See people keep saying that the animations are “free advertising” but are they? In reality the only people likely to be watching them are already fans of GW

You would be surprised how many people that watch those aren’t fans already plus some become familiar with it trough some Youtuber reacting to those fan animations which adds to that those being free advertisement. Free advertisement that’s better made than official GW animations if I may add and are sure to get attention and make people interested.

The thing is GW have just employed some of the best EX freelance graphics producer’s out their so their video will improve ten fold now. we have seen their product video’s get way better already.

Yeah, GW will get plenty of free advertising thanks to putting samplers of their cartoons on Youtube. I see lots of claims that the cartoons and other Youtube stuff turned loads and loads of people onto them, which doesn’t sound right. This is a company that, despite ups and downs, has been riding high for the last 30 years, but fan made animations which have only recently come into existence are responsible for their success? I imagine they would consider that news to them.

The Astartes animation didn’t attract attention because it was GW
It attracted attention because it was just one guy doing  everything and he launched it into a sufficiently small pond so the impact was huge.
Had he created a generic armoured soldier … he wouldn’t have been a blip on the radar.

There are plenty of artists out there that can do better than most GW fan animations … we just don’t notice them because they’re not in our bubble, unless they do something related to GW or Starwars or any other franchise.

@zorg I’m saying he didn’t need GW to show his skills …

It’s a bit like those women on Twitch showing of their goodies … they look ‘good’ because anyone doing that for real is on the dedicated channels and the Twitch tarts wouldn’t get a single view if they tried to do their thing there.

Likewise the people creating art for GW (or any other IP)  only ever look good because their nearest competitor is a kid who barely knows how to draw. The moment you start to compare their work with equally talented people (like students from an art school for animation … ) they would be merely ‘average’. That doesn’t make them bad. It just makes them less impressive …
