    Hi All

I’m playing catchup here and understand I’m pretty late in posting this. (I see @brennon and @unclejimmy have been talking and that appreciated)

I’ve been on nearly 100hr weeks these last two weeks as there is a lot going on and yes I’m a bit tired and run down so keeping up with the forums hasn’t been somthing I’ve been able to squeeze in.

Having looked over the title of the thread originally and the ensuing dialogue I appreciate the change of title and would ask we just try to steer clear of being deliberately divisive.

We are a broad church here and pretty much the only thing we share in common is a love of gaming.

So it’s really easy to cause splits and arguments when we stray from that and it is a bit of a hair trigger.

Noone on here should EVER be told they dont belong. Sharing a love of gaming is all the card you need to carry to enjoy a bit of escapism here on gaming, there is a whole wide world where we can argue about the other stuff that effects us 🙂

If someone said No Vets I would be just as annoyed, or No Grognards or No Gays or No Blacks or No Goths or No Disabled or No Jews or No Irish none of it is acceptable and none of it relates to gaming. So we dont need it. Cutting off folk (or giving the impression of even by accident) doesn’t help a small tight nit community stay healthy.

I appreciate there is just a ton of blurry lines in all of this and I rely on you guys as a community to keep the peace. Because arguments, bitching and rage quits really just brings the tone of the fun down and doesn’t do any of us any good when we are all just looking for a little bit of escapism from ‘real life’ (which no doubt is both hard and confusing these days)

Now I try to be consistent in my approach to these things over the years, and no doubt some of you will think I’m being ‘mealy mouthed’ but let me try to unpack my position on this…

I’m a tired Dad of 4 who has spent the last 10 years building this community with others and we earn minimum wage, I’m a live and let live kind of guy who doesn’t have massively strong opinions on politics and stuff like that. I like people for who they are and dont really care about their colour or their creed or what they have between their legs. I like gaming and I like to learn stuff from folk. I tend not to knee jerk to stuff because I’m never in any doubt that I may be the least informed in the room so I try to understand people and situations before wading in. I appreciate loyalty and try to give it whenever I can. I try to be consistent but I’m also very open to change my mind as I learn more. Did I mention I’m tired?

I have a young family who will grow up to become people with their own identities I’d like to think in gaming they can be accepted as One of Us.

So yeah, I appreciate us keeping civil and trying to focus where we can on what unites us, but also understands there are crossovers into real life and we give a platform for those discussions too, but let’s try to be welcoming to one another day to day.

Having the community break into factions bitching about each other behind each others backs is pretty depressing. You may think its fresh or it shakes things up, you may even think I deserve having to deal with it.

Perhaps take a walk in my shoes first before deciding that.

    Thanks all and peace.

Sprayed the Little Mermaids in gray seer. That stuff really stinks. Looking forward to dolloping contrast paint on them. Probably tomorrow.

And did somebody say Katy Perry?

@woldenspoons I am happy that contrast paints are thing because to me as lazy painter those are blessing. Then again I have used least 60€ to them so far.

@woldenspoons is it a nice stink though.  I miss the smell of Devlan mud 🙂

@mecha82 I’ve only used Skeleton Horde so far and like the results I have got.  I used it over Vallejo Grey Polyurethane Primer and worked well.  Must try it over white sometime.  I useful tool for the box.

I made sure I bought a pot of grey seer too so I can use contrast on figures I’ve already undercoated. My local store is still struggling to keep in the whites, blacks and weirdly purples.

Questions soon @unclejimmy. I always get there in the end.

@robert I have been using those to some miniatures that I have painted and I am also happy with results.

@woldenspoons All LGSs seem to have that problem and those in here are no different. GW just didn’t seem to make enough of those.

@woldenspoons is it wrong to say I would be sniffing it every night?

Rounds complete on the orc/raptor cavalry. I got them sprayed with a matte sealer, and now that I look at them, I don’t think they merit a paint upgrade just yet. A dozen of the orc cavalry are destined for glory at my LGS, when the battle boards are finished.

I got Vi to take pics with her tablet. Works so much better than our old camera.

@robert Thanks for the nod of approval. Grenadier used to make the best mini’s around, and some were big enough that you can still use them in a 28mm heroic setting.

    Some pics from the yard:

This is my summer work station… or the garage. Very humid, so a good day for wet blending!

This is my old paint bag! If I put my coffee cup out Vi will put a flower in it.

Back, back yard. The pond is low this year, in part due to the drought, but also because some brain dead shit pump built her house along the creek that runs through the back of our place, and didn’t build up the site. Then she put in a basement and complained to the municipality for years that it was leaking. They trenched out the creek, dropped the ground level water by three feet, and destroyed several hundred trout ponds. She got death threats and moved to Ontario.

@robert I have to agree about the ghosts. The one on the right may be too dark. A white glaze, maybe?

Great job on the crates! Looks like you’ll get those done this weekend. How far along are you on the guns

@elessar2590 Painting cam on 15mm scares the f*ck out of me. I have enough trouble at 28mm. As I’ve mentioned before, you highlight a model to bring out the detail, and then put on a camouflage pattern to obscure it; it’s like sucking and blowing at the same time. I’ve dropped in on your project as well; great work so far! Please post pics when you’re done – I need the help.

Donga: here we call them ATCO’s, and there are quite a few people around here who buy land, set up an ATCO trailer, and save money to build their house… smart. I’ve seen people do the same with sea cans or train cabooses. They’re cheap as chips now that cabooses are no longer used on trains.

I used to think a gloss finish brought out the colours on models, but clearly I was mistaken. The orc cavalry looks much better with a matte finish. You’re right: it was a thing back in the day to coat with gobs of glossy crap.

@oriskany Right on the first guess… a water elemental. I won’t have time to light it up before the game at my LGS, but will tinker with it afterward.

Heavy infantry? No, this was the heavy infantry, the marsh trolls:

I gave Naval Command a passing glance in your initial battle report, but may go back into it for a closer look. Thanks for posting that.

@warzan I think we’ll have to agree to disagree. Any ‘community’ is composed of disparate groups of people with different interests who tend to gather with like-minded individuals. Take Winnipeg, for instance. Within it you have many different ethnic, cultural, religious, and political groups, and obviously a certain amount of cross pollination within these groups. We all interact in a variety of different circles.

I hang out with ex-military hobbyists, along with the military and ex-military people I work with. We have our own haunts within the city. Would I go into a gay bar for a beer? Unlikely… not because I have anything against them. It’s just not my crowd.

BoW is a large community with many different sub-groups and interests, but this thread, rejuvenated by @unclejimmy , is the only place where I feel I’m among my ‘tribe’, and can bitch about the things that bother me while sharing hobby stuff, and giving and receiving encouragement to ‘get ‘er done’. People don’t need to come crashing through the front door, swinging their dick (as tiny as it might be) and calling us racists and misogynists – we’re not. We’re also not saying “Fit in or fu** off.” Just show a little respect.

If they don’t like this community they don’t have to drink the Kool-Aid. There are plenty of other threads they can become involved in.

    Kumbaya.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I ‘m late for my Ethiopian Coptic Christian service.

    @cpauls1

Sorry to hear that, we dont have to agree to disagree.

You can kindly take it else where as it’s not welcome here.

It’s a big world and I’m sure you can find somewhere else you feel you can fit in.

I have no doubt some others will take some offence at this, and while that’s unfortunate and not what I had wanted, feel free to move on as well if you feel its necessary.
