of the Vietnamese People’s Air Force. The game is AirWar C21 by Wessex Games.
Will the US Navy strike a blow for freedom?
Or will the Yankee imperialists be taught a lesson in humility?
July 28, 2019 at 11:49 am #1418872July 28, 2019 at 12:33 pm #1418873@unclejimmy thank you. You wanted 3 of what?
Currently waiting for varnish and glue to dry, then I’ll actually have some finished models! After lunch I need to set the airbrush up and start undercoating tanks.
July 28, 2019 at 1:54 pm #1418876July 28, 2019 at 2:58 pm #1418910Greetings everyone –
I’ve been asked to convey a message. @cpauls1 reports he is no longer able to log onto the site. I still see his active account / points, etc., but notice the icon picture has changed. (??) I’m really hoping this is a technical issue. In any event, he’ll be back soon, he just didn’t want anyone to think he was ignoring them.
@unclejimmy – I see your PM, I will send the money shortly. Might not be today as I have a stream to get ready for and don’t even know for sure what system I will be running! 🙁 🙁 🙁
July 28, 2019 at 4:00 pm #1418926Bases, some detailing here and there, and these are coming along nicely. 100% contrast painted. Which in my case means a very limited pallette.
July 28, 2019 at 8:05 pm #1419036Our Sitrep Live Stream kicks off in about an hour, where we’ll be featuring Australian forces, including new units, in an expanded rules set for Valor & Victory set in Vietnam. In this game we’ll be seeing how the corrected helicopter rules work, along with polished anti-aircraft rules, antitank fire rules, new Centurion tanks of the Royal Australian Armoured Regiment, and so on.
The basic scenario:
1969, II Corps Sector, Phuouc Tuy Province, Southeast of Saigon – an Australian UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” on its way back to base camp has been shot down by a National Liberation Front (VC) RPG. The bird has crashed in a former Michelin rubber plantation just a few hundred yards outside the perimeter of 9th Battalion, RAR. There are casualties, but also survivors. Now, a hasty armored force is sortied out of 9/RAR’s base camp to secure the crash site and rescue the casualties before they are overrun by elements of a Viet Cong main force battalion.
The game will be played between myself and @elessar2590 – so we’ll see what happens!
9PM UK Time, 4PM East US time, 6AM Monday AEST
July 28, 2019 at 9:28 pm #1419077Here here @jacook too many people take a single comment way to far. People are allowed their opinion and people are allowed to hate or love that opinion, or even gasp, to not give a bleep. I’m not going to blame a chat, site, group of people, nation, or even the person themselves for a comment, opinion, or belief. Intentional cruelty…and YES there is a difference between an intentional nasty insult and an impolite or impolitic comment…should be met with a simple “Not necessary” or “No need to be a BLEEP” leaving that chat and enjoying the rest of the site.
July 28, 2019 at 9:48 pm #1419079I’m drowning in my own sweat but I used the dry heat of the afternoon and primed some more…. just in case I can’t stand painting Legion anymore
But painting tonight was Sabine Wren. Normally I use movie books for reference but hence she has some iteration within the Rebels TV series I just grabbed my Disney Infinity figurine. And she has so much small details I’ll just wing most of it.
This ends my last day off work and the alarm will go of in approximately 6 hours from now…. so… read you soon!
July 29, 2019 at 6:18 am #1419180@sundancer it looks like Sabine is coming along nicely!
Did they release any of the others yet?
July 29, 2019 at 6:29 am #1419181@woldenspoons other characters from Rebels? No. As far as I know Sabine Wren is currently the only miniature released from an animated series. Everything else is from a movie. (referring to miniatures only, upgrade cards excluded) But I think as Clone Wars is closer to Rebels (in the sense of chronological timeline) there could be more.
July 29, 2019 at 7:58 am #1419182@woldenspoons I recognise the Naiads, are the other “Cthulhu” looking models Mantic as well?
July 29, 2019 at 8:56 am #1419191I’ve had some pretty crazy Hobby.
Of course the Game with Jim @oriskany was awesome and well worth watching later if you missed the Stream.
Got an email from @warzan that I’m not going to talk about but stay tuned because EPIC!!! Things are in the works.
Got a Wash on my Paras now I just have to base them and I’ll have 1000 Points (50) of Flames of War Done just in time for Month One.
Did a bit of a touch up (barely did anything but it counts!) for Lieutenant Presley O’Bannon of the USMC who did quite well for himself against the Barbary Pirates in 1805 giving the Corps both the line “to the Shore’s of Triploi” in it’s song and the USMC Officer’s their Mameluke Sword as an official part of their Dress Uniform. Mini is from Wargames Illustrated.
Then sat down and edited a 45 Minute Video for my new Channel (Grizzly Cave on Youtube) which is me randomly flipping through an Old Napoleonic Wargame book just rambling about all sorts of thing Napoleonic. Also had a video get 10 Views for the first time which is exciting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGeP-yTt0ns&t=2s A video about the Rhodesian Fireforce Rapid Response Tactics for the 1965-79 Bush War if you want to check it out. Stay tuned for the Rambling Video later tonight.
July 29, 2019 at 10:09 am #1419218@elessar2590 that Napoleonic figure looks great. Makes me want to do an Imperial Guard army in that style. Hmm quite surprised I haven’t seen more like that to be fair..
@sundancer yes sorry I did mean rebels. Darth Vader doesn’t count. True fact, rebels may well be my favourite thing in the star wars universe. Oh and I speak Chopper.
@robert They are the Thuul side of the Trident Realms from Mantic and come as resin kits in the Trident Realms Warband for Vanguard.
July 29, 2019 at 10:35 am #1419228I didn’t get a chance to do anything yesterday, but I sent you a post-card from my day out.
It reads: “Dear All, I am stuck here having things suck into my bottom! Wish you were here.”
@tuffyears – quite a nice mini considering where it comes from. 50pts. I always like the Seer Council idea for Eldar forces. Hard as nails too. My favourite ‘anti’ Seer Council tactic it to drive a Templar’s Land Raider into them…blow the assault charges on the front and them unload a squad right on top of them! Sorted. However, it is not a fool-proof plan.
Once, a long time ago, when I still had the metal version of the Carnifex (before there was a plastic version) I was attacked by three Warlocks and a squad of HB. Oh, they killed it, but not before if spayed them with it’s acidic blood. When the fumes and screaming cleared there was one HB left! That was back when the codex gave you some outstanding options to play with.
If you don’t mind a tiny bit of criticism…thin your paint a bit more.
@sundancer – ah, the acidic tang of reality. It blows. However, you have to pay for the toy soldiers some how! 50pts. Unless you fancy a career down by the canal. Do you have nice legs?
I LOVE the thing you stand your minis in when you paint them. Did you make it? That is a really fantastic idea. 100pts. What is the ‘lizard’ guy? I didn’t know they made a range of official David Icke miniatures. The arm with the weapon is cool too.
@robert – I wouldn’t worry about it…they keep changing it all the time. I remember when it was supposed to be a ‘dark’ future, but maybe my advanced years have clouded my memories! The background used to be inspiring. I have lost count of all the time I would read 3-4 lines in WD and the off to the shop to by £100 worth of minis to begin some new project.
Dave still gets WD and now-and-again I flick through one while in the “reading room”. Well, it is that or copies of “Men & Muscles” or whatever it is he reads in the bath. There is nothing to read anymore. It has been like that for beards. The price is beyond theft unless you subscribe.
Sorry, three Pak 40’s. The T-34’s are not very keen on them. Those two of yours are amazing. I might have added a net to one of them…just for the look. I forget the name of the company, but they make PE cammo nets and I fancy giving them a try. However, when I do no taking the piss! 50pts.
The bushes look great!
@oriskany – not a problem, I will pack them and get them posted in the morning. I am very happy with out transaction. IED markers…woo-hoo!
It has been raining here since yesterday morning. If it keeps up I might have to start on the Ark. Luckly we live at the top of a hill! I will have to read what I missed out on. Not such a good day for me yesterday. Much better today.
@woldenspoons – the Cthulhu guys at the front are awesome. What are they? I love all things Cthulhu. 100pts.
@gladesrunner – I try and keep my real hatred for the far-right forum, but that is on tuesday. If anyone is not intelligent enough to realise that I just like to poke the wasps nest then they should try another thread.
I did enjoy the fake indignation. 100pts.
