@damon – thanks very much. Like I say in the announcement, I’m definitely still running our weekend web games, at least as long as people remain interested. Which reminds me, I have your request for a time slot on Sunday afternoon, any preference on game and faction? If not, I humbly propose (propose only) some 1956 Arab-Israeli Wars, to dovetail into some upcoming Sitrep content. 😀 Just let me know if you’d like to try that or Darkstar (and if so, which faction / ships).
@elessar2590 – thanks very much for the kind words, especially about the Sitrep! We’re definitely trying to expand the content and how often it comes out. And thanks for swinging by last week’s web wargame, despite the tough time of day for you. We were truly global on that one (Australia, Canada, Florida, Puerto Rico). 😀
@timchubb – thanks very much, sir. And thanks for all you do behind the scene with OTT/BoW and tech support / web functionality.
January 24, 2019 at 8:21 pm #1336718Thanks for all your interesting and very enjoyable articles, I wish all the best for with sitrep and your future endeavours
January 24, 2019 at 8:25 pm #1336731@sundancer – thanks, man. No worries. 😀
@commodorerob – thanks very much. Yeah, I’ll still be around, especially if Sitrep gets the support we’re hoping for. Best of luck with the work as Curator. 😀
@bobcockayne – thanks so much, sir, both for the kind words and also the persistent support over the years. Yeah, I’m sticking around the site as a member, as far as content production goes it will be around the Sitrep (hopefully featured heavily on OTT/BoW) and any guest projects they might have for me later in the future.
January 24, 2019 at 8:35 pm #1336733@noyjatat – thanks man, those boot camps were indeed a lot of fun.
@piers – Absolutely, sir. Battlegroup is still the best WW2 miniatures game out there (ah, I’m “free” to say that again), at least among any I’ve tried. It would take a pretty badass game to beat it. Not sure if there will be another Historical Editor, I think part of my decision was based on the role never really being well-defined. Best of luck to whoever tries it (oh yes, they would need it). 😀
I’m looking forward to more news on NORTHAG – we’d have to feature it in a future episode of the Sitrep!
@avernos – thanks very much, sir. You’re a scholar and a gentleman. Best of luck keeping those guys on track historically. 😀 😀 😀 I earnestly look forward to the Rorke’s Drift battles!
January 24, 2019 at 8:57 pm #1336810Gasp! I get my boyfriend back! I, and I know many others, enjoyed reading your articles but they were a ton of work. I hope this means you’ll get more time to actually enjoy working again.
January 24, 2019 at 11:00 pm #1336864@firebuck – thanks. Yeah, I’ll be around, especially with Darkstar, Sitrep, and ongoing web wargames we run with the community each weekend.
@mage – no worries. It’s just the right call to ensure this all stays fun. 😀
@gremlin – for years now you’ve been almost always the first person to drop a comment on one of my articles. I have totally noticed and appreciate it 100%. Also your support of the Darkstar Project remains an appreciated source of encouragement. Thanks once again so much. If you ever want to give Darkstar a try online, give me a ping either via PM or at [email protected].
January 24, 2019 at 11:07 pm #1336879I greatly appreciate the content, effort and continual stream of comments that you have fed in while you were Historical Editor. You also have to accept some guilt for piquing my interest in historical gaming.
You reached 100 articles a little while ago and to (re)draw on the cricket analogy, soundly deserved your standing ovation for the century. I’m not sure what your article score is now however I wonder whether this is just the end of the first days play, and you’ll be back to continue to add to your score? Or have you fully returned to the pavilion, removed your pads, put your bat back in its bag, never to add to the score?
Hmmm, probably went a bit heavy on the cricket analogy there…. Enjoy your new found free time and thanks for the excellent input!
January 24, 2019 at 11:36 pm #1336880Jim, it’s been a pure pleasure to read your articles and to remind me that even though I think I might know a bit about a tiny bit of history, there is so much more to discover. Thank you for your comradeship and I look forward many more weekend gaming sessions. I’ll also have to start downloading the sitrep to get my @oriskany fix.
All the very best for your future endeavours,
Andrew
January 25, 2019 at 1:54 am #1336912it’s been a pleasure. such a wealth of knowledge and unselfish in helping others in the community. as a follower of SITREP, will be glad to know james is still around. good men are hard to find, good friends even more so.
January 25, 2019 at 3:46 am #1336924@orlandothetechnicolour – No worries at all, it was by honor and pleasure to do it.
@somegeezer – thanks very much, and I’ll definitely be staggering around on the site. D:
@zorg – You’ve always been one of my biggest and most steadfast supporters, itr most certainly has not gone unnoticed. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the new content with the Sitrep as well.
January 25, 2019 at 3:55 am #1336925@a27cromwell – Glad you enjoyed the articles or at least found them interesting. 😀 Hey, there’s nothing wrong with hover StuGs and “panzerdinosaurs.” 😀 (totally a real thing, didn’t you know?)
@itchardpirate – Indeed, just another angle, sir. Well, and leaving the pre-1945 history members of the staff and other members of the community.
@144artist – thanks so much. Actually I think a new Sitrep podcast is going up Friday January 25. So I hope you’ll check it out, perhaps our droning will keep you calm and relaxed while knocking out some hobby over the weekend! 😀
January 25, 2019 at 3:58 am #1336926Massive thanks for all the time and hard work that you put into the articles, game reps, bootcamps and the innumerate responses and help you’ve given in the forums. I know I wouldn’t have got the inspiration to try to delve into the records to find out more about my family’s historys in battle if it was for you and the historical community on here. It’s great to see you’ll still be making content for us all to enjoy, and all the very best with wherever it takes you.
January 25, 2019 at 10:20 am #1336998Thanks @oriskany its easier having a convention on things when one of us knows what we’re talking about. I just remember snippets of the things and have to dig the rest from the tinternet like the article I sent to the weekender post for Lloyd about Roman concrete.
January 25, 2019 at 11:27 am #1337030Sorry to see you go. I’ve really enjoyed your dedication to historical gaming.
Who’s going to keep that part of BoW going now?
January 25, 2019 at 11:47 am #1337079Although I’ve not been a historical gamer at all during my time with Beasts of War Ive always found your work fascinating, the stuff on the pacific in particular caught my eye as my Grandfather was involved (also involved at Tobruk), wishing you the very best and will continue to enjoy having you around, you’re an incredible part of our community.
